Being Broke in Summer Sucks

Firstly, it's just hit Summer in Australia, and it's fucking hot. Like 37 degrees celsius, which  is 99 degrees farenheit.  And our A/C is broke atm.

Secondly, I'm broke a/f. Bought Bilby's Christmas present early (pokemon sun) and have to pay roughly 1k on car registration and then save up to go on a trip to house-sit for Bilby's grandmother. At least she has A/C and a pool.

Anyway, to take my mind off it, I decided to watch Donald Glover's new show Atlanta, which isn't helping since that show is literally all about being broke. It's a damn good show though. It's funny, smart, and incredibly depressing. It's like if Louie were about black culture.

Other than that, I've been playing some games. Dragon Quest VIII is the shit. It keeps making me smile and it looks really good on a PS2 emulator at 1080p. Like it could be a PS3 game almost. It's amazing how much of a difference resolution and AA makes on some of these games:

I also got Final Fantasy XIV, Final Fantasy IX, Digimon Cyber Slueth, God of War III and Tales of Zestiria on sale. Digimon seems pretty good so far. Firstly, no it is not a pokemon rip-off. It's a Shin Megami Tensei ripoff with some Grandia elements. The combat system is actually pretty interesting, with you exploiting enemy weaknesses and killing off enemies based on turn order to get extra turns and whatnot. It's pretty fun and there seems like a lot to do in it.

Final Fantasy XIV has it's hooks in me hard. I'm a sucker for a good MMO, and this is a fucking good one. There's so much to do in it! I love the crafting system, I love the hunting log, and I LOVE that I can switch out my class on a whim to any other and level them all with one class and mix and match skills. My favourite thing though? It has tutorials that teach you how to play your role properly in dungeons, and those tutorials are incentivised through awesome looking armour and xp. It teaches you how to keep enemies attacking you if you're a tank, which enemies you should be attavking if you're dps and not aggroing enemies you shouldn't be. It's awesome and I wish every MMO did this.

And yeah, that's what I've been up to so far.

I miss Final Fantasy XIV.  Maybe after I finish XV I'll need the fix.

in the past I've played on PC, but I also played on PS3.  I'm not sure if I would get the PS4 version or play on PC again.  What do you play on?

Well, let me finish XV and then maybe I'll jump in again. Once you get that taste of FF, it's like crack and hard to give up.

I played FF14 since Beta. I thought it played well on PS4 and PC, controller works fine. It's one of my favorite FF games, mostly because it modernized classic old school FANTASY, major departure from current main series that is more futuristic. I thought about getting back in when new Expansion drops next year. I also need to go through Heavensward Expansion. Haven't played the game in over a year, but when there is a gaming lull is perfect.

If you want a sillier urban poverty, depression comedy, you might like 'Black Jesus'. It's like the movie 'Friday' with Ice Cube, but also like the cartoon Boondocks about black kids, if you ever watched that.

Hot damn almost 100 degrees. Throw broken AC on top of that and damn. I haven't seen any of Atlanta, but that might be one the shows I "discover" during the summer when there's nothing good on television.

I love some DQ VIII, but I'm not interested much in playing the 3DS remake. I mean, maybe I am, but I feel that game needs to be on a big screen.

Im still trying to get fully settled in my new living space. I like it, however winter has pretty much arrived so its cold, super cold. I wish I could bypass this an go to Spring. Ill be playing Dragon Quest 8 next year on 3DS. I still enjoy 7 but Im stuck in the past at the Abbey.

I got a few games from sales these last few weeks

Skyrim, Batman collection, Dragon Quest Builders, and Monster Hunter Generations.

I'll gladly swap you the winter for the spring! I can't stand the heat, as I spent the past 4 years living somewhere much colder.

 What's DQ Builders like?

Its pretty much minecraft with a storymode and free mode. Ive been enjoying it of course, the storymode is broken into chapters and each one you rebuild a town.  One of the things that I would say is a negative is you lose alot of the recipes when you go to new chapters. I think they did this of course to introduce new materials and recipes as time goes. They unlock in free mode which is endless from what Ive been told. I havent played free mode since I've been working on the story. Overall I think they did a fantastic job with it.

I'm in Cali so even though it's winter here, it's probably warmer than most of the world's autumn. Not that I'm complaining though, I love living where I can run to the gym every day of the year. Being broke does suck, hated it two years ago. Now I have an okay job for living at home though, but really need something better. Hopefully I get it soon.

I put over 100 hours into Dragon Quest VIII. And yeah, that game looks amazing.

I also put in a lot of time into FFXIV on PS3 last year and the year before. Love that game. Ranked up all the way to the level cap at 50 (at the time). I will most definitely be getting back into it on PS4 when the new expansion launches next summer.

I'm playing Dragon Quest VII (3DS).  I'm about 40hrs in.  I played DQ8 (PS2) years ago and didn't finished it.  If it gets an 3DS US release, I'll pick it up and finish it.

Damn, I missed that.  Thanks for the heads up.  I still hadn't finished DQ7 and after that I plan to play SMT4: Apocalypse on the 3DS next.  I may just beat DQ7 and then go right into DQ8.

Christmas in Summer, eh?

Well, as long as you consider Die Hard a Christmas movie, I'll allow it.

I have been wanting to watch Atlanta.
