July 4th Was Fun, June Recap, And Favorite Albums?

Good morning Pixlpeeps! For you folks in the US, I hope you enjoyed your July 4th Weekend and got to watch some fireworks, and eat tons of food that was grilled. There were a couple of shows that I could see from the house: the local casino put on a heck of a show, and then on the 4th the city had a show at the local muni golf course. The neighbors in my neighborhood were quiet and just had some parties, while the neighborhood across the street sounded like a war zone. Thank goodness there were no dumbasses who decided to shoot their guns in the air, because you know gravity. Since we are in a new month it is time to recap what has happened gaming wise for June

I started ten games in June, and finished two of those games and finished one game from my May list. I finished off NBA 2K14 on the PS4 but I still kept playing because I have a heck of a loaded team and I bought the Franchise.

I finished the story mode of LSW: Force Awakens and overall it’s your typical Star Wars game with a few tweaks. Now the puzzles are more in line with the Star Wars Universe. For the robots like BB-8 you spin items on screen to unlock doors, and roll on platforms to move items. Droids like C3P-0 you put three audio samples in order to unlock doors. There are also new items you break that can be built into different features to help you advance in the game. The trick is to build them in order. An example would be there was a water cannon you had to build but there were three steps, 1. Creating a connection from the water pipe to the reservoir, 2. Pumping the water into a container, and 3. Building the water cannon.

One of the new items included in the combat is cover-and-shoot sections, kind of like Gears of War. Your character hides behind some barriers and you have to take out a certain number of enemy troops. I like using Darth Vader because The Force > guns. One of the funky features in gameplay is that the game always defaults to not having inverted flight controls

I wish I didn’t have to constantly pause the game to activate this. As for my favorite new feature it is on the character select screen

Finally a little info on what each character can do. This would have saved me so much time on Lego Avengers because I had no idea what the majority of characters can do. Having their abilities listed makes the game so much easier.

The game is setup where you play through levels based on Force Awakens along with various missions that are based on the planets in the film. In each of these planets there are the game missions along with missions for Imperial Troops, Droids, Bounty Hunters, Regular Characters, and Racing. The racing features the Microfighter kits that are sold in stores (the mini versions of vehicles that a figure sits inside of). The usual suspects of collectables are present, including the gold bricks where once you unlock certain amounts, more planets are available. I think I logged in 17 hours in the game and I am at 76% completed. I found everything in the planet that is home to Maz’s Planet.

At first I was hesitant about buying this game because of Lego burnout, but with the changes in the game, it feels like a new series that I am enjoying. There are still some bugs, like certain explodables not being able to be selected, and the force not working on glowing sections but overall I like this game.

In other games I’m playing

Rise of the Tomb Raider – Steam

I’m still in the same spot as I was before Lego Star Wars started but I did pick up a side mission that I am currently in the process of completing. At some point I’d like to unlock more abilities, but I think I need to take out more animals. Also this game looks REALLY GOOD!

NBA 2K16: Michael Jordan Edition – Steam

I’m 34-0 and I am already thinking about changing my team’s uniforms for next season. I’d like to go away from the SDSU uniforms and more unique. I wish there was an option to have a home, away, and alternate created uniforms. I have the Tony Gwynn Throwbacks ready but I have to change my home uniform and I need to write down the different item locations on the uniform.

Grid Racing Games – Steam

Grid

I haven’t played as much but I finished another race and I am close to having enough cash to start my own team.

Autosport

I’m two races away from completing the current season and I am ready to finish up this mode of racing and concentrate on the other four (or is it five) modes. I would probably go to the street racing section.

Before I call it a blog I saw this on a message board I’m a member of and I thought it was interesting and I wanted to share it with you folks: By decade what is your favorite album? These were my choices

60s: Stan Getz Quartet featuring Astrud Gilberto – Getz Au Go Go

70s: Carpenters – Christmas Portrait

80s: Go-Go’s – Beauty And The Beat

90s: Dr. Dre – The Chronic / Jay-Z – Hard Knock Life Vol. 2

00s: Dance Hall Crashers – The Live Record / Danger Mouse – Grey Album

2010s: Best Coast – Crazy For You

Have a good week!

That’s all for now, more later!

-Chris

I'm listening to 60s stuff this month and I think my favorite album so far is Frank Zappa's Hot Rats.

I always try to fly with inverted controls but my instincts go the other way and usually I go change it too.

That third-person over-the-shoulder shooting in Lego SW FA sounds interesting.

Oh nice. I can't get into Zappa but the last time I listened to any of his stuff was in college. Maybe I should give it a listen again to see if my opinion still stands.

I like that feature in Lego Star Wars. It changes up the usual run around and destroy everything and collect studs.

Good news!  Over the weekend, I did get a review copy of LEGO Star Wars after all!  And I get to review the strategy guide, too!  I can understand the Gears of War comparison with the duck and cover segments, but my brother and I also called them "LEGO Time Crisis."  That thing about the inverted flight controls drove me crazy, too.  When do you unlock the racing segments with the minifigures?  I'd like to try one of those before reviewing the game fully.

The races are available on the open world sections of the planets in free play. You can find them because they have a checkered disc over the start. They're not that hard but if you can use a speederbike.

hey man, I created mutant players in NBA2K and I added them to my roster but I can't figure out how to play a game with them.  Any clue?

Honestly, I'm kind of disappointed with NBA2K.  Any game on a console that demands you email makes me fucking pissed.

Are you trying to play a quick game or a game within My League? If My League there is an option to use either the default or current rosters. That should let you play with your huge players.

I think 2K asks for the email because you can link the game with a mobile app. I do hate it when games do that because I want to jump in and play, not type out a bunch of stuff.

I have a hard time picking favorites in terms of music. I dunno what I'd pick for the 60s. For the 70s, probably Neil Young's Harvest. For the 80s, probably Paul Simon's Graceland. For the 90s...Garth Brooks' Ropin' the Wind comes to mind. 2000s would be a tos-up between Kathy Mattea's Coal and Singing Through the Hard Times, the tribute to Utah Phillips that my friends got nominated for a Grammy for. 2010s - again, another toss-up, Hard Times and Nursery Rhymes by Social Distortion or Dear Jean: Artists celebrate Jean Ritchie tribute CD that the same friend who produced the Utah Phillips CD produced.

My weekend was spent working, but we park rangers work so the rest of you can play. Had a great time patrolling the trails and talking to people, and the weather was perfect.

It's tough finding just one album per decade. I'm 80% sure without looking at my list that I own Ropin' the Wind and I believe I do have Graceland, because everyone says how good it is. Awesome list by the way!

And we thank you good folks who taking care of us when we visit the local parks.

I really don't know what my favorite albums would be, but Does This Look Infected? by Sum 41 has been in my car through some hard times.
