Don't buy Necropolis

It's garbage. It took literally all morning to get running (doesn't work with Razer headphones) and when I got it working it wasn't worth it. Combat is the biggest offender here, and feels more like Ocarina of Time combat than Dark Souls combat. Now, if that sounds appealing to you, imagine that Ocarina of Time was only combat and only against the minion enemies.

Yeah, doesn't sound fun does it.

Not to mention it's not much of a roguelike either, and is very poorly optimized for such a minimalist title.

This game sounds like crap.  Was it expensive?

I'd rather have them come up with their own combat approach.Already tired of "inspired by Souls." Or copy from Severance: Blade of Darkness, which would be very different from everything else coming out lately.

Game look liked cheap-o, uninspired shit to me anyway. That "art style," smh.

I still like Souls style combat honestly. Combat and level design are the things I wish games would learn more from Souls, although I wish learn didn't exactly mean steal in this industry.

I really need to play Severance sometime. How well does it hold up?

Holds up pretty well. Lighting was probably impressive for it's time. Controls aren't the smoothest, but the melee system is pretty complex.  I was playing it until I had a glitch where I couldn't die, lol

As glitches go that's not too shabby :p

Yeah controls are my biggest issue when playing old games. I can handle shitty textures and even weird polygonal faces, but when the game doesn't feel good to play, that's when I'm out.

How the heck does a game not work with headphones... does not compute.

Let alone headphones from a pretty big gaming company...

Are they wireless?

Nope, but they are 7.1 surround sound. However, I've heard it's not just my specific headphones, but the Razer brand in general.

Thats disappointing, I had been interested in it. Thank you for the heads up.

I had been too. It looks nice, but it's just so unsatisfying to play unfortunately.

I read procedurally generated dungeons and was like eww, chalice dungeons again.

Yeah, but with a bit more variety. Honestly, I like Dark Souls, and I've been seriously digging Enter the Gungeon, so I was somewhat excited for what I thought would be a cool mix. But it wasn't unfortunately.

Saw some video of this during E3 and was kind of wishy-washy on what I saw. Figured if it was ever in the range of $5-$10 I might check it out, but definitely not at $30. I'll probably just skip it altogether now, so thanks for the heads up!

Wasn't their initial Shadowrun release less than stellar, but they came back and fixed things up with updates?  I am not trying to excuse them since they apparently released a sub-par product.

Right, but that was technical problems and balancing issues if I'm recalling right. The first one still honestly isn't great, though Dragonfall and Hong Kong are utterly amazing.

Those games get by heavily on their stories and worlds though, whereas this is heavily reliant on both the combat and the roguelike loop. They could easily fix the roguelike systems with some patching, as drops are the main problem most people have with most runs feeling very samey - but I don't see them fixing the combat without a decent overhaul.

I saw the description on Steam and yeah its something I wouldn't play. That's odd that it wouldn't work with a specific brand of headphones, but hopefully you got your money back.

That's fair enough, it's definitely not a type of game suited to everyone. Yeah, I got my refund. Now I just have to work out what else I want to spend that $30 on haha.
