I Found a Box!

I never realized how much the Metal Gear Solid games were so influenced by the first two Metal Gear games. After playing Metal Gear MSX port it was uncanny how many items and gameplay was carried over to the MG Solid series.

Like The Box

And the box really is a useful item. I use it to sneak past security cameras and slack guards.

So the box is in the first Metal Gear game and all of the MGS games I played. But.....I can't remember now, if it's in MGS 4. I know you get a 55 gallon metal drum in MGS4 but I dont remember a box.

Well, I'll find out in due time.

KD:  In MGS on the PSX you can get in a box in back of a truck and it will transport you to another section/area in the game

It would be heresy for there to be no boxes in a MGS game! Shame on 4 if that's the case!

Snake had a smoking habit in the old Metal Gear games, too. Even on the NES, you start out with a pack of cigarettes.

I first got exposed to Metal Gear through the NES game. I know Kojima doesn't like this version because of the changes they made to it, but the stealth gameplay was still groundbreaking for its time since they didn't release the MSX versions over here in the 1980s. The music is pretty catchy in the way that many NES games are.

I got my start with Final Fantasy in FF6, FF7, and FF Tactics. I missed out on the earlier games, and three of those games - FF2, FF3, and FF5 - didn't get US releases until after those games came out. It was interesting to see how the elements of the series evolved and how many of the thematic elements in the later games originated in the older ones. I think that the old Metal Gear games were a big revelation to the people who started with MGS and first played them on PS2 as part of MGS3 Subsistence. A lot of people thought Metal Gear originated with Metal Gear Solid, where the people who started with Final Fantasy VII at least knew there were six earlier games.

Andrew: I was one of those that thought the MGS series started with MGS on the playstation. Matter of fact when I read that Metal Gear 1 and 2 were included with MGS3, I thought it meant MGS1 and MGS2

I always liked hiding in the box on NES Metal Gear as a kid.  It cracked me up for some reason.

I remember now, you do get a box in MGS4, right before you are near the statues of three men a box is under the stairs!
