PixlDump: Collection Outside of Gaming, and an Orth Aside

Collection of Irrelevance

God news, we picked up a new van for my dad! So the car situation at least goes back to where it was, minus that he's borrowing my car for this afternoon.

I had nothing to say today really, and I was going to post this part of an Excel spreadsheet I made to document what I did and didn't have (left that part out) of my CD cases, lyric sheets and CDs as a draft for me to see anyway, so if you're curious what I own outside of games, here you go. Should be about seventy-nine CDs. I was thinking of uploading these as "Playstation games" and my DVDs as "Playstation 2 games" in my collection on here, since those consoles can play those mediums, but I like the cool, lucky number I have for games I own (37) and these are not games anyway.

If you're wondering what DVDs I own, they are

Cinderella Man (kind of; it is my favorite movie, and was gifted to my dad at some point, then I asked him for it for my birthday, and he told me it was already in the house, so borrow it any time)

Cowboy Bebop: The Movie (bought at Blockbuster)

Hugo (won at my work's White Elephant Gift Exchange last Christmas)

Linkin Park: Frat Party at the Pankake Festival (Christmas gift one year)

The Dark Knight Rises (Christmas gift last year)

The Cinema Snob Movie (wound up being free, straight from the director, after being sent two dead discs by the distribution co. they used, Kunaki; Kunaki did refund my money, though, so can't be too upset, though it was around Christmas, and I hate to think of how people trying to gift the thing felt)

Yeah, I don't download, yet only ever paid for one movie I own, and only ever expected to pay for two. Weird, huh? Don't worry, there's a lot more movies around the house, they're just not mine. I'll build that collection, as well as others (how cheap are PS3s these days?), when I get out of my student loan debt, erratic job, still living with my parents despite a Magna Cum Laude Bachelor's Degree and managerial experience situation. Yeah, the 21st century sucks. I blame Hoover. Not the President, the vacuum company; if they hadn't sold Orth one that requires buffering to work, Orth would have never been infuriated enough to tell his Wall Street friends (well, they're arrogant and dumb too, so I'm guessing they're all chummy) to do all this crap; and according to his Twitter feed, he's still pissed. Gee, thanks Hoover.

Also, I did not know this, but apparently Windows phones have spotty and unreliable service, as evidenced by Orth's comments about phones. They also need to be online at all times to work, where on my current phone, I can play Sonic CD no matter what state the 3G or Wi-Fi is in. Man, if I had to turn Wi-Fi on to make a phone call, I'd be an incoherent rage monster, too. That sounds awful! Poor guy.

Wait a second... a machine that feels the need to be always on....

Well, actually I kind of would like a personal HAL 3000, that might come in handy if I can coax a couple pesky neighbors into my house, then tell them I forgot something outside. We'll see where this goes.

As for books, I'm working on it. They're still all over the place in my room, even after Spring Cleaning, and there are a lot of them. When I have that figured out, I'll probably upload that, too, if you're interested.

This blog is happening whether you're interested or not though, because I just felt like sharing it. I do this shit for free, you quit your bitchin' about lack of game-related material!

I've labeled where I got them if it was a special deal, KSAU is the radio station I DJ'd for that had old CDs we could sometimes take or give away, and Hastings near my college had a metal sale when I was going, so I got those for around $5 and a couple free t-shirts out of it.

As you can see, there's a heavy lean towards heavy and alternative rock music, but there's pop (well, pop-rock anyway), rap, folk, and soul in there too. See if you can spot those.

I forgot to add the stuff I own digitally on my iPod, as follows:

Dethklok: Dethalbum II ... still missing two songs cause of a screwy download; in a very sad trun of events, one of those was "Murmaider II"

Eminem: "We Made You" (music video)

The Black Keys: "Things Ain't Like They Used To Be"

Finally, I just got done watching a DVR recording of Conan from April 3rd, and I usually don't like country, but this guy was really good, in my opinion, so I'll leave you with him:

Apparently, it is a cover of someone named Si Robertson/Old Crow, or so I gather from the comments on the video. Anyway, it's raining here in Texas, so it fit with the atmosphere I'm in today. Have a good one!

Edit: Actually, here are a couple songs I heard the other night on The Adventure Club while I was driving around.

i just don't listen to enough metal.  But if I started, my parents would think something was wrong with me.  I guess I'm stuck!

I've never seen cinderella man. But I'm curious you have the Cowboy Bebop movie -- I didn't like it, but I loved the series.  have u seen that?

The series is definitely better, but I enjoyed the movie as well. I really like the opening scene and song, too, even if it's not "Tank!"

I can vouch for Cinderella Man.  A real contender for best sports movie of all time.

(Yes, I said "contender" about this boxing movie).

Yup. Considering it's my favorite, it kind of automatically becomes my favorite sports movie of all time.

Old Crow has a heavenly voice!

I've never heard his version , may check that out.

Well Darius is no joke either. I also took to the music video. I used to have "wander lust" too but it was in my 20's. I'm too old for that now. lol. Actually, we're never "too old" but I've found a pretty comfortable place to rest my bones. (For now)

Reason Darius Rucker is so good is he has soul in his voice. I even liked him with Hootie And The Blowfish. You have some great CD's,lots of Metallica! That's always good. Megadeth is awesome, too. Like your movies as well. Especially Cowboy Bebop. Saw that at the theater on an enormous screen. Very cool indeed I thought. The red ring pic scared me! I have visions of my next Microsoft console watching me at night. All fun and games til it becomes "self aware" and decides that humans are flawed creatures. Good news about finding wheels for your Dad. Hope they keep rolling for a long time to come.

I didn't know he was in Hootie and the Blowfish, which is particularly embarassing since he was the lead singer, but then again I'm pretty ignorant about people in bands in general if their popularity came before the early 2000s/ late 1990s. Thanks for showing me the light, so to speak.

And yeah, I have lots of Metallica cause they were by far my favorite band in high school, got me into guitar and were for me a gateway into a lot of music I hadn't paid attention to before, not just metal. And Megadeth appealed to me as underdogs, plus they're just awesome. Very glad I got to see both of those bands live.

I had a chance to see Bebop at a nearby screen, but didn't find anyone to go with. I should have just gone, but I dunno. Caught it at the neighbor's on cable later, and loved the first few scenes so much I bought it the next time I saw it at Blockbuster.

I don't have an XBOX of any kind, but I do sometimes think Windows XP is planning to drive me insane. Its plan usually works. Hopefully, this is not taken to the logical extreme.

And good news and bad news, as there are some things on it that need fixing, hence why he's got mine. Still, certain weight has been lifted by the fact we won't have to debate who gets to go into work what day.

I usually don't like "Greatest Hits" albums because most of the time they don't even have all their best songs on them. Iron Maiden has like 30 of them lol. I have a ton of cds (mostly metal) and especially movies. Nice collection though.

I love Greatest Hits albums for bands I might not pick up an individual album for, but have enjoyed several songs on the radio from. Saves me money.I know what you mean, though. I'd rather just have Bad Religion's entire discography; I'm still kicking myself for not jumping at the vinyl collection they had when Dissent of Man was new.

Wagon Wheel is (mostly, see below) by Old Crow Medicine Show.  It's not a person but a band,  with kind of a modern bluegrass/alt-country sound.  I like alot of their stuff, but this song in particular is great.  I think it helps that it mentions the city where I live-Raleigh, NC!

I didn't know this until I just read on Wikipedia while making sure that I was correct about OCMS writing it, but it was orginally "sketched" by Bob Dylan, but apparantly he just did the chorus and OCMS picked it up and wrote a full song around it.

Super Step Contributing Writer

Man, I'd love to just write lyrics and choruses for people. Don't know if Dylan was ever compensated for the song, but I know he's simply written for quite a few people. Wouldn't mind that job; well, I say that, I need to actually write songs to back it up, so I guess I'll get on that.

Someday, I will catalog all my CDs, but it will take a long time, as I think I have around 300 at this point. Vast amounts of DVDs, too, but only four blurays.

Super Step Contributing Writer

04/10/2013 at 09:27 PM

If I had as many CDs and DVDs as I wanted, I'd have thousands. I just need more money in general. lol

I also see that you're a Bad Religion fan.  I used to love them long ago (damn, I just looked up the years their albums came out...I'm getting old).  I haven't really listened to much since Stranger Than Fiction.  I thought the Grey Race was decent and No Substance had a few good songs, but for whatever reason those albums kind of turned me off as a big fan.  I can't really say why they turned me off because I haven't listened to those two albums in a long time, but I still listen to and enjoy their older albums every now and then.

What's your opinion of their last few albums?  I've actually kind of meant to listen to them for awhile now, but haven't gotten around to it.  I'm kind of scared that I won't like them.

Super Step Contributing Writer

04/10/2013 at 09:24 PM

A lot of people don't like the direction they took once Gurrewitz left, starting with The Grey Race, I believe, up until Process of Belief, so you're not alone there. I honestly love No Substance, and some of the New America stuff is my favorite, but that's just me.

Honestly, pretty much all of their full albums are easily found on Youtube. I'd say of the newest ones, The Empire Strikes First and Process of Belief are the best bets. I like all of their stuff for one reason or another, but overall I'd say Empire Strikes First is your safest bet as a fan of their old stuff. Not a guarantee, but that seems to be the consensus, generally.

My personal favorite from them is No Control, if that gives you a sense of my taste.

Hastings! I miss that damn place. We had a good one there in San Marcos. They always had an impressive collection of anime and foreign movies for rent. I also got a lot of good music in the used section. Best Buy has cut their music section down 50%, can't find shit. There is a mom & pop place a couple of blocks from where I live, but they mostly deal in vinyl records, there cd selection is modest and badly managed. Getting most of my music from Amazon these days. I would not even attempt to list all my albums, you notice I still have not filled in my music taste on my home page here, lol. At last count which was about 4 years ago I had, I think 187 cds. Easily added 25 or 30 since then.

Super Step Contributing Writer

04/10/2013 at 09:49 PM

Yeah, Hastings is awesome.

I was actually surprised how few CDs I owned, I was like "it's under one-hundred?!" I don't think I'm missing anything on here though, as far as CDs I SHOULD have.Still upset I can't find the Spider-Man soundtrack. ... speaking of which, why the hell is that not on my list?! lol Looks like I found an error.

You're SO lucky...

I saw your Metallica CD's, but I wasn't seeing ....And Justice For All the first time I looked. Luckily though I found it on the list, so this newfound friendship can and will continue now. LOL

Seriously though, I'm a HUGE Metallica fan. I saw them live back in '03 and it was simply amazing. It's hard to express how I felt that day, but it was such a positive vibe!

Super Step Contributing Writer

04/11/2013 at 03:40 PM

Yeah, I decided to get their entire studio album discography in high school, and continued with Death Magnetic my Freshman year of college. I still want to get Garage Inc., cause I do love their covers, but every time I see it I'm just like "I don't have $20 for this right this second," and there's usually something right next to it that's on sale that I really want, like Foster the People's CD when I bought it.

Saw them at Ozzfest in '08, also a very positive vibe. Funny that you saw them the year St. Anger came out, and I saw them the year Death Magnetic came out. What are the odds we both saw them the year of an album release? lol

My personal favorite by them is Ride the Lightning, overall, but Justice is amazing.
