Over the past month I came into a little money and went on a little spending spree. I probably boosted my collection by about 80 physical games and around 30 or so digital on various system. I also managed to snag a back-up Vita, a New 3DS, PS Vita TV, PS4 VR, and a Retrobit Generations. I've also boosted my Skylanders collection quite a bit as well. I've recently cut myself down to 1 day a week at work due to health reasons, so I currently have plenty of free time to enjoy my new goodies.
So where to start? I guess the Retrobit Generations is a good a place as any. When this thing was first announced I was beyond excited. With its vast game line-up from various systems and publishers, this thing was gonna be amazing. I had watched numerous reviews on this thing on You Tube and unfortunately there were a lot of negative ones. Still I figured some of these reviewers were just hyper anal and wanted 100% perfect emulation. So when I finally got the thing in I eagerly hooked it up and began playing. About 5 minutes in I was completely disgusted. The emulation was completely off and ruined about 80% of the titles on this thing. Sure they have the Genesis version of Mercs, but the emulation on this one is so poor its unplayable. Its like they cranked the frame-skip all the way up. Other games like Bases Loaded run just fine, but its missing all the voices. Its really a shame they released this thing the way they did. Im sure they wanted to rush it out to compete with the NES mini, and make a quick buck off the holiday rush and that is about it. If your interested in playing any of the classics on this, then I suggest one of the countless emulators on PC, soft mod an original Wii, or purchase whatever is available on the stores of various consoles.
As for the PS Vita TV, this thing was a let down as well. Like the Retrobit, I really wanted this thing. Unfortunately the compatibility of this thing sucks. I figured I could just sign into my PSN account and download a bunch of my PS1 games I've purchased and play those. Nope no such luck here either since it informs me I have too many active devices. Really? Couldn't you at least let me play the stuff as long as my account is online.
Out of all my purchases the PS4 VR is hands down my favorite. If you have not tried VR yet then you really need to. Its not a gimmick that is going to fade away like 3D. VR is the future of gaming. You simply cannot get a grasp of what VR is like unless you try it. The closest thing I can compare it to is being there. All is not perfect with the PS4 VR though. First off the tracking sucks. It can really pull you out of the game when your constantly holding the Options button to readjust. I loved Job Simulator on my friends Vive VR, but on PS4 its not nearly as fun and can feel really awkward. Why Sony invested so much into VR only to use the same old camera, and move controllers is beyond me. Maybe they didn't want to scare people with the price, but I say at least give people an option to use a better camera.
Anyway, im off to play some games. I'll be sure to post again here soon. Im not really sure what, but maybe I could do something on my Skylanders obsession.
