If you are avoiding social media/news outlets today, and have family in Boston now, that is the most updated news so far. Cellphone service has been shut down, but Kevin Smith's twitter has been relaying ways of keeping in touch.

617-635-4500 is a "family hotline," gizmo.do/QsrP8ON is another option, apparently.

Not looking to turn my blog into a news blog, but I myself have family in Boston, and felt it was important to pass this on.

Update 4:45PM CST: Hotline for suspicious bomb sightings 800-494-TIPS; cellphone service may still be up, but going to leave family hotline up in case.

Two bombs went off at the finish line of Boston Marathon, leaving two dead, and actually now the numbers on the lower third graphic on the news channels have jumped to ninety or one-hundred known wounded. There was a third detonation at JFK Library as well.

There have been several sources saying they have someone for questioning, but that's been unofficial and denied throughout the day.

Currently being investigated.

yeah I woke up from a nap and this was going on here.  Muy mom was like "Are you following this?"  I'm like "What?" Kind of how 9/11 happened to me: I slept through it -- I was on the west coast in SF.

There is a very 9/11 vibe, for sure. Thankfully, much fewer deaths, but a similarly sudden, tragic attack.

Been hearing about it most of the day. My prayers are with the folks hurt by this and the ones who love them. So horrible that someone could do this. I feel awful for those in the ER with terrible wounds. Too tragic and so senseless.....

Speaking of ER, the first responders have been doing a great job with getting patients care and there were even a couple bombs diffused I've heard. Important to acknowledge their good in a tragedy like this.

Absolutely. They did a fine job and saved lives by their actions. Could have been so much worse. Hope they find out the people responsible for this vicious attack.

A bunch of my runner friends were down there in the marathon, as well as the brother and sister-in-law of one of my best friends. All are ok. Friend's sister-in-law is a registered nurse, finished between the two blasts, and immediately headed into the crowd to see what she could do to help.

You want my not-so-humble opinion? This is the work of a home-grown nutjob like Timothy McVeigh.

That nurse you know is an awesome woman. Glad everyone is ok on your end, we're still waiting for text/call back here from my aunt about my cousin in Boston.Imagine she might be tied up at the moment, but pretty sure everything is ok. I hope so, anyway.

Homegrown nutjob certainly can't be ruled out yet.

I had thirteen people I was worrying about, so happy all of them are ok. One was there to cheer on the runners from the running club up here and saw/felt the blast. She and Vicky (the nurse) were the only two really near the explosions. Most of the others had already finished and left the vicinity.

I woke up to this today and have been in shocked since. I hope everything is OK with your family

I believe it is, but I hope so, too. Thanks for your thoughts. I appreciate it.
