On Tuesday I finally decided that the laptop I was given by my new employer just wasn't cutting it. 250 GB SSD is not big enough to hold all the virtual machines I need and shared video ram wasn't working for my VPN sessions with my customers unless I moved the slider all the way over to performance which really screws up the video quality.

So I noticed an HP Envy at Best Buy with a 4 GB GTX 950 video card, 16 GB of RAM and a 2 TB HDD. It also had a touch screen. All for $1429 Canadian. My company agreed to pay for it so off I went to pick one up.

Got it home last night and spent the evening and the better part of tonight setting it up and copying files to it. Then I notice that the metal case around the screen looked kind of warped. On further inspection the screen itself was coming away from the brushed aluminum case along the top in the centre. Applying pressure caused the screen to click back into place but closing and opening the latop made the screen pop right back out again.

So tomorrow it is going back to Best Buy and hopefully they have one that doesn't have a defective screen.

I really wish I'd examined it more closely before I did all the work I did. A little pissed off at the moment as it sits there resetting to clear all my shit off it,
