Really dig the cartridge artwork, once again. Nice that someone still gives out an award to the PS Vita.

Greetings Pixlbit and Welcome to the Fourth Annual Chris Goes All Awards Show. I almost forgot that the year is almost over and before I get caught up in the rush of finding gifts for people and wrapping things I might as well get my awards show going. This year wasn't as active as last year because I think I played longer games, and stuck playing those games instead of jumping from one game to the next. The question will be will any game top this favorite from last year

This past season I played through a total of twenty ninie games and going full 100% on four of them (based off of unlocking all available awards and achievements for the main game.) So sit back, play some Christmas music (psst. Kacey Musgraves' A Very Kacey Christmas is on repeat on the phone) and enjoy some Awards Show magic!
Favorite PS4 Game
Of course it has to be a Lego game. Lego Dimensions was a game I was excited about because it combined the physical toys with your typical Lego video game. The licenses that Lego had also added to the excitement because where else can you use Homer Simpson, Mr. T, and Marty McFly in a level based on The Wizard of Oz? The portal accommodates any combination of seven figures. At times my party was 6 figures and one vehicle and the game is fine with swapping out figures during game play.
Granted Lego Dimensions took a fun turn on micro-transactions by charging players for figures they use but instead of having a skin for a weapon or clothing, you get an actual Lego minifigure with an in game vehicle. Lego Dimensions also kept the original game fresh by providing add-on levels and new content. The best part of the deal is that Lego has also dropped the price of the starter pack and has a lot of sales for their Fun, Level, and Team packs.
My second place game would have to be Need for Speed. This racing game took on a new feel with a first person view of the story mode as you become an up and coming racer in what feels like Los Angeles. The first person cut scenes were a little cheesy but it added to the fun of the game. The environment was excellent and I enjoyed racing around the city. I also believe this was the first racing game on the PS4 that I earned a Platinum Trophy.
Favorite PS Vita Game
I know this wasn't a favorite game for some folks but I really enjoyed playing through the story mode on this version of Mortal Kombat. What I liked about it was that it took the same fight style from games like InJustice where you use different characters to progress through the story mode of your typical fight for Earth through an Enter the Dragon like tournament. What I liked was that overall the story mode remained unchanged between the console and the handheld. I liked this game so much I now own it on PC.
My second favorite game on the Vita is MLB The Show. I haven't finished a season because I vowed to play the same game on both the PS4 and Vita. I believe I had to wait a bit before buying the Vita digital copy because I waited for a price drop especially because it was a digital code inside a physical game case. I thought there might have been a physical copy.
Favorite 3DS Game
I only finished one game this year on the 3DS so this game wins by default. DOA Dimensions is a fun fighting game where the story mode is a collection of all the random fighters heading to a tournament on a cruise ship. At times the game felt like it dragged because the individual character's stories varied on interest. I did however enjoy trying to connect combos as well as just good old fashion button mashing. I wish I could tell you what the bottom screen was for but I think I did use it a couple of times.
My second favorite has to be Madden just for their five on five mode with 5 Mississippi sack mode. It combined a bit of Blitz, and backyard football. It didn't take itself too seriously, the controls were simple, and it was a fun relaxed version of Madden.
Favorite PC/Steam Game
There were quite a few games that could have been in this section but I really enjoyed Brothers A Tale of Two Sons. While playing it on the 360 I lost interest but playing it on the PC made the game feel new and enjoyable. Even thought the game was short I got caught up within the story. It felt more like a movie at times when I was getting anxious during some sections of the game.
My second favorite game has to be Grand Theft Auto V. If I would have finished Brothers on 360, there would be no doubt that GTA V would be my favorite Steam/PC game. The addition of modding alone made this game brand new to me and I enjoyed rolling around Los Santos in special cars and having special weapons.
And now time for my Game of the Year...
There was really no competition on the best game I played this year. As much as I liked the various games I played through the story alone brings this game the trophy. Not many games get to me and this one did while playing through it and during the end of the game I remember kept saying damn. It might not have been everyone's favorite, but to me this game was worth the play through, and I don't think I want to play through it again. I just want to have that initial experience I had with the game and leave it at that*.
*Black Box Reason with spoilers.
During the game you control both characters with the left and right joysticks and at the end of the game when its just one brother having control of just one brother got to me. As crazy as it sounds that moment brought over this melancholy feeling because I honestly felt bad for a character in a video game. Because of this I don't play through the game again.
Well there you have it Pixlbit, my picks for my little awards show. Thank you for reading through my ramblings and putting up with me. Here's to 2017 and here's to more games we play, and complete. It's not Friday but there's no way I'm going to end this entry without some Christmas Music.
C'mon now of course it was going to be a Kacey Musgraves song
That's all for now, more later!
-Chris
