Getting my Audio Mojo Back

I have a fairly high end (albeit old) audio setup in my front room that has been neglected for a few years. I've decided to get back in the saddle again and remedy that.

I've been without a dedicated CD player for a while now and playing CDs on an old $99 Sony Blu Ray player just doesn't cut it.

So I ordered this last night from Best Buy.

It is a very highly reviewed unit so I thought I'd give it a shot. It's even got a USB which I'm assuming will let me play my 64 GB stick through the high end DAC.

I'm also going to take this old girl in, have her cleaned up and give her a new belt and cartridge so I can enjoy what is left of my vinyl collection

If she can't be saved I'll go for a Rega RP1. Really don't want to though. I love my Thorens,

Kind of excited about doing this. Listening to music through my main system used to be a daily thing for me. I've been neglecting it for too long.

I've noticed records getting more popular again recently. I have a friend who is really into them. He texted me a picture the other day of a new record coming out by Zuntata, Taito's in-house band. Taito being the video game company.

I had a friend who had a ton of disposable income and wanted to get into audio. He spent around 10 grand on his first system. 3 grand for his CD player alone. Then I convinced him to buy the Rega 'table you see above. $499 complete with cartridge.

His first words to me after I let him "settle in" with his new system for a month were "how is it possible that my $500 turntable sounds better than my $3000 CD player?"

I just smiled and said "good you're learning." Analogue rules!

If a record is recorded using analogue tech as opposed to digital and pressed on high quality vinyl there is nothing better in terms of sound. The biggest problem these days is that a lot of music is digitally recorded, mixed and mastered. If that is the case you gain nothing sonically from pressing it to vinyl as opposed to making a CD.

Analogue vinyl > CD > High Quality MP3 >>> streaming services > streaming services played back through bluetooth devices. That last one being the audio equivalent of two tin cans tied together with a piece of string.

I need to buy a dedicated CD player too. What kind of receiver are you using? I use a home theater receiver cause I watch bluray operas though it too. I don't know, sometimes I think I should get a better one, and I also need a better, clearer subwoofer. I find the BEatles records have the best sounding bass in the universe.

I haven't listened to any vinyl since I got back, but I just ordered the new Radiohead and should get it on Sunday.

I use an Adcom separate power and preamp with Newform Research Ribbon speakers. No sub. Yep McCartney's bass playing needs good deep detailed bass. He didn't just thump away.

I used to be into audiofile stuff. Recently I've been getting back into music but I don't really have the cash to beef it all up right. Also the time. I still have vinyl to rip that I haven't gotten to yet.

If I can get an stable income for myself, I would definitely like a vinyl player, especially one that can help me to convert stuff to MP3.

Ooooh I do love techy stuff but espcially when it comes to music. I don't think I ever owned a dedicated home CD player. The closest would have to be one of those all in one mini stereos in college. That bad boy you bought must sound amazing.
