Day 16 Song 16

The Eagles – Hotel California

This song makes the cut for the island mix just on the use of air guitar/air drumming alone, while everything else is just a bonus. I don't know how many times I've badly sung this song in the car, on a karaoke mic, or in the shower but this is a perfect song to sing as badly as you want on an empty beach. The imagery of the lyrics along with the harmonies and instrumentals provide a really cool six minute story. This wouldn't be a mixtape without at least one Eagles song in the mix.

That's all for now, more tomorrow!

My class had a test over Magazines, Recordings and Radio recently and had to know that Eagles Greatest Hits 71-75 traded the #1 place with Thriller as far as best-selling albums for a while.

My favorite Eagles song to play as a DJ when the student radio station did Classic Hits on the weekends was "One of These Nights."

Your class sounds like fun if they have to know items like number one selling album of all time.

That's a damn good song too. Love that bass intro and the chorus always stuck out to me. My favorite line is the one about searching of the daughter of the devil and searching for the angel in white.

It's essentially a media history course. The content is dry ( though i love it), but I try to tie it to present day and have class discussions/kahoot games to liven it up.

Media History still sounds interesting. We had to do a bit of that for my early Graphic Design classes. The fun part is when I got to use some of that knowledge in a Women's Studies Course about how sexuality is used even when women aren't in the ad/commercial.

That's interesting. I actually helped a professor with his research in grad school by counting the number of male/female main characters who were alpha/beta in ads.

Love the bass line in "One of These Nights". I tried to learn that one.

I still remember driving a bunch of people home from college one year and playing a bunch of music that people didn't all like. Then I put on The Eagles and everyone calmed down.

The Eagles have such a wide variety of songs that eventually people will find songs that they dig. They did an excellent job of mixing a variety of genres and storytelling.

At times they can be too soft rock for me, but then they have some rockers that Joe Walsh made that keeps me coming back.

I tried getting into covering this song with my band back in 2006 but they didn't get the irony.  bastards.

Your comment made me laugh. I forgot which kid in South Park would scream "You Killed Kenny, You Bastards" but I read your comment again in his voice and I started cracking up.
