I Suck at Drawing Things

I haven't posted a blog in a while, and this is for good reason! Nothing in my life ever happens, and when stuff actually happens, it happens in such small increments that I have to wait a while for the events to pile up to a socially displayable size. So here goes!

I find I've been doodling a lot and as many of you may know, my drawings are crap. In this one,  I tink Sora over to the left came out a lot better than Cloud to the right.I sort of ran out of steam when drawing Cloud and settled for less than okay. I also tried to draw this in the style of Zac Gorman, who is now my favorite artist.

The sitar joke is a refrence to Demyx from the Kingdom Hearts series who uses a sitar in battle. This is kind of ironic because the main weapon used is a KEY. Silly Nomura.

I also find that I've been drawing a lot of penguins. I've been drawing these in friends notebooks, on the boards in school, on homework, etc. It's sort of become my signature and my friends have been joking that I have an adorable penguin army at my command.

One day, I was also listening to a lot of this:

So I decided to draw whoever that was on the picture. I didnt get to finish the drawing, but I think it came out pretty nice for what it is.

What I've been listening to

So news of the new Daft Punk album is coming in waves and I've had this on repeat for the last two days.

This was originally shown at the opening for Coachella and during the commercials for last night's SNL. This isn't really game related, but when the album hits on May 17th I think I will do a review of it. Judging just from this, I think that the album will be different than previous ones, but in a good way. Sort of a return to more disco and dance sounds than heavy electronic as seen in Human After All. Also, it has Nile Rodgers in it, who is quite possibly the greatest guitarist ever.

What I've been reading

For those of you who don't know, Marvel held the #1 event where they gave away 700 #1 issues for free. I took advantage of this and now I have more comics than I know what to do with. It'll probably take about a month or two to get through all of them, but I'm a patient person. Oh, and I think I might have found what is quite possibly the greatest comic book panel in all of history.

Sorry it came out sideways, I'm not sure how to fix it.

I've also been playing through Final Fantasy 7 and Tactics: War of the Lions. Great games, both of them. Also, by the recommendation from Sneenlantern, I downloaded Saturday Morning RPG on my Ipod. I'm like 5 minutes into it, so I should get to playing that now...

Cloud really should have a hair impalement fatality. lol. I've always wondered what hair spray he was using.

There actually not that bad, the fact that you enjoy drawing is whats important. Besides like anything it just takes practice. The more you do it the better you will get. A good way to get better is to try and draw what other artists you like have drawn, like comics. Also you can find tons of books (some better than others) on  sketching and drawing. I got two from a great series called How To Draw Manga by The Society for the Study of Manga Techniques. Each volume focuses on a different aspect of illustration and building comics.

Marvel did what? They still doing that? I think I might like a few.

And that Daft Punk song definitely sounds different from what I'm used to from them, but not bad.

I need to break out some of my own learn-to-draw books. What you've got is a hell of a lot better than the stick figures I would draw in school.

Hey those are cool drawings. Just keep practicing, start trying to draw things around the house. One of the exercises my art teacher had us do was draw a different thing around the house every day. Simple things like a stapler, remote, etc. After we hit 50, it went on to different hand shapes. Looking back on your drawings you'll notice that your lines/shapes/point of view get better.

Keep practicing man!
