Wow what a weekend...what an incredible game yesterday. I thought the Patriots were done....buried. Down 28 to 3 in the 3rd to come back and win 34 to 28...astounding. Whether you hate em or love em...there's no denying that 4th quarter was incredible. But I could go on and on... I have games to show!
Scribblenauts Unlimited & Unmasked- Unlimited was a launch title that proposed that you could write down just about any word you could think of (as long is it's not a curse word or something filthy) and bring it to life. With multiple puzzles that can be solved with your endless imagination such as defeating a bear with a giant, friendly cthulu. It also features a few different Mario characters you can bring into the game as well. Meanwhile, Unmasked features Maxwell mixing it up with all your favorite DC Comics Super heroes and villains. They are pretty fun too.
Shovel Knight- Steel Thy Shovel Knave! Shovel Knight was a game I supported via kickstarter as well. This investment proved more fruitful than Mighty No.9 however. It's such a great throwback to classic NES platformers and elements of Mega Man. With humorous dialogue and a rocking soundtrack, Shovel Knight is a terrific indie title everyone should play. Plus the extra Knight campaigns are free DLC. I can't wait for Spectre Knight!
Sonic & Sega: All-Stars Racing Transformed- I really enjoyed the first Sega racing for the Wii and this was even better. For me I was really torn. I love Mario Kart 8 and it's terrific, but Transformed took what the previous game did well and added to it. It's no surprise considering the folks at Sumo have been developing racing games for years, but in some aspects I think it outdoes Mario Kart in some ways. The arcade mode is terrific, the tracks are fun and frenetic, and whenever I lost it was mostly due to my own poor driving rather than a rubberband A.I. item out of nowhere that hit me. While the addition of Danica Patrick is bizarre and unecessary, it's a really solid racer!
Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric- There's a lot to say about this game. It's easy, monotonous, buggy, terrible, boring, etc. If you want to be a critic then it's perfectly valid. This game is a far cry from where Sonic had been going. I feel it was going in a positive direction with Generations and Colors. Still I can't fault BigRedButton for developing a game that they didn't realize was going to be for Wii U which barely runs it and honestly Sega screwed the pooch seeing this as more of a cash grab in terms of merchandise, tv show tie ins, and toys. It's a fairly average, mediocre action platformer that younger kids might enjoy, but fans of Sonic should stay far away.
Sonic: Lost World- I enjoyed Sonic Lost World a lot. Yes it wasn't as good as Generations or Colors, but it really was a lot of fun. I know a lot of people didn't like the controls and thought the controls were bad, but I never had a problem with it. Yes the game doesn't explain a lot, but I found it more fun to experiment on my own. When running at a wall I found I could do parkour and then I practiced it. If I ever died it was mostly my own fault as honestly this is the most platform friendly Sonic.Yes the story isn't great, the Deadly Six have no personality other than what they are motivated to do (Destroy the world of course!). I do applaud this game for what it does right, but I can certainly see why many don't enjoy it.
Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures 1 & 2- So Ghostly Adventures is based on a terrible TV show I've never watched. How do I know it's terrible? Well if the voice acting in these games are anything to go by. The gameplay itself is a fairly simple platformer. The pac challenges can provide some replay value, but this game is for younger kids. I got both as a 2 for $20 deal and while they are okay games... it's no Pac man World adventure
Pikmin 3 is another excellent entry in the Pikmin series. With 3 playable characters, new pikmin types and backed by a fun strategic but explorative world. This entry is a must play!
Rayman Legends is an absolute blast. I enjoyed Origins and Legends improved on everything with music themed levels based on a mariachi styled Eye of the Tiger or including 40 of Origins levels in Legends. It's like getting two games in one almost! WWith the addition of the murphy based touch levels. It's an incredible sequel you need to play.
Resident Evil Revelations is pretty fun. It's a overall enjoyable game with some rpg and ranking mechanics. There are pgrades to your guns, getting various collectibles, going back to old locations to unlock secret rooms, staring at Jill's ass...I mean shooting zombies...yes shooting zombies is what I meant to say.
Runbow:Deluxe Edition. With all the DLC and a downloadable soundtrack included...this deluxe edition of Runbow ran me a $20 bill, much cheaper than the downloadable eshop version which would have cost me more escpecially in terms of memory. It's a really fun rhythm, platformer game. It's pretty odd. It features various indie characters like Commander Video and Shovel Knight and in a way it reminds me of the Bit.Trip series with it's rhythm color based action. Worth a pick up!
