For those of you who listen to Retronauts, this is old hat but I thought it was so cool that I wanted to share it with those of you in the dark. (And if you're not listening to Retronauts...what's wrong with you???) Metroid Resynthesized is a fan arrangement of the original Metroid soundtrack done on a Korg MS20 Mini. Basically, any synth music you hear today that's done on a computer is digital but this project was done with analog synths, giving it a '70s-ish sci-fi sound. It's really cool!

It takes just about 16 minutes to cover the entire soundtrack, so there's little excuse to not just hop over onto youtube and listen to the whole thing, but I'll share a couple favorites. The title screen is really good, of course.

And Kraid's Lair.

Be sure to go listen to the rest! It's all good.

I don't necessarily love it. I like how it sounds more like Alien this way, since that was the inspiration (still have yet to see those movies ... and Predator), but I honestly prefer the 8-bit versions if I'm being honest.

I like the 8bit too.  There's something about that cheap bass coming out of a tube TV speaker.

Weird you mention this just when I picked up this BBC Radiophonic Workshop CD of tracks they did in the 60s with even more primative electronic instruments than analog synthesizers. I just read how some of the staff left when synthesizers came along because they didn't like it. I like it though. Definitely conjures the 70s for me, for sure.
