Day 18 Song 18

Snoop Dogg – Gin & Juice

In another song pushed on my by MTV (MTV had some power in the 90s) this was one of the first rap songs where I took the time to learn all the lyrics the old school way of listening to the song over and over again writing them down. I was still big on Dr. Dre's The Chronic album so I never picked up an actual copy of Doggystyle but I did copy it from one of my friends and didn't actually own a physical copy until maybe a year ago. This is a song where I can rap the lyrics (again not very well) but its decent and in the PS2 video game Get On Da Mic, I got the high score on this song #HumbleBrag

Quick Hits Time!

Chris Watches...

The Challenge: Invasion – MTV

This was the week where the Champions show up to take on the Challengers and in true MTV fashion the big reveal was in the last 30 seconds of the episode.

Of course the day of the episode some of the Champions tweeted about it just to make sure you forgot.

For the elimination the two men and the two women had to climb this long staircase that went up the side of a hill to the temple on top, grab a bag, go down the steps, hang whatever is in the bag and ring the bell. Seems easy, but it was raining, there were some angry monkeys on the railing and it seems everyone has terrible cardio. One of the contestants was thirsty and decided to cup some water with her hand...from one of the steps. Let me remind you its pouring in this episode and the logical thing would be to tilt your head back and open your mouth. Oh and this was all happening after they had a Burger King feast at their camp.

Other shows, Supergirl had their Valentine's Day episode, and Green Batman (Arrow) just needs Detective Lance to become the next Commissioner to go full on Batman.

Chris Reads...

I have a couple of books on my phone and iPad that are synced up

What Did We Do Before Toilet Paper is a little book that answers random questions like why is the sky blue and other random facts. I'm starting over on The Secret History of the American Empire which is the sequel to Confessions of an Economic Hitman. Its one of those conspiracy books where the author talks about how the government goes into other countries and tinkers with their government. It's interesting. Rosemary is the story about the Kennedy's daughter that nobody talks about. The other books I'll jump into once I finish the ones currently on my plate.

Chris Listens To...

During my trip to the Bay Area I took a break from my 50 new songs a day goal. This wasn't planned. In fact I had my iPod with four playlists of 50 songs to listen to and I figured I would knock them out when I was in the hotel chilling or roaming around but instead when I got to the hotel it was either watch a bit of TV, listen to podcasts, or falling asleep. On the plane ride to and from, it was all podcasts and cat naps. Because of this I'm a bit behind in my goal of 1,400 listened to songs for the month.

I did the math last night and to catch up I need to listen to 77 songs per day for the rest of the month. This isn't a problem considering I now knock out the 50 songs playlist in the morning, and at night when I'm playing games or roaming around the web I listen to the rest. I'm going to knock out the Saturday playlist while finishing this blog entry and other little errands before I head out today to take in the local fair and knock out the other 50 songs on my phone.

Chris Takes Pictures...

A couple of days ago while roaming around Toys R Us checking out any new deals (the local store sells a bunch of the Wave 1 and Wave 2 Lego Dimensions for retail. Its funny seeing them go for $12 when you can take a 10 minute drive to either of the two closest .99 Cents Only stores and get them for a buck there.) Anyways I spotted this

I knew that if I picked it up I would end up at a check out lane so I didn't touch it but finally we get a Lola set. Fitting because a couple of years ago Nick Fury got a flying car too, so why not Coulson's ride from Agents of SHIELD? Also the new Iron Man is the comic book Iron Man not the movie one, so the helmet is different and doesn't flip up.

Walking around yesterday and it was really breezy which in turn got the water moving in the neighborhood lake and it looked pretty

It's a shame the fish weren't nearby because the water was really clear by the edge.

Pickups

Games

No games. I'm working on Mount Backlog, and there hasn't been anything new-ish to me that I really want to try.

Toys

First the Lego

From Toys R Us they have new polybags

I've added another mini Batmobile to the Lego collection. This might be the fourth one in the past couple of years. The Lego made for girls also has a new Superhero line and they have Krypto.

From Walmart, they finally have these in stock

I bought two so I could open one, and put the other in a plastic bin and forget about it. I've been waiting for this one for a bit.

From the same Walmart I found another Batmobile that I may or may not already own in this colorway

If I do I might either open it or give it to my baby cousin who's into Hot Wheels.

The final pickup is shoes

While killing time before lunch we were roaming around the mall and they had a Nordstrom's Rack, and I've had some good luck finding stuff (shoes) for cheap. They were having an additional 25% off on the clearance stuff and I found those Nike Flyknit Runners for $15 after discount. I think the retail is $100. The only drawback is currently I'm trying to break them in and they hurt. A couple of days ago I went walking, and I didn't make it a block before I turned around, and walked home barefoot. Currently I am wearing them around the house to break them in. Hopefully they become as comfy as my other pair of Flyknits that feel like slippers.

Alright Pixlpeeps, I am at song 17 in the Saturday List and I need to get going this morning. I'll probably get to song 20 or 21 after editing the pictures, uploading them, and adding this blog entry to Pixlbit. Oh before I go I thought I would share this other video I've been watching. Her name is Lovely Laura and she is freaking awesome on the saxophone. Thanks to Amazon Music I've had her album on the phone

That's all for now, more later!

Love gin and juice and street performers are some of my favorite parts of being a tourist in a city.

There are some really good ones when you're exploring...of course there are also those dudes who try to sell burned CDs of really bad rap.

Those assholes ruined Venice Beach for me. I gave a reggae CD salesman money just so he wouldn't stab me.

I first hard gin n juice in a 2000s chris rock movie remake.

I hate those guys. I respect the hustle but damn no means no.

MTV morning videos before going to high school. It was the big single that premiered on MTV. I remember reading an article about it in Rolling Stone. Funny story my band director in high school somehow got the school district to ok a subsription to Rolling Stone and we could borrow issues and read up on what was coming out.

That Rosemary book is pretty grim. I caught an interview with the author on the NYT Book Review podcast.

I know a little bit of the story so I can imagine how grim it is. It's really a shame.

I didn't know anything about him until I played Lego Batman 3's DLC and he was part of the controllable characters.

It was such a good album.
