Quick Hits: I Want A Red Cape

I just spent probably an hour trying to figure out why the latest Script Hook was crashing my Grand Theft Auto V. I followed everything people were writing and still the same problem. Finally it hit me (of course the huge green box in Open IV helped) that I should replace one file with the new one and boom everything works! I am a happy camper again and I can continue the solo story mode of what’s going on in Los Santos. Good morning Pixlpeeps, that is what I was doing this morning during the start of my three day weekend. After this I will probably go back and continue where I left off earlier this week. So a couple of things were brought to my attention earlier this week when checking my email:

I saw that Sony was taking down their Fat Princess mobile game. I haven’t touched it in a year but it was a fun game, and then it got me thinking, could Sony do this to other games not just mobile? Some folks invested in buying digital because of convenience, but what happens if Sony says they’re pulling the game from their store. I could be overthinking this.

My second email was from GameStop, the usual one about trade in your games but it got me thinking about my account that I rarely use because I don’t buy console games as often as I used to. I checked my account and sure enough GameStop forced a coupon on me while using my points for it. I talked to the GameStop employee and they said there’s nothing they can do about it, and I had to use it before next month. That right there just sold me on why I really won’t shop there anymore. I still have some remaining points that I will use on another coupon and then after that I’ll just call it a day with that store and maybe occasionally shop there. On to happier more normal things for a Quick Hits

Chris Watches…

I’m all in on Supergirl. I have four episodes left before finishing Season 1 and thanks to The CW letting anyone stream from their app (my cable company is garbage. Sereiously who only offers a Standard Definition stream of a network channel and doesn’t partner up with apps from major channels?) Back to the show: I’m enjoying the show although there have been some episodes I really didn’t like but I did however like how the writers are moving the characters along. I spoiled the season by watching a recap show on YouTube so I know how the season ends but I’m still watching and I will probably catch another episode when I spend time on the treadmill after this blog burning off the cheese Danish I’m currently munching on for breakfast.

Oh before I forget I didn’t notice it earlier but Supergirl from the original Supergirl movie plays the mother who raised Supergirl on Earth. Well played CBS having Supergirl and Superman be the folks who raised Supergirl.

Green Batman (Arrow) – CW App: I skipped out on the last four or five episodes of last season because I didn’t like the storyline. Darhk was such a good villain but the show went all in on the breakup of Olly and Felicity. I really liked their dynamic before this season but during the middle of it I turned and I wanted Olly and Laurel to go back together…and then they killed her off. Now Arrow is mayor, and he’s gone back to killing everyone like the first season. There was also an arrow to the knee joke in the first five minutes. If we’re back to angry Arrow, and less Oliver and Felicity than I might come back and be a regular viewer again.

College and Pro Football – Twitter

I’m really digging Twitter being used to stream football games. The Mountain West Conference had a couple of games streamed on there that I watched and last night I watched parts of the football game on my phone while making dinner. I’m digging it but at the same time I do wonder especially with the college game they put out hashtags during the broadcast. How am I supposed to tweet about the game if I’m watching the game through Twitter?

Randoms

  • I cleaned out my bookmarks a couple of days ago. I went through what felt like thousands of bookmarks in my browser and got rid of everything I don’t need, became dead links, or in some cases sites I already check out by default.
  • I forgot to screengrab my iTunes library to show you folks how many unlistened to tracks I still have and at this point I’m too lazy to do so on account of my cheese Danish but I can tell you is that I added new CDs, a couple of digital albums I had in my download music folder (legit albums from indie artists, and a compilation made by a DJ) so that easily added maybe 300 new tracks
  • I’m currently waiting for a package to get here from Amazon and of course I’m hitting refresh on their site every five minutes for news
  • Did you know Amazon Prime includes free books and magazines to read? No idea about this feature until I saw someone tweet about it. I might add the app to my iPad so I have something to read the next time I’m on a flight
  • I took this picture while on a walk around the neighborhood

Pickups

Games

So after I couldn’t get back my points I decided to use my coupon. First I wanted to get Star Wars Battlefront the Deluxe Edition for PS4 but honestly how much of it will I play and besides the minute I buy it, it’s going to be super cheap for PC. After a good 20 minutes of looking around and listening to some random fanboy talk to the female employees about his fanboy-ness (more power to you bro!) I decided on this game

I played a game similar to it on the 3DS that I liked even if I had no idea what the girl was singing because it was in Japanese. Anyways it’s a rhythm game like Guitar Hero except the icons appear all over the screen. The 3DS game I bought came with a bunch of AR cards and the Vita game came with a small pouch for the Vita

Yeah just like the cards, the pouch will remain in its shrink wrap. Good game by the way.

Music

From the church run thrift store who sells CDs for .50

Nothing fancy. The kicker was that the lady manning the register tried to charge me $1.50 per CD. I told her the CDs in the back are .50 and then she said “ok I’ll charge you that” and then back to the original .50 cents.

Alright Pixlpeeps I am off. I need to edit this pictures, and then get ready for the gym. Today’s episode of Supergirl some red kryptonite changes Supergirl to be evil. That should be some fun treadmill TV. Have a good weekend!

That’s all for now, more later!

-Chris

I should have skipped your Arrow and Supergirl sections. I'm only on season 2 of Arrow and haven't started Supergirl yet.

As for Gamestop, I pretty much stopped shopping there three years ago. I've been in twice since I moved into the cottage, once to try and get a car charger for my 3DS, which they didn't have (or claimed they didn't and tried to sell me some expensive USB charger instead), and once to spend the gift card I got for Christmas last year. I ended up spending most of the card and then passing the remainder on to my nephew. There are some really good independent game stores in the area, and they have better prices and better customer service than Gamestop does.

I'm not down with gamestop either.  I'm sure there's some nice people who work there, but their corporate policies make me want to smoke crack.

I haven't watched any Supergirl, but I'm glad all those DC shows are doing ok.  My dad was into Flash for a while and then lost interest.

I was reorganizing my room today and was sorting through some old game boxes and cartridges and CD's and what not that I don't really need anymore.  I probably won't get rid of them, but they're going into storage.

Supergirl is a solid show. Its the exact opposite of the dark Daredevil/Jessica Jones Superhero shows. Within an hour you get some laughs, action, and good old fashion superhero fighting.

We don't have Gamestop but we do have EB Games so I guess that's pretty much the same thing.

I shop there pretty much all the time because A. I know the managers in all five London stores and one in Chatham, and B. I don't have any independent stores nearby so it's EB or Walmart for me.

Never had a problem at EB.

Oh, I had plenty of problems at the EB that used to be in the mall in South Portland.

There used to be some really good employees at the GameStop's by my house. Now they're ok but that customer service is lacking. It's a shame really. I'm glad folks like yourself still have a good relationship with the people who work at those stores.

That's my fault, I should have thrown a spoiler tag and used the black boxes.

GameStop has their use especially for towns like mine where they're the only option for consoles. I'd like to keep my money within the city but when stores pull this kind of thing to force you to shop, I have no problems giving my business to online options

That reminds me, I gotta check on my PowerupRewards points. I usually wait 'til I have $20 worth of used game money, then spend it.

Make sure you keep track of your points. I wonder if they pulled this before and I just never noticed.
