Games Beaten

-Nemesis (GB)

On one hand it's impressive how much of the Gradius experience Konami was able to get on the Game Boy. There are recognizable enemies and bosses, the series' signature upgrade system, and even the Easter Island heads! On the other hand it's a pretty short game and not too difficult to beat. It's also kind to the player almost to a fault. You can choose what level to start on and how many lives to have (up to 99!). Plus bad guys drop lots of upgrade pods. But it's fun and impressive for the time.

-Azure Striker Gunvolt (3DS)

I find a lot about ASG very appealing. I love the pixel art. It's very detailed and fluid and there is a lot of variety between the areas of the game. The bosses are interesting and satisfying to fight without being annoying. The characters are pretty good all around. The tag-and-zap mechanic makes for an easier game on the surface but hides a good deal of depth, further augmented by a slew of challenges. You can go as deep as you want. The story can be vague but I liked it. Good game.

Games Bought

June was marginally heavier than May on purchases. I picked up the Azure Striker Gunvolt: Striker Pack (3DS), which includes Azure Striker Gunvolt and Azure Striker Gunvolt 2. I also bought Oxenfree (PS4) during a PSN sale. I hear the story is really good. And speaking of good stories, PS+ included Life is Strange (PS4). Abyss Odyssey (PS3) looks like it could be a cool game if I ever get around to trying it. The same could be said for Killing Floor 2 (PS4). Neon Chrome (PS4/Vita) is supposedly a really good twin stick shooter but watching the trailer, it looks exhausting. Weird. Spy Cameleon (PS4/Vita) looks like some kind of strange speed run stealth game.

Now Playing

-God Eater 2: Rage Burst (PS4)

Made a lot of story progress recently and new gear has started opening up again.

-Destiny: Rise of Iron (PS4)

Really hoping to Platinum Destiny for the sequel comes out in September but there's is one really difficult trophy. Fingers crossed.

-Steins;Gate (Vita)

Took a little break from this game to play Gunvolt. Time to get back into it.

I loved Life is Strange. It's one of my favorites now. I'm going to download this month's free PS+ Until Dawn giveaway too, in case anything happens to my physical copy.

It is always nice having a digital back up. Frustrates me, though, when they give away a game I bought but never played, so I'm glad I played through Until Dawn last year. Good game.

Funny you mention that, cause I rented Until Dawn, played through most of it, bought it a couple months back, didn't play it since aaaaaaand ...

I played some of Abyss Odyssey a while ago. I don't remember why, but it didn't grab me.

It's a little visually bland, I think. I don't often boot up the PS3 these days, though, so the chances of me playing it aren't real great Undecided

I thought it looked interesting, but there was something in the gameplay.

99 lives?  That sounds easier than Gradius Galaxies on the GBA!

The main thing is how often bad guys drop upgrade pods. It's not terribly difficult to get back up to full power. Usually if you die in a Gradius game and go down to your starting pea shooter, you're sunk
