The original Final Fantasy III was released only in Japan in 1990. It is notable for being the first game in the series to have the job system as well as chocobos. For those in North America, 1990 was the year we got the FIRST FF game--we were really behind. Strangely enough, FF3 was overlooked for the next decade and a half. FF1 & 2 saw remakes on the Playstation and GBA, but not FF3. That all changed in 2006, when Square remade the whole game in 3D for the DS. Although nothing really new is added, this is a great remake. The job system is great, and the whole game, from towns to dungeons to music, is just classic FF, and you can't complain with that. The artstyle is very cute, and the opening cinematic movie is quite impressive. I believe there were some online capabilities added with the moogle mail or something like that, but the main game was what really mattered. It was great to be able to finally play this "lost" game after so many years. Square also remade FF4 in the same way the next year, and that's another great remake.

this is a pretty darn good remake. I played this.  I wish they would do the same thing with 5.

Yes! The remakes of 3 and 4 on DS are great. They should absolutely do the same with 5 and 6 (although now they would be on 3DS).

I really like DQ3.  It's the 2nd DQ game I finished.

Dragon Quest also has a bunch of remakes on DS, and they're good too, although to be honest, I haven't played any of them.

I have them too.  Played and beat them all but DQ8, because I'm currently trying to finish DQ7 before I start it..

Certainly a good looking remake.

Yes. If you haven't seen the opening movie, you should check it out. It's gorgeous!

I tried to get into FF3 but I just couldn't.  Maybe if it were released earlier when I was big into RPGs.  I call myself a FF fan but really the only main FF games I've really liked were 4, 6, and 9.

I also love the classic FF games. I think sometimes you just have to stick it out and then you'll find yourself enjoying it more later on. That's what happened to me with Final Fantasy and the Four Heroes of Light on DS.

Good remake, I picked this up so I could complete my Final Fantasy collection at the time. It got lost in the shuffle as it came out right before Final Fantasy XII. This game was ball bustingly hard.

It's challenging, but certainly beatable (I say that because I beat it, so I know most gamers can).

Here's my confession: of the three games that originated with the NES - of those, the only one I actually played on the NES was the first game since the other two were never localized until the PS1 - my favorite was Final Fantasy II, which is universally considered the worst of the three because of its admittedly broken levelling through practice mechanics (they did better with the spiritual successor series to FFII, SaGa). It had the most relatable story of the three (yes, I know that the NES games all had bare bones stories, including FFII) and my favorite music of the NES games, and I actually did well in figuring out the leveling system to where I destroyed the last boss.

I might have this. . . yes I do! Sweet. I played FF IV on DS a while back and really liked it, but I got stuck in the dungeon where you can't use metal objects. What the heck am i supposed to fight with then?

Wooden objects, I guess. I would just use magic as much as possible.

I have to replay it. For some reason, I had nothing to use but blocks, if I remember rightly. I went all around the world looking for some object I thought I'd missed.
