I finished FF15, sort of...

In the end the game was great! I was disappointed at first when the story seemed to have gone a completely different direction from the dark vision of original Versus XIII, but once I settled into this new leisurly world, I just let go and embraced the roadtrip theme and loved it.  I had issue with the combat, especially the camera and enclosed spaces, but I spent tons of hours in the overworld hunting giant things, and on that level it was fun. For me I've always enjoyed the future/tech FF games. FF has always been either traditional medieval-like fantasy FF1-6 & 9, 11, 14 and then a more futuristic machine technology world like 7, 8, 13 and, and 15 falls in the side of future/tech which I also enjoy.

I spent about 60 hours in the open world before continuing on with the main story, and still have lots of hunts to do and skills to unlock post-game. The soundtrack is just phenominal and glorious! I haven't stopped listening to the soundtrack since the game launched, and even well before the game launched. I have no idea what will happen to the original concept of Versus13, or if a sequel is planned for 15, but I really liked this direction and I'm curious to see what SE has planned for it. I read rumors about a 15 MMO, but I don't know how that would work really? There is already a pretty popular MMO, A Realm Reborn from SE, why would they want take players away from something that is already successful?

Interesting rumors about FF13 trilogy remaster for PS4, which I will definitly be interested in.

3D Open World design has been something I've complained about on here for a while, but there are exceptions and FF15 is one. Maybe this game made me open my eyes and embrace something different for a change, although Xenoblade and FF12 kind of did that already.

Julian's Review of FF15 is basically what I felt about the game, so he saved me the trouble of writing another one. If you haven't read it on the front page here is the link.

It seems we are getting the darker-branded Versus XIII of sorts with the FFVII Remake. I doubt Nomura would ever have the time to go back and do a FFXV sequel or make the true Versus XIII. With FFVII Remake and Kingdom Hearts III still years away, he'd probably want to work on something new after all that.

Anyway, the story of FFXV was kind of a mess and had plenty of boring levels, but boy, that great ending came out of left field. I loved FFXV mostly for the open-world elements. I hope they make a FFXV-2 just so they utilize the open-world they created even more (and uh, finish making it as well).

I agree. There is definitly a gap where a sequel could exist within 15 if you know what I mean, IRIS. FF sequels have always had female protagonists, X-2, 13-2, so it would be only fitting here.

And apparently, a new expansion is already in development. Just ran into this news story after I made my previous comment. Depending on how they handle it, that might be better news than a sequel (it won't take another 10 years to develop).

Yeah, but they are very vague about what that expansion will entail. I feel like there are so many options available with sequels, like a 15-2 is definitely possible since they have all the assets left over from what they cut out. I don't know what the multiplayer is either? I keep seeing stuff about a Carnival event? What's going on with this game?

It is pretty confusing to follow what they are doing with this game. They are treating it almost like an MMO with these events. That stuff doesn't interest me. The multiplayer is going to be 4-player co-op.

On second thought, this new expansion probably isn't going to be all that exciting. They are calling the other DLC expansions as well and I don't expect them to be very long or deep. I will continue to hope a sequel is greenlit.

I've read up alot on FF15 post launch and while some of it is rumor, basically a lot was decidedly cut from the game early last year, complete areas and story content were cut to make a deadline. SE was expecting mediocre reception to game and put a final nail in the Fabula Nova Crystal project and just move on, but they were surprised by the positve response from fans and so now they are supporting the game more. Initially, they mentioned that there were unprecedented amount of patches planned for the game post launch, which included story content that felt lacking. There was an interesting rumor that claimed that after FF7, KH3 they would start working on a sequel to 15, like 13-2 or lightning returns since they have a lot of left over assets and figured out the combat. Who knows? The major patch content was announced though, but I doubt that it's on the level of massive expansions like other games like Witcher 3 or Souls games. They are concernced about the quality of their product and want to make things right with fans, unlike WB or whoever made that last Batman game that was broken on PC, but they decided to move on w DLC instead of fixing it.

I did hear a lot about about cut story content and mainly unfinished areas of the open world that can be accessed via a glitch. I'm glad they're finishing the game, even if it is through paid DLC. I was planning on getting the season pass anyway, so hopefully all the DLC will be included with that.

I mean the game is fine the way it is. It's main strength is the open world and progress-at-your-own pace design. I honestly wish they had filled the open world with more stuff to do, like Metal Gear 5, instead of diverting focus on the final story parts which didn't really enhance anything in my opinion, but the ability to jump back at any time was a good idea, so I cant complain about it either.

Glad you liked it. I ended up putting it down for a while, but I will hopefully pick it back up soon. Does the plot get more involved later? Because it feels like it barely exists 20 hours in.

I went in blind and dicked around the open world for 50+ hours without thinking about the story at all and I think I enjoyed it a lot more for that reason. This game is an inverse of Final Fantasy 13, if you know what I mean. FF13 was all hallways, then 20+ hours of open world, 15 is the opposite of that, so have as much fun in the sandbox as possible to get the most out of it. I only moved on when I felt I saw everything except for high level hunts and tough dungeons. The last 3rd is mostly plot, but mostly a skeleton or outline of story that was very obviously rushed.

My advice, don't try to brute force your way through the game. Get to see and do as much of the open world as you can before progressing, because basically that is the main game.

I would not have put so much time into this game if it were not for the characters. While the overall story was a bit confusing and needed to be pieced together from other sources, the four main bros are now near top of my fav FF characters list. The ending would not have been so amazing if they did not put the time into the characters through the game.

While a lot of people hated the third act--stealth--it made the relationships that much stronger and made you miss the characters.

I've really enjoyed FFXV. It was certainly better than XIII, but I think I like it a little better than X, even. The closest analogy I can think of is that it is to XIII in my mind what XII was compated to X, in that XII and XV were the FF games I really wanted from their respective generations. I'm glad it's doing well, especially if the rumors of a XIV helmed by Hiroyuki Ito turn out to be true.

And like Catherine says, I like the main characters even though it would have been cool to have a woman or two available as permanent party members. Square Enix really nailed down the chemisty between Noct, Gladio, Ignis, and Prompto. My favorite is Ignis.

I don't think the "real Versus XIII" will ever come out. I believe Square Enix has distanced itself from the Fabula Nova Crystallis concept for good, after two sequels to XIII and then FF Type-0 (which was a good game in its own right). It wasn't especiallly well received.

I like the FNC concept-- main protagonist putting their own life in danger to help their friends. It was consistent with the FNC games, 13&sequels, TypeZero, and 15. I liked how they remixed the same Etro story, but in different worlds, like everything rhymes. I personally like dark themes and horror, and 13 was supposed to be a mature turn-around. The same thing happend with 12, the main protagonists were supposed to be Bash and Fran, but SE felt that FF should be light hearted and fun, so they shoe-horned in two peppy kids, Vaan and Penelo to appeal to younger gamers. I love 12 and 15, and Type 0 is quite dark, but I would love to have seen the original Versus13 realized in some fashion. I know they leaked a script for versus, but yeah, I think FNC is dead mostly due to the bad reception of 13, although I love that series personally.

I would play 15 but the story ending got spoiled so im just waiting. Im super excited for the remaster of ff12 and maybe once that releases and i play it for awhile ill magically forget. I am glad its good though. Release day for FF15 was kind of worrisome. It could have been the last of the series if it didnt do well. They sunk so much into it.

There really isnt much of a story to begin with. It's all pushed to the background and might as well have just been a long CGI movie. A lot of the game is focused on the roadtrip gameplay: exploration and monster hunting. I actually didnt expect THAT ending at all. However, it is in line with previous FNC protagonists so I should have expected it. Yeah, it's mostly all KH action all the time and no story really.
