BaD 2017.19: ready for giant bomb.

Since my earlier post about not feeling worthy of applying at Giant Bomb I have had a change in heart. I owe this in large part to the overwhelmingly positive feedback from people here at PixlBit, on Twitter, and my girlfriend. After I wrote that blog I woke up the next day thinking that I would never forgive myself if I didn’t at least give it a shot.
Over the past couple of days I have written, revised, and rewritten my cover letter and resume. I have significantly updated my linkedin profile, which was quite dusty after I began my last job. I combed through my reviews and listened to bits and pieces of Nerds Without Pants episodes, trying to see and hear them from the perspective of someone evaluating my work for possible employment. I compared what I’ve done at PixlBit to some of the content at Giant Bomb.
And you know what? I think I can do this. No, I know I can do this.
The difficult part, as always, is getting far enough to get an interview. I am supremely confident in interviews. In fact, I have landed every job I’ve interviewed for. The problem is setting myself apart from people who have that college degree and more experience with video production. While I have concluded that a college degree is not actually important for this job (the job posting seems to set the bar low for expectations), there will undoubtedly be plenty of people who do have that, so why would you bother looking at applications that don’t?
My last task before submitting my application is producing a five-minute video presentation. Since Giant Bomb has moved more into video content I need to show that I’m comfortable in front of a camera. I can already prove that I’m at home in front of a mic, and I feel that my writing is just as strong as the rest of the Giant Bomb crew. I’ll be doing this video and finalizing my application tomorrow.
I feel good about this. At this point, all I want is a phone interview. If I can get that, I feel strongly that I can make the next cut. Even if I don’t get that far, this application process has lit the fire under me to press forward with my video editing efforts.
