I watched Dory for the first time and I actually liked that it was more sad and depressing than just the usual overly happy Pixar movie. Zootopia is also very good in it's mirroring of real day politics. Very surprised about it as I was watching both for the first time. I want more of these type of movies from now on, next to the usual fantasy musical that Disney makes.

Well, not really, just not sure how I want to grade some of these short answer questions. Going back and forth on a system allowing for half points or one where they either got it right or wrong altogether. I'm not taking points off for minor spelling errors, just correcting their mistakes.
Anyway, yesterday was the Super Bowl and ... people seem to be less and less excited about it every year. Despite the fact this was the first ever Super Bowl to go into overtime, resulting from the underdog putting up a 21-3 score at half time and the expected winners putting up 25 unanswered points to tie the game at the end, my class's reactions to "did you watch the Super Bowl yesterday" were basically "meh." I did get one "I'm just glad it's over." Since I teach only 2-3 hours away from Houston, TX, there were students who visited over the weekend and though the surrounding attractions were fun and saw a few celebrities walking around malls and such.
Then again, it's a writing class mostly full of 18 year old college Freshmen (there are probably a few older upper classment, but it's an intro course), so maybe the lack of excitement is a generational thing. Plus, I only asked the one class, so sample size. There's a lot wrong with my methodology here, I admit.
While I watched the whole thing, I was pretty underwhelmed as well. I wasn't able to find any watch parties (my friends either didn't care, were invited to parties where I didn't know anyone, watched with family, or decided to watch from home since they weren't excited about the teams in it), so there was no one to share in the excitement. I could have gone to the bar, but I figured I'd get some light cleaning done and avoid crowds/spending money. So for me, the atmosphere just wasn't there, and that's a big part of what makes the Super Bowl fun to me. That and the home made food.
The Edelman catch was great, and I was excited to see the Falcons' offense explode out of the gate, but then penalties and laying an egg in the fourth quarter started killing them and Brady gained momentum. I'm not even mad at the Patriots. How the hell do you blow that big of a lead? Congratulations to my roommate and rangergirl (both from Maine) for an achievement you had no part in, but are going to celebrate anyway. I kid, I kid. I can't judge, I do it all the time with the American Revolution.
Dez Bryant is PISSED
I did really enjoy the Half-Time show. Some are saying there actually was a bit of poitics thrown in when Lady Gaga started belting Woodie Guthrie's This Land Is Your Land, but if so, that subtle message was lost on pretty much everyone who watched. At the very least, it wasn't as abrasively in-your-face as Beyonce & co. dressing in Black Panther uniforms performing "Formation" (which I also enjoyed for what it was). I didn't notice how many Super Bowls she's been a part of until some memes started mentioning her absence. Come to think of it, I'm surprised Gaga played "Telephone" and Beyonce never showed up.
I unashamedly enjoy Lady Gaga's music, so I really dug it. Bruno Mars with RHCP is still my favorite Super Bowl Halftime Show, but this one was really good. Yes I'm aware The Boss, The Who etc. have performed half time shows and I do tend to prefer rock music. No, I don't think their performances were better as far as what I experienced watching TV at home (The Boss is definitely up there for concerts I've attended live though).
I was also surprised "Until it Happens to You" wasn't played
Oh and in case you missed it, you should really check out Melissa McCarthy's Sean Spicer impression from Saturday Night Live. I'm not going to post it just to avoid too much political discussion, but here's the link cause it made me laugh harder than anything SNL has done in recent memory: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UWuc18xISwI
By the way, did anyone catch the exorbitant amount of motherf****ers being spouted off by both the Patriots and the guy holding the trophy before Michael Strahan took it? Come on, sound guy! I also noticed that Gooddell gave Kraft the trophy and not Tom Brady. Is that breaking tradition, or were all those memes about Gooddell not wanting to hand it to Brady just meme talk? Cause now that I think of it, why would he hand it to the QB and not the owner. I know Brady's family has had some health problems, so he stepped out of an interview early. I dunno. Gooddell got booed, whatever.
I joked on Facebook that it was an above-average weekend for broadcast television, but I was still going to go back to consuming entertainment exclusively on my PS4. And that's just what I did.
After the Super Bowl, I got a teeny bit farther in Rise of the Tomb Raider and discovered a certain plot twist that made me look up a certain character to make sure she was who I thought she was. She was not. But the twist has already made me want to see more of this game's story.
So far, it's basically the 2013 reboot, with improved graphics and more content. Plus, I'm digging the Croft Manor being used as kind of a hub world once you complete the Blood Ties DLC story. I got the 20th Anniversary Edition on PS4 for $30 and happy I did. I was debating whether to get this or either The Nathan Drake Collection or Uncharted 4 first, and since I've actually played a game in this series and it was on sale, it became a no brainer. That collection is $20 before sale though, so I'll likely pick it up to see what all the Uncharted fuss is about sooner than later.
Not buying any of the action in this game, but the "f* physics" engine makes it fun
I also watched Finding Dory since it was on Netflix. Seemed to be a lot less jokey than I recall Finding Nemo being, but I did only watch either of these movies once so maybe I'm remembering wrong. Dory definitely made me well up a bit a handful of times though. It's those gigantic eyes on younger Dory and her voice. They got me with that.
Those adorable eyes are of the devil
As for Super Bowl Advertisements, I really didn't find too many all that memorable. I know I saw one for The Switch/Breath of the Wild, but I was also on my phone for most of that. I caught a Transformers ad, and ... it looked exactly the same as all of them have. Meh. I noticed Bieber was in one and ... again, don't really care. The only standout for me was the T-Mobile ad with the BDSM implications. Even then, I think I was just happy there was at least one commerical with politically incorrect humor instead of all the boring, playing-it-safe crap we've had in recent years. I'll watch YouTube and get back to you if I see anything decent.
Keep it MIDI, Pixlbitties. ... I'll come up with something better later. Or maybe I won't. Who knows!
Anyway, I'm off to exercise and see what I want to do before tomorrow, since classes are cancelled. We're having a Super Media Bowl tomorrow consisting of media professionals hosting 4 "quarters" with different panel topics and a "half-time" lunch in between, so all professors in my department were asked to cancel classes and excuse student absences tomorrow. Should be fun.
