One Batman Game Down, Three To Go

Earlier this morning I woke up around 5am and couldn’t go back to sleep so as I waited for my alarm to go off I watched YouTube videos on the iPad. There are a lot of recent (to me they’re new) videos about people going out and buying everything video games. Since my local Goodwill now ships off anything of value to their major distribution center to be placed on their eBay like site, it has been tough finding games that I want to add to my library. It seems like folks who are late to the party either have to pay a lot more, or have to go find stuff at Garage Sales and Swapmeets but even those are starting to become tough. Heck my local swapmeet various vendors are selling what used to be $1-4 carts now for $10-15 and even some used games going for new retail.

I think I’ve hit the point where I don’t want to go out and look for video game deals anymore. A couple of years ago it was fun to go through EBGames website updates at 2am, and finding newly added items for under $5 and throwing in a cheap .99 third party controller for free shipping just to walk it into a GameStop and return it. Goodwill and other thrift stores were selling complete Genesis games for a couple of bucks, and it was fun to look through the CD section and see Playstation, and Dreamcast games pop up here and there. Now Goodwill has a bunch of Wii shovelware, Sports games, and an occasional gem for $6. I think this added with the space these games take up, has pushed me away from physical media. Heck now for the price of a couple of used games I would buy at GameStop, I can’t hit up a number of vendors on r/gamedeals and buy six or seven games. I really don’t think I am missing out on anything on the PS4, PS3, and 360 because I have the games I want for it, and now if anything new that comes out that I want to play I am starting to look at PC first. I like to think I got a good deal on Lego Star Wars, and when No Man’s Sky is released I will probably wait. I don’t know, I’m just rambling, these are the things that pop into my head while being a little cranky because I woke up way too early this morning and I’m watching random video game collector rave about their recent finds.

Last week I finished off the main story in Batman Arkham Asylum

And just like when I originally played it on the PS3, I enjoyed the game. It was fun being the dark gritty Batman taking on iconic villains while at the same time looking for random hidden items and blowing things up. I found the Riddles to be easier than I remembered, and the handful I encountered that I couldn’t figure out, hello YouTube. I haven’t found everything in the game so as of right now it still lives on the hard drive.

After finishing Arkham Asylum I waited a day before jumping into the next Batman game Arkham City on Steam, that I bought maybe almost two weeks ago

A couple of years ago I bought the PS3 collectable version of this game that came with a bunch of DLC, skins, and a statue of Batman (it’s still in the box) and I got to a point early on where I couldn’t  figure out how to advance the story, got stuck, and gave up. Early on I was dreading this moment in the game and when I came to this point, I quickly figured out where I went wrong and from that point on, I’ve been playing a ton of the game.

Currently I am eight hours in, and I have improved somewhat from my button mashing Arkham Asylum ways to mixing up my combos and incorporating the use of some of Batman’s gadgets. This might be my new favorite in the Batman series.

Other games I played this past weekend

Warhammer 40,000 Dawn of War: Game Of The Year Edition – Steam

I haven’t played much, just a bit of the tutorial. I got to a certain point where I was just building while the voice was talking and I miss the last instruction. Instead of saving I just quit, and I will probably go back later on today, and listen to the tutorial. Overall it seems like other strategy games I’ve played so it should be fun.

Table Top Racing with DLC – Steam

I finally finished off the first trophy event in the game and I like the style of racing. It kind of reminds me of the old Micro Machines, and RC Pro Am games except the view is behind the car instead of overhead. There’s no earth shattering innovation with this game, just your typical racing game with power-ups and weapons, but instead of cute Nintendo characters in go karts, you have Micro Machine like cars that race around improvised tracks that remind me of some of the things I used to do as a kid.

This is a fun game and I think I paid around $5 for the game and the one available DLC pack for it, which is 50% of the regular retail.

The final game I’ve been playing is NBA 2K16 Michael Jordan Edition on Steam. I decided it was time to retire the mid-90s Toronto Raptors inspired jerseys, and go with something more modern. This time I decided to create a jersey that could be something that Nike would create for college teams. I took a classic design

And took a modern take on it. I like how on the road jersey it isn’t as visible because I like the look of an all-black jersey. When I make a red version it will probably be more noticeable.

For the jersey I brought the same concept to the team name across the chest

I like how it looks and it brings the Aztec Calendar to the sides of the shorts and to the front of the jersey.

Alright Pixlpeeps I am off, have a good week!

That’s all for now, more later!

that was quick for Batman. I tell you the others are going to take a bit more time.  Some people prefer Arkham Asylum the best cause of its smaller nature, but I loved Arkham City the best.  I could not get through Arkham Knight. It had some cool stuff, but I guess i was burned out on the franchise, and I kind of think the developer is too.

I think with Arkham Asylum I remembered some portions from my playthrough on PS3 so I breezed through those spots. I still need to find all the Riddler stuff and the Arkham story reels. Arkham City was a lot of fun and I left a bunch of Riddler stuff on there too that I will get back to. I might jump back into that game for the New Game+ feature. Knight was good but the game should have been called Batman Driving Around Gotham. Hopefully with my second playthrough I'll get more out of the game.

Mark and I were just talking about going up to a flea market again like we used to all the time. We stopped because the internet made all the vendors think they could charge outrageous prices. I'd like to check it out again to see if it's changed, but I kind of doubt it. Cheap deals are hard to find these days.

Yup the eBay thinking has ruined the swapmeets. I get trying to make a profit but you're just not going to move product if a beat up copy of Mario Bros. on NES is $15. If I go I usually avoid the stalls that have a huge supply of games and stick to the smaller vendors who just want to move it out of their house.
