Pissed off at the PS4 and other stuff

No not pissed off at the other stuff.

My week old PS4 began not starting after being powered off, shutting down on it's own while in "Rest mode" and finally turned itself off while my son was playing a game on it..

On googling I got hundreds of hits all of the issues I've run into and all sorts of whacky ways to fix them. Apparently the aforementioned issues are common place. Never heard anyone here mention any of it though.

I ended up taking it back to an EB here in London yesterday and they replaced the unit. Woke up this morning and pressed the power button on the new unit. It beeped and turned off, repeating this behaviour over and over again. I read that this is called the blue light of death and it's common in PS4s.

I also heard that it is caused by HDMI sync problems. Had to go out for a while so I unplugged everything and let it sit there for 5 hours. On my return I plugged it in to a different HDMI port on my TV using a different cable and low and behold it booted right up.

I've been reading all kinds of crap like always put it in rest mode and then never put it in rest mode. Then I read always turn the TV on first and set it to the correct HDMI port before pressing the power button. WTF? All I want to do is turn the thing on and off. It shouldn't require a Masters to use a gaming console should it? I'm at the point where if one more thing fucks up I'm taking it back for a refund,

In much much better news I picked up Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE yesterday. Turns out it's lots of fun if you can get past the pop idol bullshit and the pervy jiggly boobs thing, Definitely more SMT than FE by a huge margin so right up my street then. Hell yeah.

Boy you're not doing a very good job of selling me on the PS4 there. :)

Sorry there Boo Boo boy. It's been really frustrating and this is from someone who works with tech for a living, It's probably the most flaky, finnicky system I've ever owned and that's saying something.

I had some issues with my PS3 and cables. If I changed the cable to the TV, it wouldn't recognize the new cable until I fully rebooted the system. The PS3 would always be in rest mode, so to fully reboot it you had to hold down the power button for a certain length of time. I didn't know this and was baffled until I looked it up online.

The PS4 hasn't given me this problem, but then I haven't changed the cable yet.

Hey Dan, good to hear from you. I'm not usually the guy who gets the buggy systems but going through two in the space of a week pisses me off.

Now I found out the Bloodborne was in the drive of the one I took back. I need to go back to the store and pick it up.

I haven't had that problem, but my old playstation 4 died after a year and I had to get a new one. I love the console, but it seems like there's some dodgy wiring in them.

Ours did some funny things in the first couple months that we had...can't remember what exactly now...but I don't think it ever turned off while we were playing. It's probably been close to a year since it didn't anything screwy. I hope it stabilizes for you.

And here I've been contemplating joining the current generation. Maybe I'll wait a bit longer...

I hate to type this out loud but the second one has been fine since I unplugged everything and left it off for a while. But I also follow a strict boot up process where the TV is turned on first and I confirm it is set to the right HDMI port. Then and only then do I push the power button.

Then at the end of a session it is turned off completely and not put into rest mode.

So far that has been working for me.

Hot damn what are the odds you get two funky units? Sorry man. It would be nice if you can just start the dang thing up and play and when you're done shut it down, without having to follow a complicated startup/shutdown procedure. Hopefully everything is resolved.

Funny enough, the american localization of TMS still censored certain aspects.

Sucks to hear that about your PS4 issues. If anything, it kinda tells me to wait more until they finally release the updated PS4, because seriously, I thought we passed the time of the Red Ring of Death.

mine works ok, but I think I need to move it out of its shelf so it can breathe better, especially in this hot dusty environment.

Any better luck since you posted this?

Yep, hate to jinx it but this one has been fine since I started following the A. Turn on TV, B. make sure HDMI is set to 1, C. Turn on PS4  D. Turn on Controller.

Then I power it off completely every time from the menu and then turn off the TV.

I'm not getting to use it much since my son spends all his time in the game room Maybe this weekend I'll get some time with it.
