Ever since I read daftman's blog about Castlevania coming to Netflix, I've just been listening to this YouTube video with all the different versions of "Bloody Tears" throughout the series.

Of course, that video doesn't include my favorite rendition, which is just piano:

Otherwise, I prefer it in symphonic or MIDI form. The metal versions honestly just don't do it for me.

Speaking of heavy (if in this case, emo) music, I had this song's chorus stuck in my head all day. I'm not a huge fan of the verses, but this band can pump out a good chorus.

Even when it's about domestic abuse ...

I forget how, but I was also reminded of some of my favorite THPS songs the other day and started listening to those.

My favorite song from Tony Hawk's 1.

Favorite song from 2 and one of my favorite bands as an adult. Can you believe the lead singer is a PhD in evolutionary biology and has taught at UCLA and Cornell? Dexter Holland, lead singer of The Offspring does HIV research apparently. Who knew punks were so smart?

Lest I forget, I also played this gem in large part for the soundtrack.

Apparently, you could pop the CD in to any CD player and instead of the game, the soundtrack would play.

My favorite song from that game was ...

I was one punk/ska-loving 9 year old.

What's your favorite video game song, OST or not?

For me, this is also pretty high up there:

Though maybe not for 30 minutes, unless I'm using it to get some sleep.

Have you ever played (or at least seen) Kid Dracula?  That's my favorite Castlevania game.

I don't think I could just pick one favorite video game song.  But some that I really have always liked include Dr. Wily's Stage 1 theme from Mega Man 2, and the Stage 1 theme from Darius, also called Captain NEO.  Give them a listen when you get a chance.

Think I've heard of it ...

I know wily stage 1 from mm2, but not darius. I'll look that up.

Bloody Tears is one of the classic video game songs. As a whole, I think the series stands at the top of the heap of video game music.

It's up there for sure. I'd say Capcom has my favorite songs as a company though. MM, SF, etc. I know this is Konami. Contra has a good soundtrack too.

Me too. Would be wild if Netflix started producing games to compete with gamefly...

They were going to at one point but changed their minds.

Yeah I think Dexter got his degree from USC, and USC always plays The Offspring's The Kids Aren't Alright along with a couple of other Offspring songs.

Love that Superman song. I played the hell out of that game and I think it bothered some of my residents on my floor.

As for favorite song from a video game I'm going to go with the intro for GTA San Andreas. It sounds like 90s gangsta rap. It borrows from everything that was a mainstay at the time: a collection of hooks, samples, and electronic sounds. Its an instrumental but it could have been pulled from a Dr. Dre/DJ Quik song.

Odd choice of offspring song for a college ... Think you're gonna go far kid might be more appropriate. Lol

Ska is one genre you and i agree on. Love that stuff.

Presentation is everything.

Eh, all my songs from games are either shlocky metal or just plain silly or melodramatic. I can't get serious on video game music. It's too much a guilty pleasure for me. I like Anamanguchi as a music that sounds like it should be in a game.

Anamani what now? I dig cheesy stuff, but some of the Castlevania remixes take it too far. I love metal as well, but in the right context. Certain games just don't jive with it. Same with movies.

They did the Scott Pilgrim game soundtrack. They do many intros to podcasts I listen to like Retronauts and Vidjagame Apocalypse, and they have an album now called Endless Fantasy.
