I bought this during the THQ Sale on PSN and I have to say Im really happy with my buy. It kept me entertained the entire time and was fun to play, I normally get annoyed with timed button type stuff but it really worked well with the costumes. The buttons normally would change but occasionally you would catch a row of the same button. The costumes also had some different button schemes to them. For example the Knight and the Unicorn were quick button presses, the Ninja and Robot were timed ones, the Vampire and French Fry was button mashers, and the Statue of Liberty and Eyeball didnt evolve buttons for there main attack, you had to push the left analog forward. Here is a list of the costumes and there attack type/focus

Robot- Attack/Ranged

Knight- Defense/Melee

Statue Of Liberty- Support/Ranged

Space Warrior- Special/Melee

*Ninja- Attack/Melee

Unicorn- Support/Magic

French Fry- Special/Melee

Black Cat- Special/Magic

*Pumpkin- Attack/Ranged

Vampire- Attack/Magic

Eyeball- Attack/Melee

Pirate- Attack/Melee

Yeti- Defense/Melee

If it has a star by it, it was a fave I really liked to use.

By the way, the Yeti, Pirate, and Eyeball costumes are from the DLC add on for the game.

They did a good job when it came to the costume desgins. When the characters change into them they became ten times more cool for battle mode.

Pre Battle Mode Pumpkin

In Battle Pumpkin

The Pumpkin does the best victory dance EVER! That is why everyone shall bow down to the Pumpkin King! Anywho I think costumes and Gameplay is covered well now...

Story and character wise its quite cute. You begin the game with 2 siblings doing what they do best, fighting with one another. Your mom says one of you need to be the leader and the one you choose is who you play as. I was the sister Wren. Once the opening scene is done, you and your brother go trick or treating and in the course of it your brother gets kidnapped by a grubbin called Gus. They think he is candy because he dressed as a candy korn. As you continue along you gain 2 allies named Everett and Lucy who also wear costumes and help you battle the Grubbins, Trowbogs, and Crestwailers. Each species is stronger then the other and each one has a white and black magic user as well as melee fighters. The main antagonist of the game is Dorsilla and Big Bones. Yes, there is a reason he is called Big Bones. Oh and I forgot to mention, one of the play mechanics is as you should guess, TRICK OR TREATING! You go door to door and have a chance of being greated by a Human, who will give you candy, or a Grubbin enemy who will fight you.

Once you complete the main game I encourage you to buy and play the DLC add on Grubbin on Ice. While the play elements stay the same it adds an extra story/adventure to go through. While Lucy and Everett are out looking for evidence of the supernatural world Lucy gets sucked into a portal which takes you to the place you heard about in the previous game, Repugia. Everett runs to get Wren and Reynold *the brother/sister duo* to help with getting Lucy back. So once again yor back to fighting monsters in costumes! In Repugia everyone is getting pretty tired of Araxia crap and wanting to revolt, Your there for like 5 mins and trust me, your gonna get tired of his crap. So instead of being against the Crestwailers, Trowbogs, and Grubbins, your fighting along side them. Like I previous said, they use all the same mechanics as the previous storyline and your still getting candy by going door to door as well from the environment. As you going through each layer of the mountain, you help a different elder for each of the species until you get to the top to fight the final boss which of course is Araxia and Big Bones yet again. Once you end the game ends off on a happy yet....cliffhanger note.

They could really do either a sequel or another add on to it but with it being so long since the games first release now, I dont see it happening. Kind of sad because this game is a lot of fun and has potential even if it is a PSN title. I'm glad I got this game and if your looking for a neat and fun PSN game to play this is it!

On a lil last note....Black Licorice

Black licorice really does turn me off. Good thing there's cherry twizzlers, pull-n'-peel cherry twizzlers, and red vines.

Trick or treating in a game sounds awesome. My ex gf would love this probably, her favorite holiday is Halloween, and that pumpkin sure does go from cute to badass fast! I wish that's how costumes actually worked, like they do in games and TV shows. lol

Costume Quest is one of my favorite quick fix games out there.  I like playing it around Halloween since it can be completed in a night (a longer night to be sure) and the DLC quest isn't all that bad.  Would love to see another game like this from Double Fine in the not too distant future.

I wish I would have waited till Halloween to play this title, would have been a great time to do my first run through of it! Ill prolly still play it when the holiday gets here though. Id love to see a sequel or another DLC add on but alas I dont think it will happen any time soon :(. Id settle with a game similar too it.

I am a black licorice junky and I hate the red stuff because er, it's not actually licorice.

I've found a Dutch store in Chatham, Ontario that sells about 50 different kinds.

I need to get back to Costume Quest. I've had it downloaded for ages now.

Most Dutch licorice is black or brown and it's either sweet or salty, hard or soft but if you don't like black twizzlers you probably won't like any of it. In England when I was growing up they used to sell licorice root which you chewed up to get the flavour and then spit out the woody pulp. LOL. That's how I acquired my taste for it. My whole family loves black licorice too but they'll also eat the red twizzlers and I won't. Bloody heathens!

I still need to get this. I remember my biggest beef was the reputedly short length but sometimes it's nice to be able to finish a game in one sitting as opposed to having to clock in 100+ hours!

I find that depending how much it is is what decides if the length is okay or not. This was only like 3 to 4 bucks when I bought it so being short wasnt a prob. Now if  had spent 60 and it was short well it would be a very big problem, lol. I remember when my sister first played FF13, I couldnt believe how damn long it was. I eventually took a nap and when I woke up she was still working on beating it!

I enjoyed this game.  The atmosphere was amazing.  Halloween was my favorite holiday as a kid.  The dressing up, the yard decorations, the frights, the walking around at night and getting candy...everything about it just seemed magical.  Now as a jaded adult it's not very often that I get to feel that way.  This game brought it back for me, if just for a short time.

My only complaint about the game is how simple the fighting system was.  There really wasn't any strategy other than to not miss the button presses.  However, the fighting wasn't really the point of the game, at least in my opinion.  It did everything else right.

I let the fighting system go with out compliant, while it is simple sometimes I get tired of all the complex stuff with other games that I need a break from it. This gave me that short nice break I needed.

I still try to retain my child like feelings of Halloween but each and every year it slips more and more away. I think Ill make it a tradition to play this game each Halloween so that maybe I can continue to hold on to it.
