What to Buy Me for Christmas

Our Holiday Buyer's Guides are going up on the site and I hope you'll read mine but I thought I would write about what I would want for Christmas. You see, gamers like me who are super into retro gaming and have different tastes are hard to shop for. Actually, I'm personally just hard to shop for period because I'm super picky. Needless to say, I get a lot of gift cards. So I thought I would post what someone like me would like. (read: buy me this stuff).

I really dig Sega. Something about their games are so quirky and experimental; they truly are the company that tried new things and fueled innovation in our beloved medium. Currently, I only own a Sega Genesis and I love it. Every once and awhile, I pop in a Sonic game and get stuck on it for at least a couple of hours. However, there's a special place in my heart for Sega's least successful console, the Saturn. The Saturn, as you may know from my blog about it, is in my mind Royalty among the other consoles. It's elusiveness yet strong potential is why it was basically too good for America and why a King failed in a democratic market. Nonetheless, the bottom line is I want a Sega Saturn. The model 2 controller is one of my favorite controllers ever and there's an arcade charm that the system has. Titles like Virtua Fighter 2, X-Men: Children of the Atom, and Clockwork Knight are blasts to play despite load times and sometimes bare bones presentation. Quirky titles like Nights into Dreams, Mr. Bones, and Cyber Speedway are weird and sometimes barely mechanically functional but you would never see titles like this released now. Even some of the ports that are better known on the PlayStation, like Tomb Raider, are lots of fun despite some questionable graphic designs (everything is squares instead of triangles). Not to mention that the Sega Saturn is the best console to get for import games. X-Men vs. Street Fighter, DonPachi, Shining Force III 2 and 3, the list goes on. Bottom line is that the Sega Saturn is a system that's underrated and I WANT ONE! If somehow I were to get the model 1 console, that would be ideal!

I have a Wii now and the best games for the console I have yet to get. What I'm calling the Nintendo Trilogy, I'm talking about Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Mario Kart Wii, and The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword. Of course I have played them except for Skyward Sword but I've never owned them and therefore, I haven't actually progressed in them. The story mode in Brawl, the various cups in Mario Kart and although its the newest on the list, the epic adventure in Skyward Sword. All are experiences I haven't had to pleasure to have. I'll be getting myself a PS3 this Christmas but I won't be getting any new titles (expect for maybe Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition, still on the fence about that). Therefore, a new title from this year for the PlayStation 3 would be awesome. On the top of the list would be The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. Mortal Kombat and Resistance 3 would be my next choices. Just saying. Adding to the PlayStation 3 list in a sense, I would love Chrono Cross. Either the original PlayStation 1 disc or the PSone classics download, I love this game. If you own a PlayStation, either 1, 2 or 3, get this game. There is some way to play it on either of those consoles. Oh wait. I'm getting off topic. Get ME this game! Alright, that's enough begging on my part. Thanks for reading and seeing what I want, for what's that worth to you. Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door.
