I'm curious about the crafting system. I love building new gear in a game.

So unlike my previous review for God Eater Resurrection this one will be shorter. Reason being that while this game does have differences and continues the story for the series it still is pretty similar. Watch, I say that and its like 5 paragraphs long.
The core aspect that your going on missions to kill Aragami is still the same. The only thing in that regard is that I noticed Survival missions were way more used in this game, especially in the Rage Burst storyline. Survival missions are 3 to 5 battles in a row and healing items only restock if you get them as missions rewards. They can be difficult if you dont properly prepare which my best advice would be to have a weapon set for each Element weakness. Saving them as sets really comes in handy. I wish I had used that feature more in the GE but alas I didnt. They did break up missions by Standard and Hard. Standard is both Story and Free missions and Hard only has Free Missions. They also have Special, Character Episodes and Extra missions. Special is normally more challenging and only pops up after you have beat several in order. Character Episodes are actually like little storylines for getting to know the characters. A lot of the missions you do in theirs are ones you have already completed but they of course have a scene normally at the end of it. I highly encourage doing them and do them as they unlock. Before you know it you have a shit ton to do for all the characters that become available. Extras unlock as the games story progresses. There was a few story missions that I did have to redo, most being Survival ones. You really have to play things smart wise in handling those. They sometimes make you fight and kill 3 Aragami in one fight and then 2 more in the next mission. The final main story mission was 161 for the Rage Burst Storyline. Im at 100+ hours in this game. Its long but I still enjoyed it.
The story itself isnt groundbreaking but it makes sense and even though it covers similar stuff to the first game it does come together to give the world of GE its own identity. GERB takes place 3 years after the first game. While I had hoped they made it where you could import your character from the first game they didnt so you pretty much make a whole new protagonist. You start as a member of the Blood Unit on Friar however on down the line you find yourself right back in the Far East Branch Den with familiar and new faces. I liked that not only did they have new characters but they brought back a big chunk of the previous ones.
The upgrading and crafting system is largely the same. You fight monsters, get materials, and make new stuff or upgrade. However.....The upgrade system was changed a tad and even though its small, its annoying. In GE when you were upgrading your stuff, you knew right away the Rank and materials you would need. Now they dont tell you any of that. Once you upgrade it, unless you havent upgraded in a long time it will just give you question marks. It wont atleast give you what the next rank will be until you reach that rank. I know, that sounds ridiclous to complain about but I really wish they hadnt of changed it. Atleast tell me the next rank dammit! Its the same regardless of weapon, gun or shield. You can still craft upgrades and clothes.
Using your weapon, gun and shield the same for the most part. you do get Blood Arts for the melee weapons which give you an extra ability or make your attacks stronger. I havent used anything outside of the Scythe so I cant speak much on this but they did have one that gave extra hits so to speak and I wont lie. I used it through the whole game*NO SHAME*. The BA increase in levels by being used. The one I used had 4 upgrades and I had it maxed way before the endgame. There is also Blood Bullets which I used a lot of too. They gave you stronger gun damage and like the BA they level by using but they also give you more types to use. In my previous review I talked about how you couldnt be a straight gun weilder in these games which is still true in this one but they gave you a reserve bar and you could stash OP all the way to level 9 and then unload on the Aragami. Depending on the bullet you use, will deicde the amount you get to shoot off but its still quite a bit. The more OP needed for a bullet, the more powerful shot. They also have a bullet editor but I wont lie, never used it. I didnt even find how to access it till the last minute.
Some more new stuff they added were the Support Link Device and the Rage Burst system. The SLD gives you bonuses on missions. All the NPCs have one and you can create more in the craft system. Some would ensure you break a bond, have increased defense, or revive you to full health if you faint while its active. They have different start times too from some being at the beginning to some taking 5 to 10 mins to activate. The SLD system I do like, Rage Burst? Not so much. So Rage Burst essentially what I believe is there to help you, especially if a mission is going haywire and shit is getting ugly. What it is, is a pain in the ass that isnt worth touching. The system itself works in that once you have 100% evoke rate you can use it. You can save up all the way to 400%. When activiting it, a screen pops up and you pick the target and the pledges that you will do to enter Rage Burst. Pledges range from breaking bonds, doing damage, and even getting so many hits on an enemy. You have only seconds to do your pledges. If you do not complete them you dont enter RB, the system shuts down and you lose 100% evoke rate. Now if you by chance complete your pledges you enter RB and for the most part your invincible. You dont take damage, your attack strength is increased, stamina isnt used, and it doesnt last long at all. Now the NPCs can help with pledges but that doesnt mean you will get them finished in time. Personally, I rarely used it. I just feel like its not worth it not even to try and pull yourself out of a mission thats gone to hell. I honestly would rather restart the mission then even use it.
Overall: I had a lot of fun with the sequel. The story kept me interested, the music is still fucking fantastic, and while some might say the combat in it leaves much to be desired I honestly love stuff that just lets you hack your way around. Hell, Dynasty Warriors has never gotten old to me and Ive played it since the PS2 days. I really hope GE is a continued series. I think there is still story material in it and Id love to return to the Far East. Right now the team that does GE is actually working on Code Vein so If it is gonna be continued it probably wont be till 2019 or 2020. In a way, kind of sad but I am interested in Code Vein so maybe it will tide me over.
Well.....I lied.....it was long just like the first. Its also 6 paragraphs. Well regardless, those that read this I appareciate it. I really feel like my reviews of course arent the greatest and people probably get tired mid way through reading them but for those who do, I big time appreciate it. It means a lot to me to have some where I can put these and not feel like Im being judged. So thanks for reading, it means a lot to me.
