Games Beaten

-Shantae (3DS VC - GBC)

For a pre-Advance GB game, Shantae is a technical marvel, especially in the abundance of great animation. Jake Kaufman provides a great soundtrack. On the gameplay side, the game is very solid. There are a number of combat upgrades and items that really help but are unnecessary to beat the game. There are plenty of secrets to find and the game generally makes good use of the animal transformations. Your next objective is not always clear and a map would have been great but still very playable and fun.

Games Bought

I've never been real big into collect-a-thons but my wife loved Banjo-Kazooie back in the day and so I bought her Yooka-Laylee (PS4) for her birthday. After finishing Shantae I finally used my Humble Bundle code to download Shantae and the Pirate's Curse (3DS). Other than PS+, that's it. A month of great restraint! The PS+ game I'm most likely to play, I think, is Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime (PS4), which looks to be a quirky co-op game. Curses 'N Chaos (PS4/Vita) looks really interesting to me as another co-op game but I suspect it might be a little too hardcore on the action front for my wife. Given my love for scifi stuff, I might play through Alien Rage (PS3). Drawn to Death (PS4) has a cool visual aesthetic but I suspect I won't care for the mechanics of actually playing it. Rounding out the month are a couple of total unknowns, 10 Second Ninja X (PS4/Vita) and InviZimals: The Lost Kingdom (PS3).

Now Playing

-Steins;Gate (Vita)

Finally started this time travelling adventure. I'm not far in yet but for a game that supposedly gets very dark later on, it's been pretty hilarious here at the beginning. But there is weird stuff going and I'm very curious to see what will happen next.

-Gradius Collection: Gradius II (PSP)

I'm stuck on a boss rush near the end of the game. Haven't quite been able to manage it in one go and as we all know, you're screwed if you die in Gradius.

-God Eater 2: Rage Burst (PS4)

Coming to the end of the story of the base game. But there is still a lot of content after that point.

-Destiny: Rise of Iron (PS4)

I've been playing this a lot lately, trying to get my alt characters up to speed.

I should try to play Steins;Gate again. I started it once but got bored.

I get kind of bored of anime tropes. IT has a lot. I've heard it's REALLY good though.

It does start a little slow but it has hooks right away about the weird things happening. Plus the characters are pretty funny, I think. I just got to chapter 2.

I downloaded the Vita version. It's on sale for $2.99 this week so I went for it. Maybe I'll play through it this time.

I just saw this JRPG coming in May called The Caligula Effect for Vita. What a strange title.

what does your wife think of Yooka Laylee?

She hasn't started it yet. She's been swamped with other things recently and is still trying to get through Mass Effect Andromeda.

Didn't care much for the Stein's;Gate anime. I actually liked the first half better than the darker second half. Stein's;Gate 0 looks interesting though.

Hmm. I was thinking of watching that depending on how I like the game :/

The first Shantae game is sitll my favorite in the series.  PIrate's Curse is my second favorite.

I have copies of the next two games, so I might as well give them a try! They certainly are pretty.
