Confessions of a Metal Slime Junkie

Well it's no secret that I'm playing Dragon Quest VIII. I spent most of yesterday and today playing and I've put in 46 hours altogether.

I've built my team up to almost level 40 grinding on Liquid Metal Slimes in Castle Trodain. The big problem is that it now takes me 5 or more of the little buggers to gain a level and I'm starting to find it irritating that the majority of them flee before I get a hit in.

Anyway I'm taking a break from grinding to continue the story. All the monsters run away from me right now and boss battles are no big thing.

In other news I finished Season 7 of the X-Files while running on the treadmill today. 2 more seasons to go.

Oh leaf me alone.

Our basement is unfinished (no TV) so I take my Android or Windows tablet and put it over the control panel once I get everything set up.

Have you ever played DQ Builders?  My brother Jeff loves that game.  He also liked DQ Monsters when he was little.  My favorite DQ game is Rociket Slime!  I hope you've played that one!

Confession: never played Rocket Slime but I did spend a while with the Builders demo and enjoyed it.

I woke Jason up on more than one occasion yelling "come back and fight, you little bastards!" at the metal slimes when they'd run away.

I always murmour "no flee, no flee" as I'm setting up my attacks. Doesn't seem to help.

It's very satisfying though when Yangus' Executioner axe attack connects for 200 HP

I love grinding so high that the monsters run away from me.  I sometimes I say to them out loud, "Yeah, you better run!" Laughing

LOL. But occasionally you'll run into one who didn't get the memo and they run right at you.

Ive been told you can beat the final boss around level 40 so your probably good to go,lol!

Im leveling with metal slimes in Argonia right now.  Where do the liquid ones appear in the castle for you? I need to take a picture of one for the codex. I couldnt find them at all the last time I tried.

They are all over the place. I use the hallway just outside of the room that the sceptre was kept in. It usually has two monsters in it at either end of the hall. Just keep changing your view. (rotate the camera with L and R.) each time you do the monsters will respawn as something else. About every minute you'll get a Metal Slime at one end or the other.

I also had good luck in the room just north of the library. Again keep rotating or going back and forth on the monster until it becomes a Metal Slime. Harder to catch in there though. Buggers are fast.

I seem to remember some ability or spell or something I used in DQ8 on PS2 to keep the slimes from running. I forget what it was. I'm thinking of playing the 3DS version though. I put it on my rental list.

Hopefully the neighborhood gym opens back up so I can hop back on the treadmill. I do like walking around the neighborhood but its always fun to mix it up with an iPad streaming Netflix while getting in some exercise.

I like how everyone here is playing the same games. Maybe I should give DQ VIII a shot
