Pixlpeeps what is up? It is a nice day here in Southern California and I decided to have a special Quick Hits on Thursday instead of Friday because I am going to be really busy. Sound like fun? Good. Before I get started I wanted to wish you good folk to have an awesome weekend! Let's get started.

The Presidential Election

Before I get started with this hot button topic let me give you my stance. I don't give a rat's a** on who you voted for. That comes down to personal preference, experience, and point of view. My opinion can be very different from someone else and that is ok. My one problem is when people complain about everything under the sun and guess what they didn't vote. Voting is important. People fought, and died for this right. Hell today people around the world are fighting for this privilege and people here don't take advantage of it. It's crazy.

This was the line on Tuesday. Like I said on Facebook, where was this line during the last election? That line was literally me and the guy running the polling place. Now all of a sudden everyone wants to vote. GOOD! I hope that the next election the line I stand in is twice as long. Anyways after waiting close to 40 minutes it was my turn to vote and since I had all my answers on my phone I was in and out in under 10 minutes.

Seriously my county needs better stickers. Some places got huge stickers, stickers shaped as states, stickers in different languages, and I get the same oval stickers from my first election.

Chris Listens To...

I started going through my mp3 collection that currently lives on a bunch of CD-R's in a binder. These are the ones I've had since college, and wow I found some interesting stuff. Many of the mp3s are of songs that I have eventually replaced on CD, and 90% of it is stuff that I wouldn't add to my current iTunes library because they were ripped in a low bitrate (128ish?) so they don't sound that good, but it was fun to take that stroll down memory lane.

I thought about adding some old podcasts to my iTunes library. I have old Buzz Out Loud episodes along with Adam Carolla, and some random video game podcasts. It might be fun to go back and listen to what folks thought about the latest and greatest in PS2 games, or talking about old tech.

I filled up my iPod Touch with Christmas music, a couple of audiobooks, and about three thousand songs I haven't rated yet. I'm trying something new where every night I'll listen to about 10 new songs before I go to sleep while I'm reading Twitter, or a book. If I don't want to listen to anything new I can just listen to Christmas music or audiobooks before I fall asleep.

Pickups

Games

From Humble Bundle they are giving this game away for free. If you don't own it, its only available for 48 hours so go add a copy to your Steam library!

Music

I went back to the mom and pop and picked up more CDs. Since Christmas is close they brought out the Christmas CDs. The best part is they were still $1.99 so I added some to the library along with other albums.

Apparently the American Gladiators is the one after most of the first cast was gone so the into music is different. I bought it thinking it was still the same music. As for Jock Jam I thought this was the one I needed to complete my collection but I already owned it. That's what I get for not checking my list.

Motown was actually still in shrink wrap. I took the picture after I ripped the CD

Turns out I already own that Destiny's Child CD (I really need to look at my list), and the Beyonce visual album won't let me rip the audio portion to iTunes, and I won't buy it on iTunes Store.

Alright Pixlpeeps I am off. Have a good weekend Pixlbit!

That's all for now, more later!

-Chris

I voted by mail and a week early. I wasn't enthusiastic about it at all and I wasn't surprised by the outcome either. I do agree that you can't sit on the sidelines and get to bitch about things after. The thing that frightens me right now is how quickly all of that orange goo's vitriol and racism has become normalized by the media. I honestly don't even know what to read anymore. Social Media is an echo chamber. Mainstream media has already moved on with the "New Era" and are capitalizing on everyones grief. There is also a lack of voices and point of view from POC and other minority groups in the media-- groups that will be most harshly impacted by the fascist America elected. It will be 4 years of hell!!! Maybe 8 if the left can find it's backbone fast enough. It won't! We've been through this scenario before and a lot of people died for pointless reasons.

I helped my grandfather vote by mail but I like walking into the polling place and going through the motions. The vibe of standing in a little box drawing lines (my county is full on paper ballots.) Its interesting you see the media like that because my view is the media has been leaning left throughout the elections. At this point I no longer watch national news, I watch local news (small town has its pluses), I see what people are talking about on Twitter, and I added a liberal podcast to my podcast playlist to go along with my conservative podcast. I figured between them I can kind of get an objective take.

I've been telling people to calm down, the guy isn't in office yet and we don't know how he is going to be. He can surround himself with people who can be really good, and so far from the release of his plan for the first 100 days has items like term limits on Congress which I really like and McConnell does not. He has dug himself a huge hole with the things he's said but just like every President before him, I'll give him a shot. If he fails then in four years we have another election and hopefully the elections from this point on will have lines.

I, too, like to walk in and do my voting in the little booth on Election Day. I went in early and was in and out in ten minutes from the time I walked into the high school gym until I walked out. I think it took me longer to find a parking space. I heard that from about 9:30 on, it was taking people about an hour.

I wonder if he'll get along with his republican congress or fight with them. That, at least, should be interesting.

I tease my friend Mark about the Cowboys being America's team. He hates that, as do most Eagles fans. I just think it's funny.

I wonder about that as well. I can see certain issues they will but for other things like having term limits they will probably fight him on it. There are a lot of career politicans who don't want to lose their jobs.

A couple of folks I know who are Eagles fans hate that the Cowboys are called America's Team. Because of that I only refer to Dallas as America's Team Tongue Out

I think the rivalry must've started in the 90s when the Cowboys were so good and Philly wasn't. Well, their defense was good but they couldn't put it all together to make a run at the Super Bowl.

I voted early.

What disgusted me is some of the posts I've read on Facebook.  I knew I shouldn't have visited Facebook after the election, but I wanted to post a link to a new GamerDad.com review and didn't think about it.  Some of the stuff my Facebook friends were posting was so insulting, it was very shameful and uncalled for.  I kept my mouth shut and didn't say anything, but it was hard.

Mainstream media is so one-sided nowadays, too.

You're preaching to the choir about Facebook. It seemed like everyone regardless of party preference had an opinion. What was the most frustrating thing was people my age who never voted all of a sudden became political and posted tons of stories, opinions, etc. Where was this energy in previous elections? It's like a bandwagon in sports, no opinion one day, and the next apparently they became hardcore fans. I think some were doing it just go along with the wave. Just like you and a couple of friends who I know follow the stuff, I kept my mouth shut let them throw out whatever nonsense they needed to get off their chest and that was that. I also made use of the feature to hide posts.

I agree that media is leaning, that's why I like local news (thank you small town.) The majority of their stuff is news around the area, and like I wrote in replying to Asreal, I like Twitter because people are voicing their opinions. You might not agree with those opinions but I want to see what other people think.

I'm with you, Chris. Taking a wait and see attitude but ready to stand up and speak out if I feel I need to. I live in an area with a lot of Somali refugees, people I like and respect, and it bothers me that there was so much hate being spewed during the campaign.

Do you have Harry Belafonte's Christmas album? It's called To Wish You a Merry Christmas. It's one of my favorites.
