Happy New Year Pixlbit!

Operation Intrude N313 has begun. This operation requires you to infiltrate the enemy's base Outer Heaven and destroy the ultimate weapon, Metal Gear!

Sorry, but I cheated and started playing this game last night. I wanted the last game I was playing in 2016 to be a Metal Gear game. And now the first game I'm playing in 2017 is a Metal Gear game!

I've played and beat this game once. I love the music in it. And its fun to see all the similarities in this game and the games that follow.  Like the room full of gas, the electrified floor, the cards that open doors and...The Cardboard Box!

One thing I had trouble with the first time I played this game, and it made me so frustrated I thought I was not going to be able to play it.  I could never get my game to save! It was driving me crazy. I actually messaged a guy on youtube who posted a playthrough and ask him, or maybe I posted in the comments?..on how do you save in this game.

The Elevator!

That is how you save. You must be in the elevator area. So anytime you're ready to quit you must find an elevator shaft to save your game. I like to save a lot so I do a lot of back tracking to the elevator to save.

And one more thing. Unlike the playstation Metal Gear Solid where a card of a higher level will open a door of a lower level...like a level 6 card will open all doors up to level 6. In this game that doesnt work. If you have all the level cards and come across a level 1 door, you need a level 1 card to open it. It's not really a problem but you have to scroll through your inventory to find the correct card. And the doors aren't marked so later in the game you may have to try all the cards to find the correct level card to open that door!

But.....it's an awesome game and I am enjoying playing it.

The couple times I've tried playing NES Metal Gear, I can't get past the first few screens because the dogs get me and I can't navigate that maze of grass walls well enough.

Joe:  I remember the dogs but I cant remember the tall grass, that may be exclusive to the NES version, I saw once on youtube where they are different in some areas.

I just remembered something else about Metal Gear.  In the NES game, when you sneak on the back of a truck, Snake will say, "Uh oh, I think the truck have started to move!"  For some reason, that always cracked me up as a kid.

I don't think I ever played Metal Gear during the NES days but I did try it after playing the Playstation version but never got deep into the game. Maybe I should tackle it for 2017.

Chris:  Yeah, have another go at it, you'll be glad you did. Just not the NES version
