There's a heavy DC theme here...

Ok I’m going to stop apologising for not regularly blogging, I keep saying I’ll start being more frequent but let’s face it I’m the blogging equivalent of an alcoholic and abusive husband, who spends his wives money down the betting shop. I say I’ll change but they’re just words, when it comes down to it.

Ok I’m writing this brief little update because a few things have arisen that have gotten me excited. DARK SOULS II! If you haven’t seen it, I’ll try embed the video below. Basically From Software did a ten minute video presentation with IGN. It looked good, I’m not sure if it fixes any issues that anyone else had with the first game but for me the first was near enough perfection. My only gripe was the frame-rate in certain areas and the video did highlight that in certain areas, the consoles may struggle.

Just incase that doesn't work, here's the URL. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z_JFDPCtXFY

Second thing I’m excited about? Injustice: Gods Among Us! I really don’t see the lasting appeal of fighting games. I really struggled with Marvel vs Capcom 3, the combo system made it very hard for me to accomplish anything within the game and thus made me lose interest. So obviously Injustice wasn’t really on my radar. That was until I saw the cool things they were doing with the story. As a massive DC fan, any cool story line involving my favourite characters is going to get me hooked. So then the demo comes out, I download, boot it up and ‘SHAZAM!’. The game’s fun and that’s the main thing to take away from this, it plays very similar to MK9, which is understandable when you look at the success Nether Realm Studios had with that game.

Games I’ve been playing? Errm I’ve been re-playing Arkham Asylum (I’m on a massive DC hype ATM), there’s part of me that prefers it to Arkham City. The story and setting just resonate more with me. Whoah Arkham Origins was announced! Another thing I’m excited for. I’m not too fussed that it’s not being made by Rocksteady. I just feel that if WB Studios follow the formula, it’s going to at least be half decent. Honestly the idea of playing as the bat before he’s become so bad ass intrigues me. Year One is one of my favourite Batman books and the reason I prefer Batman is his vulnerability. That’s really all I’ve had time for recently gaming wise.

So Community is getting better, they’ve had four really good funny episodes in a row. So that’s been cool cool cool. #SixSeasonsandaMovie could still be a thing, if they keep the quality of the show up. Game of Thrones is back on and well that’s been quality as well, both the episodes thus far have been nothing more than re-introductions to all the characters but considering the large cast, I’m ok with that.

Like I mentioned briefly earlier, I’ve been on a massive DC hype. Injustice has really got me back in the mood to catch up with some the New 52 story arcs. I purchased Batman vol 1 & 2, of Scott Snyder’s re-imaging of the caped crusader. I’ve heard a lot of great things about them and can’t wait to get stuck in. I loved Scott’s work on American Vampire and Batman: Black Mirror. He’s one of the most talented comic book writers out there. If anyone could recommend some Superman books to me that would be great. I’ve been meaning to give him a second chance. He’s by no means my favourite hero but his lore and back story is one of the better ones. I’m looking to invest in him a bit more.

Your links worked for me, but here it is again.

I would be excited about Dark Souls 2... but I still need to play the first game. I'm scared lol. I played the demo of Injustice. Man that game is fun. I'm definitely looking forward to that one.

Fear seems to be a factor for most people not touching it. The difficulty is part of the learning curve, dying is as much part of the game as anything else.

I'm a huge DC fan (though i own more marvel books, wierd), I prefer Arkham City to Asylum probably because it was less confind.Cool

Injustice...eh? It's alright, i'm okay with Wonder Woman though i haven't got the hang of the environmental stuff yet, i didn't find it as easy to grasp as MK for some reason so i guess this is a bargin buy for later i'm afraid.Frown

McC3 was bad from the start anyway, to was too user friendly the controls slipper and really isn't skill based IMO (the same problem I have with SFxT).Undecided

I liked the way Snyder Started out but i've got event Fatigue, unlike Black Mirror and before the reboot when things where better broken up the but that was in Detective new 52 his Batman is just one thing after another and i'm just exhasted Detective by Layman is a prefered pass till it got sucked into all those said events. I don't prefer one Bat-book to the other really but now i'm reading none (plus the Robin Origins piss me right off).Frown

I have high hopes for Arkham Origins, ex-retro guys are a talented bunch, i like the suit too Smile

I've tried learning some combos on injustice.. I suck, luckily you can do a load of cool stuff by button mashing,

As for the new 52 stuff, I've not read any of it yet. I've heard good things about Snyder's batman. So heck, I'll see what I think of them!

Easier way to embed is just to copy the link, then hit the button that looks like a piece of film, and paste in there where it says to. I don't know if copy/pasting the embed code into the blog itself really works; maybe if you're in HTML view?

Anyway, former Retro people working on Batman sounds awesome, as does a fighting game with a story involving DC characters. Is it just me though, or is there something kind of "meh" from a graphical standpoint about Injustice? I just feel it could look a lot better than what I've seen, but haven't played the demo, so can't judge.

I should probably watch Community and read more comic books, but that's a little like you saying you should blog more. I want to, but whether or not it happens is anyone's guess. lol

Thanks for the advice pal, I tend to steer clear of inputting media into my blogs but it's nice to do so every now and again.

I kind of agree with you on Injustice. There are a lot of things that seem to be lazy about the game development. For example, no tag battles. Which seems odd to me. Graphically it looks ok and does a decent enough job though. I'm all for gameplay over graphics and it seems to have that in spades.

Hey Community is absolute class in places, it takes a while to get there (end of season 1 and season 2 being personal highlights) but it's full of pop culture goodness, which I'm all for.

If nether-realm keeps making good fighters with good story lines I'll keep playing them! I'm rather excited about Injustice as well!

I've beat Arkham city and I still want to go back and explore Asylum someday. I think it'll be worth the price of omission for the Scare-crow segment alone!

Yeah the scarecrow segments are an absolute treat and a welcome diversion. I managed to get Asylum for £3 during the Xbox LIVE sale they did at Christmas. Maybe it will drop to a similar price soon!?

Injustice can't come soon enough!
