they're making a sequel to A Link to the Past on 3DS. At least I think that's what the guy on my facebook feed meant when he said "ALttP sequel."

Well, that was unexpected. I've only played maybe up to the first dungeon in the original. Who all is excited for this? I would be, if I had a 3DS.

Edit: [CST 6:14pm]

Here's the announcement video. I did not know or remember it was Fils-Aime's favorite. That's cool.

Edit: 6:20PM CST That drawing in the walls thing also looks pretty cool, a bit like Fez almost, though more limited.

I'm definitely excited for it. It'll be nice to play another Zelda with an actual overworld.

Yeah, I'm happy they're doing something with the franchise that's 2D again, especially given its particular subtitle and the fact I missed out on it on SNES for the most part.I enjoyed Minish Cap a lot when it came out as well.

Might just have to get a 3DS.

If they make a sequel to it, I at least want them to implement something where you can choose a specific hour at least to time travel to. Otherwise, I wouldn't mind seeing a sequel to that one, either, though as I've said before, the masks and dark story tone did a lot more for me than the time thing.

Check out the 3D video on the 3DS when you get the chance. The effect looks fantastic.

I don't have a 3DS, but when I'm at the local Best Buy or make a trip to Gamestop, I'll see if they have it on the kiosk model.

Now I have to get a 3DS. It realy retains the flavor of the original while adding some cool ideas that don't distract from the vibe of the game. As long as I don't have to use the stylus to control Link this will be gold. The stupid touch screen thing really ruined Spirit Tracks for me. It was just gimicky and regular controls would have worked much better.

I didn't mind the stylus controls in Spirit Tracks, they were at least ironed out from Hourglass. Speaking of which, I should probably beat that game, been at the final dungeon a while now.

I would prefer an option between regular controls and stylus though, if not only cause sometimes I misplace the tiny stylus, or it falls out of its DS "cubby hole" and household items have varied degrees of success as controllers. lol

I guesse I'm just old school, but yeah they should at least give you the option between the two styles of control. This is the same reason I never got Metroid Prime Hunters even though I'm a huge Metroid fan. Played a demo long before I ever got my DS and it just felt akward tapping enemies in order to shoot them.

I have four freakin stylus! lol. The one that came with my DS and three more that were included in the fancy carry case I got for it. The only thing I actually use a stylus for is the Korg DS Synthesizer. It is perfect for that.

I have two, a small and a large. This reminds me once again, I should try actually figuring out how to use my Korg-DS copy. lol

I hear you on Prime: Hunters, though, I still have that demo, controls are just not tight. Honestly, I'm with you on preferring to play with normal controls, but in Spirit Tracks' case, it's just a neat gimmick that I didn't really mind.

YEah I'm pretty excited about this, I have to admit.  I never played through  a Link to the Past in entirety, but I always wanted to.  The "wall movement" mechanic looks really neat too.

Pretty much same here.

well, last time I played a link to the past in practically one sitting.  I also think that it had been nearly 10 years since I had played it before then.  I am excited.  A link to the past is my favourite Zelda game.

I just hate how Nintendo seems to be wanting me to buy their systems.

Well, that's what a company that sells hardware is gonna try to convince you to do. lol

I'd really like to get through ALttP myself, but I got stuck on the mountain that's after the desert temple last time I played.

ALttP is in my Top 3 of favorites of all time, so I am definitely stoked to see them do something in the same style, hopefully with some cool new mechanics. It's such a beloved title, I definitely respect Nintendo's having the balls to dive back into it. Really looking forward to new info on this!

Well, your hope is answered as far as at least one new mechanic in the wall-drawn Link.

I was not expected to be surprised like this today, but I was, pleasantly.

It was a pretty big surprise when I heard it! It's not very like Nintendo to take a 20-year old game and make a sequel to it (wait, they just made a new Kid Icarus...). Anyway, I loved the original and though I doubt this sequel will really live up that, it's one of my biggest reasons to get a 3DS.

I mean, yeah, they're going to have to fit it to today's market, and the original is the antithesis of what I think is "today's market," but it is nice to see more being done with the game many consider the series' best after all this time, and all these Ocarina re-releases; finally, 2D Zelda fans get to have their game a bit more recognized in the modern era, and I have a new chance to play at least its style and world again.

All my favorite Zelda games are the 2-D overhead ones, so I'm excited about this new one.

Also glad to see a release date for Game & Wario.

Game & Wario, huh? I wonder if they'll ever give Game & Watch his own game again. Probably not, but I wonder how much the old Game & Watch games go for....

I for one am pretty stoked about this announcement.

i loved A Link to the Past, and I can't wait to get my hands on the new one. There are so many similarities and additions, I can just feel the awesome-ness seeping from it already!

Yeah, it's cool that they're releasing something more than just a port, but also setting it in the same world.

I'm kind of annoyed by the announcement (not really), because despite being interested in quite a few 3DS games, I've managed to fight the temptation to buy one.  Once this game comes out I don't think I'll be able to fight it anymore.  Not only is ALTTP my favorite zelda game, but also one of my favorite games of all time.

Well, spending money is always annoying, but that's what companies try to get you to do. lol

I would say I'm excited for this, but sadly no 3DS, and no money lol. ALTTP is my favorite Zelda. I paid quite a bit for the SNES version and still haven't played it. After seeing what Yoshi's Island actually looks like on the 3DS I lost interest in it. I much prefer the original's cartoony graphics.

Haven't seen the Yoshi's Island thing yet. Made by the Kirby: Epic Yarn people though, right?

And same here on no 3DS and no money, but maybe that'll change when this comes out?

Looks, good..Even thou I think lttp is over rated!

I never played the whole thing, so I can't make that claim. lol
