Archie Comics who own the rights to Sonic the Hedgehog (20 years) and Mega Man (about 2) are finally doing a crosover of the Two, True, Blue, Bot, Bashers in a 12 part event for 4 months.

Now before we get into this I will review the 2 issues that lead up to this timewarp, be thankful you don't need to know what happens in Mega Man to get into this as the current stories centre around the first couple of games anyway but if your savy you'll know Sonic takes more of it's lead from the Sonic SatAM cartoon than the games.

Mega Man #23

Writer: Ian Flynn             Pencils: Ryan Jampole

"For the Bot who has Everything"

Story takes place after MegaMan has defeated Dr. Wiley for the uptenth time and Mega Man is starting to get to grips with fame. And Proto Man, Dr. Lights first "son" is more than a little upset with both of them and as you expect Wiley is piling on the anger and fustration so he and Eggman pull off their master plan (Oooooo!).

Any theme of this issue is family the robots Rock saved are doing their best to get a present for him and the whole city is giving Rock his very much deserved attention. But as was alluded to Blues (Proto Man) crashes the party.

What you'll notice is that Proto Man's face is covered the whole time through this issue and he only has 1 line of Dialogue, This issue is more about Proto Man's

Ian Flyn excels in this good snappy approachable dialogue, the irony of the story is that this year is Megaman's 25th Aniversary.

The Artwork i'll say it's pretty good, not amazing but his panel composition and dynamic fight scenes work well, seeing Wiley in a dressing gown is surreal but manages to still look as wicked as he ever did, nice use of light and dark when applicable.

Sonic the Hedgehog #247

Writer: Ian Flynn                             Pencils: Evan Stanley

At All Costs Pt1:Fate Interrupted

The issue starts with a forboding Deathegg II in the Ice Zone (Arctic Tundra), so far so good.Laughing

A bit of context The Freedom fighters of New Mobotropolis has fallen apart, New Mobotropolis is usurped by an evil wizard being forced to do good, Princess Sally is turned into a Robot after the reboot and Sonic chasing Eggman down with Tails, Amy. Which brings us to the Arctic.

Sonic and the Gang team up with the Arctic Freedom Fighters (yes, they're international) to infiltrate Eggman's base. while this is going on Silver who's been time jumping in his attempts to find the Traitor that ruins his future... which involved getting it wrong so often knowone trusts him. Meanwhile in New Mobo' One of Eggman's many creepy inventions is doing some activities on the side.

(Ah! E-VILLE)

The story Is really good they pack allot of plot and action in 20pages tying up loss ends and with enough expostion which may have implications in the crossover. What's funny about STH is that it's has alot of pretty heavy stuff yet isn't at all depressing maybe it's all the anthropomothy but suppose because it's just good old fashioned. It ends on 2 cliffhangers and has a scene with the symbol of every Evil scientist....

Sharks with frikkin Laserbeamss on their heads. Okay they're Killer Whale with concussive blasters but Orca are badasses!Smile

The artist is great, he's no Tracy Yardley or Spaz but he does great action scenes plus unlike the other artists he still uses that hashtag style superhero comics uses and in cirtain pannels is very effective.

Conclution

Both issues do a good job of leaving in plot threads that may get resolve in the crossover and serves as a good way of bringing readers upto speed and the abrupt endings are enticing although in STH Ian couldn't help but make fun of this same plot point he used during the Genesis rebootTongue Out

MegaMan is a personal story while Sonic the Hedgehog is all about the bigger picture, i'm curious to see how these dynamics play off each other. These'll be free soon don't sweat buying them

I'm anticipating Part 1 tomorrow Cool

This is V saying "Good Reading"

afterward

Also the spin-off comic Sonic Universe which is also at its 50th issue is a special milestone, Metal Sonic vs Shard (reformed Mecha Sonic and Freedom Fighter) which takes place before STH #247. The story is similar to that of Megaman and ends on a very worrying cliffhanger on Shard's Fate.Surprised

It also has a reprint of the Sonic the Hedgehog #25 where Metal Sonic (with Sega Saturn and Virtua Fighter plugs in the 2 page spread), good times Laughing

(And the Off Panel joke collumn made Silver's "It's no use" genuinely funny, Good one IanWink)

Which option do you use for those red title borders? I found one that seemed like it'd be it the other day, but it kept making more boxes for text to go inside whenever I hit enter.

Anyway, I'm glad there are sea mammals with lasers on their heads. More are needed.

You're right about Orcas. They are badasses. Saw one in the wild off the coast of Oregon once, near Astoria. He came along our port side and being playful sort of. Almost like a dolphin would do. Perhaps he was just curious. Look forward to the crossover comics as I'm a fan of both Sonic and Mega Man. Now I'm off to mount a frikkin' laser to my pet shark's head. If I can get him to hold still long enough, that is.
