Another Game Off Mount Backlog: Sleeping Dogs Definitive Edition

On Saturday I felt it was time to finish off Sleeping Dogs (actually I just happened to click on the stats and saw that I was only a couple of missions away from finishing the main game) so I spent maybe a couple of hours finishing off the last couple of missions instead of running around doing all the random side missions, and finding the heath shrines. Overall the game was fun. It was a poor man's Grand Theft Auto set in Hong Kong with a lot of wrong way driving. There were some issues with the game but there were some positives.

The story wasn't that bad. I got attached to some characters and I felt the need for in the words of Sterling Archer....RAMPAGE! Oh it was fun and it wasn't as GTA. I liked that most of the fighting involved martial arts with a lot of countering. It would have been a lot more fun if I was able to walk into some of those fights with a weapon. Side missions were fun and the developers handled the dating feature much better than the ones I've tried in GTA IV and San Andreas where it was a lot of work. Here it was one date, do something simple and then you're rewarded with some sleezely Skinamax music and then the date unlocks the locations of the hidden items like Health Shrines, Money cases, and statues. One of my favorites is the races. It brought a little Fast and Furious into the game with races throughout the city. A bit of a spoiler: if you can use a police vehicle and race with the lights on. Cars move out of your way.

The negatives I encountered were the handling of vehicles could be better (A LOT BETTER). Some vehicles felt like I was driving on ice, while others felt like quicksand. Someplace in between would have been fine. I encountered a glitch at the end where the machine gun sound kept playing during the second half of the final mission, and aiming your weapon needs work.

I'm currently playing through the Year of the Snake which is ok, except it would have been nice to be able to use the items I unlocked within single player, but I guess it's supposed to be almost like a stand alone game like Saints Row's Gat out of Hell. I don't know if I'm going to play the Zombie DLC because the whole Zombie craze is just stupid but it is the Halloween season so I might give it a try. I don't know if I want to finish up finding all the hidden items and play through the secondary stuff in the main game. I finished the main story, the cop cases, and I have a handful of races left. I'm unsure if I want to tackle the favors and other randoms like fight 20 guys with weapons and other items like that. I did see that you get a trophy for killing a man with a fish, and I'd like to give that a whirl. Anyways Sleeping Dogs is a fun game, and worth the $8 I paid for it. It had some problems, but overall the experience was good and I got to go all RAMPAGE so I give it an A-.

Other games I'm playing

I want to finish the main storyline in GTA V but I can't get the prompt to appear. Either I went too fast, or something happened when I added a car mod, but for now I'm just rolling around Los Santos and super jumping onto buildings.

I think the next game I'll tackle is to finally finish Rise of the Tomb Raider. I'm nowhere near the end but I did buy this game during the Summer Sale and since I invested $30 I should finish the dang thing.

Alright Pixlpeeps I am off. Have a good week!

That's all for now, more later!

Were you playing Sleeping Dogs on console or PC? Just curious. I love the game, and it's not normally a genre I play. And yes, you do need that trophy, I had a hard time getting it, the easiest place is in the club that has the aquarium, by the way. I think one of my favorite things was carjacking armored trucks.

I love carjacking in games. I had a ball with that in Crackdown.

Funny thing about this game is that I didn't do a lot of that. At one point you're given a valet so whenever I needed a car I just called him up.

I own the game on PS3 and 360 (I think I got the vanilla copies on sale) but I finished Definitive Edition on PC. I was hoping there would be some mods but apparently there are none. Oh well, it was still fun. Oh ok I'll try the club in a bit for that trophy. I thought it was one of the big hanging fish in one of the warehouses I needed to get, but shooting out the aquarium might be the way to go. Once I finish Year of the Snake (hope its over soon) I'll hit the armored trucks.

You can do it in the warehouses, but it's easier to shoot out the aquarium (and more fun!).

Well I don't know what happened but after finishing Year of the Snake, the game erased my previous saves and I can't get back to the regular game. Looks like I'm not going to get that trophy now unless I play it again, which I won't do, so it was fun while it lasted but now I'm on to something new...or maybe finishing up something I was currently playing.

Well that's disappointing! Jason is still laughing at my unholy glee while playing Sleeping Dogs and my happily informing him that I just got a trophy for killing a guy with a fish.

Haven't played the game, but honestly I findunfair calling this a poor man's clone since that implies it's a cheap copy trying to ride the coats of its influence, which I feel Sleeping Dogs isn't. There's also the fact that this one was going to be the third True Crime game, but after its cancellation by Activision, Square-Enix picked the rights and its dev and pretty much made Sleeping Dogs.

But I digress, I am definitely interested in playing Sleeping Dogs.

I stand by calling it a poor man's GTA. It really didn't bring anything new to the table or improve on the sandbox games, and in some cases it fell flat. I wish it was better because there are some aspects where it could have been great especially with the story, a new setting, and the one thing I did feel it improved on is having the date missions be just one mission.

That's my opinion, I had fun with the game but I felt there could have been more.
