I would totally go buy this if not for my dislike of turn based JRPGs.

February must be Dragon Quest month for me. I finished DQ8 last night, I dont know if Ill be doing the post game content. I might consider the game beat and delete it off the 3DS. Those RPGs take up a lot of memory.
Overall I enjoyed Dragon Quest 8. I feel it was quite an improvement from 7 and I think it was even better in quality remake wise. The characters were the best part of this game. Yangus and King Trode being the comedy trio. Jessica was some what a toned down Maribel but I actually liked her. She had a balance to her character. Angelo was the womanizer but he also had a very caring and serious side to him, honestly that back story scene about when he was child coming to the abbey broke my heart. The Hero was the normal silent type that responds mostly in facial expressions. They also made 2 characters playable that werent in the original. Red and Morrie but Ill honestly say I never recruited Morrie and Red joined so late in the game that she didnt even get used.
Story was quite interesting, it wasnt religous heavy and it kept my interest through the entire game. Toward the end I was 100% invested in finishing it to find out what happens. Pacing was improved greatly compared to 7. The game starts out with the Hero and Yangus traveling with the King and Princess of Trodain who have been cursed. As you continue on you recruit Jessica and Angelo. I wont say much more for the story for I dont wanna spoil anything. I firmly believe if you enjoy RPG's and have a 3DS you need to get this game and play it yourself. This game will make you have emotions, it tore my heart in ribbons at select parts.
Combat is not all that different from the previous title. Its still turn based, they still have the tactictal options, and they even have a battle speed option. I used it during the grinding part, it came big time in handy. Also, the final boss fight is bullshit so prepare super well. Its busted into 2 parts and the first part is utter nonsense. Thankfully once you do that you dont have to do it again if you happen to die during phase 2. The final boss.....omg. I died when I only had 165 points left to strike him down. I was seeing red at that point. If you played the game originally on the PS2 they did give him more health. His health is 6500 for the 3DS remake. Like a lot of the near to the end bosses he can hit you twice in a row. He always does unless he decides to laugh at you, recover his magic, or heal himself. He has one move that will strike 1 character twice or 2 separate characters once. Several moves that damage everyone and if he does heal, guard dammit, he might use one his strongest attacks he has next. I had to have 2 healing characters. One was not enough to keep us alive.
My biggest issue is still with inventory, however they arent changing that anytime soon I doubt. Im just use to having access to my entire inventory in battle.
Seriously guys this game is fucking good, what more do you want for confirmation? What more do you want from me?
GOOOO BUY IT DAMMIT!
