Games Beaten

-Song of the Deep (PS4)

Song of the Deep has a lot going for it. Its setting is unusual for the genre, for starters, and the developers have done a good job of visually realizing the depths of the sea while making the different areas distinct. The soundtrack fits it perfectly as well. The upgrades and necessary backtracking feel important rather than arbitrary and there are lots of hidden treasures to find, tho they're marked on the map. The boss fights are underwhelming but the story is brimming with heart. There is no Platinum for this game but I did collect all the trophies Smile

-Mighty No. 9 (PS4)

Given pedigree of its designer and the track record of the developer, MN9 should have been a great game. But it looks like an up-rezzed PS2, has utterly forgettable music, bland-at-best level design, annoying and/or lame characters, and questionable design decisions (like needing to absorb every enemy). I was so disappointed that I hardly managed to finish. The last two levels are probably the best but that's not saying much. It's not a BAD game but it should have been sooooo much better.

Games Bought

Once I collected the last trophy in Freedom Wars, my little group was able to move on to something new: God Eater 2: Rage Burst (PS4). It's kind of like coming full circle because the first game we played together was the original God Eater on PSP. Near the end of the month I picked up the new Destiny expansion, Rise of Iron (PS4). Other than that I found a copy of Super Mario Galaxy (Wii) for $5 at a consignment sale. I've already done everything there is to do in that game—it's so good!—but I'm happy to finally have my own copy.

PS+ was it's usual mixture. Games I've heard of but probably won't play—Lords of the Fallen (PS4), BADLAND: Game fo the Year Edition (PS4/PS3/Vita)—games I've never heard of—Amnesia: Memories (Vita), Datura (PS3)—and something I'm legitimately interested in—Prince of Persia: Forgotten Sands (PS3).

Now Playing

-Deus Ex: Mankind Divided (PS4)

This game didn't seem to much hype at all, which really sucks because it's really good. I'm a good ways into the story and really enjoying it quite a bit.

-Destiny: Rise of Iron (PS4)

This is definitely a lighter weight expansion compared to The Taken King but it's brought some interesting things to Destiny and I'm enjoying it so far.

-Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward (Vita)

After an extended break from this game, I'm back into in a big way. I'm nearly 40 hours in and they're still dropping big plot twists!

-Diablo III: Reaper of Souls - Ultimate Evil Edition (PS4)

Took down the Grim Reaper righthand man last night.

-God Eater 2: Rage Burst (PS4)

There is a lot of content in this game. Should keep us busy for quite a while.

Song of the Deep definitely intrigues me.

I've had some other friends complaining about Mighty #9 lately. Ug. Sounds half-cooked.

I was looking at Mankind Divided, and I'm interested in it. It just seems like it's been getting mixed reviews.  ONe guy I know was complaining about how it's a good game, but the story is a total disconnect from logic.  I dunno, I haven't played it so,,,

The main complaint I've heard about Mankind Divided is that it's more of the same, which I guess is true but seriously, it's been FIVE YEARS since the last Deus Ex game. There are not too many of these! And while I can't comment on the story as a whole yet, I really like it so far. It has a good mystery/conspiracty vibe going.

You should get Song of the Deep. It's only $15 and isn't too long.

Been thinking about Destiny a lot this week. I want to go play it, but my copy is on 360 and I've moved on to XBO now. Gonna need the current version if I'm to go back to it.

Your character from the 360 will carry over to the X1 though, so at least you won't lose anything. Rise of Iron doesn't support the older consoles anyway, so that works out for you. But I know it's not cheap buying for the new systems.

Yea, well, I won't have a new game for Nov and Dec this year, so maybe Destiny will be the thing. I'm thinking about Lego Dimensions too.

Well I know which of those I'd recommend Wink

I think I'm picking up a Wii-U now. That'll keep me from new games for Nov and Dec. Oh well.

I only played the first level of Mighty No. 9 when I bought it, but that's because right after, I got a deluge of games to review so I've been working on those first.  I'll just have to play Mighty No. 9 later when things settle down.  It really reminds me of a old PS2 or GameCube title.  One reason is the graphics.  The other reason is because back in the PS2/GameCube days, I would often wait a few months to get a game so the price would go down significantly.  Well that happened with Mighty No. 9, too.  I waited a few months and got it new for 14 bucks!  Since I only played the first level, I can't pass judgement on it yet.

And you may well enjoy it. Like I said, it's not bad but it's firmly B-tier at best and the expectations (which I believe were mostly justified) were so much higher. I'd be interested in your opinions when you finally get to it.
