Yup, definitely getting a chicken fingers basket. Don't even care you didn't abbreviate to DQ.

So I finally completed this beast of a game. I know I have bitched about it with my last few blogs, but please know I do like this game. It has flaws but I did enjoy my time with it and I especially loved the characters and story. I'm typically not huge on games that are pretty religiously themed. Im not religious myself. However this game was really excellent and the theme for sure didnt bother me.
Gameplay wise, its your typical turn based fanfare, you start the battle with either you picking your first round of attacks or the enemy gets a freebie and can proceed to beat the shit out of you. The attack menu was a bit overwhelming with the spells and abilities area in the beginning. Spells and abilities both have 3 sub categorys that consist of Offensive-Attack based, Defensive-Support based, and Other-Random Shit. It took a bit to get use to it and figure out where each skill I learned went essentially. One thing I dont like is that the only items you take into battle is the ones your character is personally carrying in their inventory. I just personally dont care for that, Im quite used to having access to my entire inventory in battles so it being closed off was just like"WTF?". Each character also only carries so many items. Now this isnt such a big deal in the later part of the game. Healing is mostly done through the vocations you learn so really your big issue is the MP department. Also fun fact, they have a error in translation for the Single Phials, It says it replenshies HP but its actually for MP. Lastly they have tactical choice in which you can give the characters a strategy type to use. It can be from all out attacking to strictly healing to dont use magic. I personally, didnt use it and kept everyone on follow orders. I like controling what everyone is doing and I find more success that way. Overall the combat system was simple and being turn based made me quite a happy camper.
I loved the vocation system. I thought it was awesome that you could kind of choose each characters role in the group. Now there of course were specfic roles they were better at but you didnt excatly have to follow that. My final group was 3 Champions *Hero,Ruff,Sir Mervyn* and a Druid*Aishe*. Normally people make Aishe an attack based and Sir Mervyn magic but I personally liked it the other way. I will say 3 Champions are overkill so if you want the final part of the game to be a challenge dont have 3 of them. I didnt care at that point, I had been playing DQ7 on and off since September, I was ready for it to be done with.
This game does poorly with one thing for me, Pacing. It gets pretty bad not just in the beginning but close to the end and then again at the very end. Long games arent bad, but if the pacing for it is off even if it is only at certain parts it can be a negative thing and it can make the length ridiclous. I would say it was at its most worse in the beginning. Passed that, this was a great game.
They really did an excellent job on the remake. This is my first encounter with 7. I actually didnt play Dragon Quest when I was growing up. It was a series I got into super late starting with DQ9 and I didnt play much of it either. I might not play this game again though, its a great title but its not one I would venture back to. One of my favorites things though was the ending, it was the typical everyone got their happy ending but something that happened at the very last few seconds just really made me smile. I wont say what, Im not about to spoil something. I try to keep my reviews spoiler free.
Anywho, if you like RPGs and have a 3DS I do recommend giving this title a chance. I feel overall its worth it. Now I shall return back to Dragon Quest 8.
