i can only do one daredevil at a time as well. I'm about halfway through the first season. Looking forward to eventually getting through all those marvel netflix shows though. Might take years.

On Saturday mornings I like to sleep in but yesterday I decided to put off one errand because of all things I was watching an episode of The Love Boat, so because of that I am up early and then I also realized I didn’t write up a Quick Hits blog (that one I can blame on tinkering with GTA V). Since I am up, and the store I was supposed to go to is not open for another hour or so I might as well catch you good people up on what has been going on, Quick Hits style!
Chris Watches…
I finally saw Straight Outta Compton last weekend and I have to say I enjoyed the movie. Growing up I didn’t listen to a lot of NWA, because it would have been weird for a kid in the elementary school to listen to gangsta rap. I did however appreciate their work in high school after they broke up. I bought Dr. Dre’s The Chronic and that was my gateway CD to this group. It was a good flick and I was waiting for more of the politicians taking a bigger role in adding the parental advisory stickers on music but it was just a story on the World’s Most Dangerous Group.
Big Brother –CBS: I finished the season which was for the most part bleh. I didn’t like the winner, and I felt that bringing back the veterans didn’t really bring any new storylines to the show other than being the puppeteers. The first time around I was a Nicole fan, but after watching this season, that has pretty much soured. CBS has a new online only season of BB called Over The Top, and originally I thought about paying the $5 a month for it but decided against it because I already have Netflix, Amazon Prime and the WWE Network as my pay TV stuff, and I don’t really have the need/time to watch another streaming service.
Daredevil –Netflix: I am officially halfway through the season. This show is really good but I find it exhausting because there is so much drama packed into one episode that I really can’t sit and have a marathon of episodes. Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and the new Luke Cage are just too dark for me to absorb in one sitting. In fact I’ve been putting off watching Jessica Jones, because I just can’t get into it, and I think when I finally check out Luke Cage, it will be more of the same. Maybe Daredevil is my one and only dark super hero show.
Supergirl – Netflix/CW: I started watching this on Netflix and to my surprise it is really good. Remember when I talked about dark super hero shows? This really isn’t one of them. It follows your typical network drama of every week a different bad guy, meets a superhero in training who is still learning about herself, and has conflicts not only as Supergirl, but as Kara. This show reminds me of early Green Batman (Arrow) where Superhero has to adjust to living two separate lives, having a team (seriously when did having a team consisting of a computer nerd, the muscle, and the love interest become a thing? I’m looking at you too Arrow, The Flash, and Marvel’s Agents Of SHIELD) My one gripe with the show is this: why is Supergirl always in a fist fight? You can fly really fast, shoot lasers out of your eyes, super strength, and freeze breath. There should be no reason why every episode needs a fist fight. There’s also the fake Lex Luthor who I’m calling evil Tony Stark who looks like will be the one Supergirl needs to stop before he can figure out who she is. If I didn’t know better this is probably a reboot of Smallville. Anyways I am sucked into this show, it’s good, it’s a fun hour of television that isn’t too serious, will move toys, and has underlying themes of girl power that frankly isn’t too pushy but gives little girls something different than the tons of other stuff they see on television.
Oh I forgot to mention, since Supergirl has a love interest I hope they don’t mess it up like they did with Arrow. There was a lot of promise with Arrow, and it turned to crap last season.
Other shows I’m watching: New Agents of SHIELD is starting off strong and it has Ghost Rider. I might have to buy the Ghost Rider Lego set now. Other than that and wrestling, there really isn’t much I’m watching.
Chris listens to…
So before my trip I had something like 40 unlistened to podcasts on my phone but thanks to the new Apple Update (ugh!) after a certain point those podcasts can’t be listened to, and I found out about this while on the plane ride to and from New Orleans. There goes 10 podcasts, I wanted to check out. Also I streamlined my podcast playlist again, and now I think I only have The Tony Kornheiser Show, CAGcast, Videogame Generations, some pods from The Ringer, Adam Carolla, and the Ben Shapiro Show (it balances out the network news which tends to be left leaning. I figure this way I can get a somewhat accurate view of the world by having a conservative pod mixed in with the national news) Anyways after pruning through my playlist I got my current unlistened to podcasts down to a manageable 5 or 6 episodes.
As for my regular listening of iTunes I have no idea where I last left off in listening to songs that have zero plays but currently I am sitting at
I don’t think I’ll hit my goal of listening to everything by the time the new year starts, but I should be a hell of a lot closer. Of course it isn’t helping that I am probably going to be picking up a couple of new CDs either today or next week.
Also I am warning you folks now, the minute I give out the last piece of candy to random trick or treaters at the end of month, I’m going into full Christmas Mode. I love you Thanksgiving, but I do love me some Christmas Music.
Pickups
Nothing on the game front because my time is split between trying to finish The Division, and adding new mods to GTA V. More on this on Monday.
As for music, I like to think I found some good stuff to add to the library thanks to a couple of thrifts I hit up last week. At one thrift store a lady camped out in front of the CD section pulling everything Broadway/Country/Adult Contemporary and having a stack of maybe 30 CDs to look through. I took a quick scan of her stack and it was stuff I really wasn’t into or I already owned so I didn’t miss much. I did however find 5 CDs that I am happy to add to my library
I’ve never seen this Luscious Jackson CD before so I picked it up (there are only really a couple of songs I like from them, but I wanted to check it out anyways), and Harry Belafonte because of Jump in the Line. Yeah it was one of those songs that stuck out for me in Beetlejuice.
Yeah I think I know a couple of Badfinger songs, and I guess I’m still trying to complete the Celine Discography. I don’t know why, but I started so I have to finish.
I also think I’m trying to finish the Rush Discography now. Thanks Archer.
Alright Pixlpeeps it is 9:15am, I really should get up and get moving today. I’m currently typing this while on my back in my bed but I have to get my one errand done so I can spend the day watching college football…or Supergirl. I’m happy to see Chyler Leigh back on TV again. Anyways have a good weekend!
That’s all for now, more later!
