BaD 2017.7: all-dayer.

I’m a chronic insomniac. Always have been. However, it has been particularly bad lately, and I was forced to try and reset myself. This means that I was up all night, and the plan is to stay awake until late this evening. The idea is that I’ll be so exhausted by nine o’clock that I’ll sleep deeply and wake up at a decent time, feeling refreshed.

Now, I’m almost 37, but I can still pull an all-nighter without blinking. During the night, I wrote yesterday’s BaD blog, a review for Firewatch, replayed a few missions from Hitman, and wrote a review for Hitman. Look forward to those two reviews soon, along with my review for Virginia. It’s almost 6am now, and I’m doing pretty well so far. I already took a shower, and I’m going to go out for breakfast in a bit.

No, the tough part is the all-dayer. Fellow insomniacs out here know of what I speak. I think this comic from The Pigeon Gazette says it best:

I don't have chronic insomnia, so when I do have a bout, it screws with me greatly. And I have done what you're doing, and I can so empathize with that comic! Good luck today, and I hope you get some sleep tonight.

It was largely successful. I ended up dozing for a few hours, but still slept for a good 9 hours and I feel pretty good now.

Although, we record Nerds Without Pants this evening, and I'm always super keyed up after that and don't sleep well, so I may not have planned well.

That's like me after I come home from a really good sea music session. I bounce off the walls for hours afterwards.

I used to have chronic insomnia, but sometime in the last few months it's kind of disappeared and I've been sleeping through the whole night... most of the time.  Still have my nights sometimes though.  I kind of miss it, but also kind of don't.

I just read Adrianna Huffington's Sleep Revolution book. It's great! I got it in audio form. I've been moving sleep up in my priorities every since I had my carbon monoxide poisoning. I fight with myself over computer time after midnight though. I should go right to bed but I have so much to do. I give myself an hour or two a night but then try and keep a tight bedtime schedule.

I really need to have a firm technology cutoff before bed. I still turn the TV off right before bed like when I was in my 20s, but there's also that damn phone to contend with.

A big part of her book was about staying away from tech gadgets before bed. Something about it turning off melatonin production. I find it hard to stay away from my computer just after work. It's a great time to work, late at night. Sometimes though I just come home and try and not turn on any lights and just go to sleep. That's probably better for me, but when am I going to rip my vinyl records or put my music playlists together for work? It seems nearly impossible with my schedule.

Yup, I know exactly where that comic is coming from minus the man-crushing and the fact I don't own Overwatch. Everything else, completely on point. Well, I'd be a werewolf not a mermaid. Still, everything else completely relatable.

I was pretty mermaidy last night before bed.
