A Tale of Two Fantasies

Well Pixlbitallion, Christmas has come and gone and soon the blighted year that was 2016 will be no more.

It was a bitter sweet year for me. On the one hand I landed a new job that pays well and is fun to go to every day.  On the other we've lost some great people and an unspeakable, illiterate scumbag is poised to become the next POTUS.

But I digress,

Over that last month or so I've been spending lots of money on games and two of those were World of Final Fantasy and Final Fantasy XV.

I swore up and down that I would not buy the latter and originally thought the former would be a dumbed down kiddy Final Fantasy.

I got talked into XV by several friends comments and the WoFF demo convinced me to try out that game on both Vita and PS4.

I've spent 38 hours on WoFF so far and I love it. FF XV I will not say much about until I have well more than the two hours I've put in so far

I will probably get WoFF eventually when it's on sale. FFXV gets much better once you reach the first dungeon, IMO.

WoFF has been such a pleasant surprise for me. The strategy in forming your stacks, the catching monsters pokemon style and levelling them up. Having them able to transfigure into more powerful monsters and then back again if you need to. After a short while the Pop figure characters become just part of the landscape.

Well worth a purchase for any RPG fan.

This year truely has been a hell raiser. I kind of wonder if there is anyway next year can be better. I havent gotten either of those games. I want both but it will have to wait awhile. I finally completed the first stretch of Dragon Quest 7. I can now use vocations! It was a bitch finishing the Abbey questline.

vocations is when the game really starts. I still need to finish the final dungeon but I'm compelled to master every vocation. I don't think I have all the monster hearts though.

I probably will master most of the vocations but im thinking I wont do it for the monster ones. I might learn healslime since it gives you a heal the entire party spell but other then that I think the main vocations and there advanced ones will be what I focus on.

I am currently using a Hero, a Champion (both maxed) a Druid (taking forever) and a Black Bishop.

You'll pick up two more soon but you can only have 4 in the party

Oh and if you are interested I have a tablet I can share that has a King Metal Slime as the boss. Strangely he doesn't give you the full 33000 experience like the ones in the wild do (only 22000 and change) A couple of rounds with everyone using Hatchet Man should take him down.

Sure I will gladly have it. My friend code for the 3ds is 2767 0363 5360. I dont know if you need it to share it with me so just in case.

I just built a better tablet that is full of King Metal Slimes and Gem Slimes. It's called The Northern Majestic Cave. I'm not sure if you can see it because it involves Streetpass but you can check for it once you get Monster Meadows going.

I shall look for it then!! Thank you!

Damn I was stupid and shared it via Streetpass when there is a download bar where you can share them via the internet. I can't figure out how to unshare the tablet either.

Pretty soon you'll start recruiting ex monsters for The Haven. You need that and Monster Meadows going to search for and use tablets

I can't have Nicki on my friend list unless you have me on yours. look for Athantos in your friend list. That would be me.

One of the main reasons why I really like World of Final Fantasy is that it felt like Square made a FF game just for me.  Because of that, it'll probably get pretty high accolades when I do my Game of the Year Awards Show blog.

My year was fine until about September, then everything went to hell. Well, I'm surviving, but only just.

I stopped playing ffxv around the 20 hour mark and refuse to play for another year or so until the game is finished. Seriously, theyre talking about adding major cutscenes to the game and actually finally putting the fucking story into the game. Its a shame because i really love the main quartet and want to see their relationship play out but i also dont want to beat thw game with half of it missong.

Well I hate playing unfinished games but I gave this one a shot. I'm doubtful that they'll actually do anything with it considering they are making their money back but we'll see.

I played the Platinum FFXV demo and thought it was creative and looked kinda pretty, but the combat was really repetitive. Basically, I held O a lot. Granted, were the game not reviving me every time I ducked up the boss battle, I may have had to strategize more. He actually kicked my ass when I chose to replay him by accident.

My 2016 on paper was awesome. Too bad having major depressive disorder for much of the year screwed me out of feeling the joy of a good, well-paying job. Then again, said job was greatest contributor to MDD, so it's a double-edged sword.

I liked a lot of the celebrities that went this year, but many had cancer, were older, or did c enough drugs that their passing wasn't surprising to me. Honestly, I'm most surprised this wasn't the year Keith Richards left us. Would have really sealed the deal on the whole apocalypse thing after the election.

I'm trying to remain positive about 2017 and beyond, but at times I think it's naive, other times I realize worrying really won't change much so might as well enjoy whatever ride is coming. Guess we'll see.

I think that Bowie and Prince were the biggest shocks to me. Nobody knew that Bowie had cancer, he kept it a secret to the very end and he was only 69. Prince died from a drug overdose which was very surprising since he had no public history of drug abuse.

Richards is immortal for some reason. I still don't get that. Not that I want him to die  but I'd rather it had been him than Bowie, Prince or Cohen.
