BaD#28

Hello everyone, how are you? Wanted to end it on a high note and post my Game of the Year stuff as my last BaD post. I will post a Game of the Year per platform, not an overall 1 single game because there were a bunch of great games I played last year, and would be hard to choose just 1. I will maybe have my most favorite game of 2016 on a later post, so hope you look forward to that surprise.

Well here are my Games of the Year per platform...

PC/Fangame of the Year:

AM2R

Runner-Up: Big's Big Fishing Adventure 3

As I mentioned before, I've been following AM2R ever since I knew it was a thing years ago. It's amazing what fans can do. The game is remade from the ground up using the assets from Zero Mission. AM2R a Metroid 2 remake in the same way Zero Mission was a remake or the original Metroid. It's fantastic. Unfortunately as I've said before, Nintendo had websites hosting the game to take it down. I downloaded it before Nintendo took it down. I haven't finished it but it's really good. Wish Nintendo would do something like this.

GBA Game of the Year:

Zero Mission

Metroid: Zero Mission was at the time, one of the few Metroid games I never tried. I have played the original on my 3DS and really enjoyed it. I say the wait was worth it. This blows the original out of the water in every way and sets a gold standard on remakes. It also has new content too so it feels familiar yet fresh for fans of the original. This is one of the best remakes I've ever played period.

PS1 Game of the Year:

 Final Fantasy lX

A friend recommended me Final Fantasy lX last year and decided to give it a go. I enjoyed everything about it. To tell you the truth, I don't think I could find one thing I didn't like about it. The battle system is easy to understand, but oh so satifying to master. The music is really good too and really matches what the developers wanted you to feel in certain parts. The story is really good, I always wanted to know what happened next since there were so many twists along the way. As my first Final Fantasy game, it really impressed me.

360 Game of the Year:

Forza Horizon

The only 360 game I played lasy year so obviously by default it gets my 360 GOTY. I always wanted to try Horizon. When I saw that it would be the same as a normal Forza, just more arcade focused in an open world, I knew I had to try it. The game is really good. While it doesn't have the hundreds of cars Gran Turismo has, it has enough for everyone to choose. Hell it has one of my favorite cars which makes it better. The enviroment just looks stunning while you're driving that sometimes I would just drive around rather than racing.

PS3 Games of the Year:

NFS ShiftSly Cooper CollectionJ Stars VictoryNFS Rivals

Runner-Up: RE Revelations, Dengeki Bunko: Fighting Climax, and Disney Infinity

I loved the Sly Cooper Collection. I never had a PS2 at the time so I like these collections on PS3. You get 3 games for a great price. I really loved the first Sly, Sly 2 is better that the first one in every way possible, and while 3 isn't as good, is still worth playing. Objectives feel like something from Super Mario 64 or Sunshine with the open level design and the different objectives working towards the goal. Platforming and thieving have never felt so fun.

I loved NFS Shift, it made me feel like a professional racecar driver. It's more sim like, like Gran Turismo and Forza so it isn't for everyone. It's still a fun game. You have a good enough selection of cars to choose from and you can paint and upgrade them. Courses are really fun and there's races from drift to normal racing to time attacks. You have to go from the bottom and make it to the top on your career to become a pro.

I really enjoyed J Stars. I really feel at home here with all the familiar faces. The cast of characters is really big for an anime fighting game since it has old long time faces like Dragon Ball Z characters to characters from Yuyu Hakusho to more recent anime like Assassination Classroom to The Disastrous Life of Saiki K. The stages are fully destructable and there's plenty to do. This is a fighting game so this is one of those "your mileage may vary" as in how long you'll play it and how much you'll get out of it.

As for NFS Rivals, this is like a compilation of every recent NFS game, well as of 2013. It combines Hot Pursuit, The Run, and Most Wanted into a massive game. It allows you to play as a racer or a cop and you can switch at any time in a safe house. There's plenty to do in a big overworld that has different enviroments. Everyone is your Rival. I am your Rival.

Wii U Games of the Year:

Xenoblade Chronicles XBayonetta 2

Runner-Up: Pokken Tournament and Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE

I remember saying how Xenoblade Chronicles X released on December in 2015 and was towards the end of the year. It really never got the attention it deserved, especially from sites posting GOTY stuff. I played most of the game towards early 2016 and still do from time to time. It may not have had an amazing story as the original Xenoblade Chronicles but the game really improved on the gameplay in so many ways. Especially with the Skells and if you can't tell, I love Skells because it's giant transforming robots! The map is really massive and there's always things to do, be it by yourself or squading up with other players for online missions.

Bayonetta 2 was a game I wanted to pick up around launch but never got around to it. When Bayonetta was announced for Smash, I had a feeling everyone would start buying the game, because Smash has that effect on people. They see a new character and they want to check out the game(s) said character is from. It worked on me in the past. Well in 2016 people were reselling the orginal Bayonetta 2 with the first game bundled for double the price. I managed to luck out and find a new copy for its original price. It's such an amazing action game, it's so over the top crazy. Anyone with a Wii U should check it out and think it is the best third-party exclusive on that platform.

3DS Games of the Year:

Kirby Planet RobobotPokemon Moon

Runner-Up: The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask 3D and Metal Gear Solid 3D Snake Eater

I remember borrowing Planet Robobot and was just amazed at how great the game was. Every level surprised me. You don't use the Robobot armor in every single level, but in the ones that you did were amazing. The armor can also transform into this ship mode and suddenly the game was a 2D Shooter. It can also transform into a car and it was a really cool fast-paced 2D level. The armor, like Kirby himself, is very versatile as it can also copy abilities too. The music is just amazing, they really outdid themselves here. The story is surprisingly dark for a Kirby game, which was a surprise. The game is just packed with content and plenty to do. It also offers us a look at how a 3D Kirby game and how an rpg might work. Gotta give them props for always making Kirby work no matter the genre. That is what I feel is the magic of Kirby. It just works.

As I've said before, I was really excited for Pokemon Moon. I got it for xmas and was really surprised at all the new features and changes. The game just feels so fresh and like a breath of fresh air, even though I never had a problem with the formula. The core gameplay is the same, except for some tweaks but the formula is different. There's no more gyms anymore as they've been replaced by Trial Captains and Island Trials. No longer are there any HM Moves as they've been replaced by Poke Ride. Poke Ride allows you to use this pager and call Pokemon to get you around obstacles or fly you to different areas of the map. Which is like an expanded concept of the Eon Flute from Pokemon OR/AS. There's also new Z- Moves which you activate by using Z- Crystals. Alola Form Pokemon is one of the best things ever in the series, hope they expand on them. I really love the new changes and just can't help but wonder where they'll take the series from here.

Well those are my GOTY awards thing. I saved the best for last. Yes I know I cheated on a few but I've played a lot of great games that I couldn't just choose one per platform. But I guess in the end it doesn't matter as long as you enjoy yourself and have fun with whatever game you're playing.

Well I guess that's it for BaD. I had fun. Hope you all had fun too. Thanks for reading and see you again on the next BaD...

Yet again, it's the remakes making me want a 3DS. I didn't know MGS3 was on there.

I really wish Nintendo would just pay the AMR2 guys and distribute the game themselves.

I played the Nier demo recently and while gameplay was good, i think its dark tone turned me off. I'd rather play goofy stuff like Bayonetta.

The Sly Collection would be my favorite on this list.

FF9 was a great game.  It was the last major FF game I played through, actually.  My GOTY this year was World of Final Fantasy, so if you enjoyed FF9, you might want to try that as well if you have a PS4 or Vita.

Forza Horizon series more arcady and open world? Why did I not check those out? Now I'm really interested. Sim racers tend to annoy me.

I thought I'd like FF9 but that game honestly bored me to tears. Bayonetta, Zero Mission, and Sly 2 on the other hand I highly approve of
