The gaming top 5 is something I am doing for NWP, but since '98 is also the year I started buying CDs, I'm going to include some musical favorites as well. Maybe movies, since I was always a huge movie buff.

Real quick, though, because I have had to search 4 different places to see what games were released in '98 (why does NO ONE have a comprehensive list of this? Metacritic, Wikipedia, some random ctrf site and Google all seemed to have some missing), here are some gems I might have forgot to mention playing (not necessarily favorites):

Robotron 64: I remember this being a somewhat addictive rental; there are some levels with the turtle in Sly Cooper (Morty?) that mimic this style

Castlevania 64: I think I really liked the dark opening cutscene and not much else

Yoshi's Story: It was an ok game, but Yoshi's constipation and the theme song always get stuck in my head simultaneously.

Forsaken 64: Not sure if I rented this maybe once, but I definitely remember the box art

Mission Impossible N64: I remember liking this. It had some ridiculous gadgets you could use, like cloaking an entire hallway to make it look like something else.

Tekken 3: Might have brought this up last blog, but it's MESSED UP Wikipedia doesn't have this listed for '98 ... or maybe I missed it?

Anywhoo, Top 5 Favorite Games from 1998 ... if we go based on WHEN I WAS 8:

1. Bust-A-Groove

2. F-Zero X

3. Fighters Destiny

4. Tekken 3

5. Pokemon Blue

Favorite songs from '98 (not featuring 98 Degrees):

5. DMX - Ruff Ryders

4. Third Eye Blind - Jumper

3. Eagle Eye Cherry - Save Tonight

2. Semisonic - Closing Time

1. Goo Goo Dolls - Slide

The music list for this year was really hard to cut down for me, since I started buying music this year.

Anyway, I'm gonna go watch Power Rangers on the only day I could possibly drag my friends to it.

It has a low Rotten Tomatoes score, yet every reviewer on YouTube says it's fun but Elizabeth Banks is in a different, cheesier movie. Fine by me. Although whatever this Krispy Kreme plot point is, I always thought those donuts were overrated.

I don't think I've played ANY of these games, though I have played other versions of Tekken and Bust A Move.  Maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaybe I played Forsaken, but I'm not entirely sure.  Maybe I rented it, I can't remember.  I did rent games for the N64 and enjoyed some like Diddy Kong racing and some game where you're some kind of sphere called Inky something or something the other.

Did u see Logan?

Bust a groove; they had to change its name her e since bust a move is already a puzzle game in u.s.

I have the same thoughts on forsaken. I really just remember the box art.

Yup. Liked Logan.

I used to use Allgame.com all the time, obsessively, but it shut down a few years ago now. I saved all the pages but I can't sort the database anymore, so I've used wiki instead. It's not perfect, especially for older games, but I'm making do.

Yeah. It drove me insane.

I was trying to find release dates for old arcade games and had to dig quite a bit to find them. I guess I could've used the Killer List of Video Games site for that. It's a bit better with arcade games.

I could use that myself. I played the hell out of stuff like Area 51 and those extensive Jurassic Park games that had you actually in the jeep.

Since the N64 didn't have two analog sticks, if you wanted to play Robotron 64 properly, you had to plug in two controllers and look like a doofus playing it.

Yoshi's Story was fun, but nowhere near the brillance that Yoshi's Island on SNES was.

Yeah that's right, Pokemon came out in 1998 in the US.  That was definitely the year my game reviewing career at the newspaper really started picking up.

Robotron 64 was fine when i played it. Then again, so was Star Wars SotE and that game's movement feels broken now.

I mostly liked the pop up book aesthetic in sorry.

Yup, and the show and the trading cards are what I honestly remember most. Well ok, the cards were the biggest thing, then the game, then the TV show for me.

I wished you an early birthday, so here's a late birthday: Happy Birthday!

Damn '98 was a good year. Mission Impossible was interesting. I played it on the original Playstation, and I might own it. Bust A Groove was impossible to find at a decent price.

Now music...fun quick story about 98 Degrees. While at the Super Bowl in San Diego, at the Super Bowl experience we were walking around and they were doing their sound check, running through their set on one of the smaller stages and nobody cared. I stopped for a bit before moving on to buy some cards or other randoms.

DMX, Stop! Drop! Shut'em Down, Open Up Shop, oh, no, that's how the Ruff Ryders roll... Love that song. I can guarantee everything on your list (maybe not that Goo Goo Dolls song, but I make up for it with 98 Degrees) can be found on my phone.

Ha, thank you!

I hope Bust A Groove becomes available some other way if it's expensive. I loved that game.

And no one ever would ...

The Goo Goo Dolls is my favorite though ... I love that band, I don't care what anyone says. Looking at the list again, I'm wondering if Barenaked Ladies' "One Week" should have had a spot. That list probably changes every day for me. I love late 90s pop/rock.

The Goo Goo Dolls are a good band but I only have their first album and for one reason or another didn't buy any others. Slide was good but I never owned it so it never got stuck into my music rotation.

One Week is a such a fun pop song, and another song that can be found on my phone.
