A REALM RE-REBORN

Image result for a realm reborn

I got vanilla FF xIv mmo for PS4 because it was on sale for $10. I played this game during the original FF14 launch on ps3, then the Remake, and so this is the 3rd time starting over, but on PS4. There was a transfer program for PS3 to PS4 because FF14 is being shutdown on PS3, but I didn't pay attention to that, thus I had to buy the game again on PS4 to play.

I was pretty surprised how much game is available with the free demo/trial thats out. You can play up to level 35, and thats like 8 dungeons and a lot of content without subscription, but I decided to buy tha actual base game, called the Starter Edition, which is the main game without the expansion. I'll get expansions when I get to end game of A Realm Reborn. The game has changed a lot and feels more streamlined than I remembered. I love the world and combat, and the dungeons are really fun. I'm leveling pretty quickly actually, so I should be there in about a month or two. Maybe get DLC for holiday season.

My main issue with the game so far is the waiting times for dungeons. I'm burning through a lot of the main story content, but there are very annoying wait times to get into dungeons, and I've been reading books or browsing twitter while I wait. If you're not familiar with the game, you cannot progress the story without completing dungeons first, so they feel like road blocks at times, although very fun when you do play them.

I recommend trying out the Free Trial since there is no subscription fee or registration necessary. Just download, create username and pw and jump in.

The sale is over so the vanilla base game is full price again, but I transfered my progress from the demo to full game, so you can play the free demo and wait for a sale in the future. and transfer too.

The Secret World Legend

The Secret World is one of my favorite games ever. Yes, its an MMO, but it has really good story content and is a really good RPG. My biggest gripe against it was that it was too difficult to solo through, especially towards the end of the beginning area, where I hit a progress wall because of the mobs/combat spike.

The game has been reworked and turned into a more approachable action RPG for solo players, so I'm interested in seeing the new changes since it's still an MMO. I really enjoy the world, lore and characters of the game. It's a very unique modern take on horror themes that I don't see video games really doing, especially not role playing games. It's very Supernatural or Stephen King-like worlds with modern settings and action.

Xenoblade Chronicles WiiU

Speaking of MMO-likes. I never finished XENO on WiiU. It's such a massive game. Very beautiful, but very, very long. I want to finish it before the new Switch game comes out. I'll add it to my MMO Summer.

Metro Last Light

Pixlbit! Why didn't y'all tell me this game was so darned great? As I play through the remaster on PS4, I'm confused as to how this game isn't talked about or mentioned in the same way that other franchises or series are. It feels like a mashup of Bioshock and Metroid Prime. It's a very directed FPS experience with characters and dialog, but also stealth and it balances out combat sections and stealth sections along with story parts really well. I can't wait for Exodus. This is one of my favorite games of all time.

Anyone else playing/played FF14? Secret World? Xeno WiiU? Metro Last Light?

The metro series is one of my favorites of all time. I replay 2033 and Last Light at least once a year. For a Nerds Without Pants podcast segment I picked Last Light as my favorite game of 2013. I'm also trying to convince people to play both games before Metro Exodus comes out so people can be caught up on the story. The metro series has my favorite atmosphere and post-apocalypse Moscow is the most beautiful and depressing setting. I love it.

A creative type of depressing too. A swampy sewage venice city with shrimp monsters? There are so many wonderful set pieces, and it does feel like a long hellish journey, much like The Last of Us. The story tube and linear design make sense since it takes place in a tunnel world, so it didnt really need to go open world, but I'm excited nonetheless for what the devs will do. I will also replay these games over and over from now on like Bioshock or Metroid Prime.

Final Fantasy Fourth-time I've Started... :)

I want to play this too, but somehow I lost my login for PS4 and it's not letting me get it back.  I'm gonna have to play on PC.

The base game was on sale on Steam recently. Seen a lot of game key sales for PC version too. Why did you start 4 times? You played all the betas like me?

yeah man, I played the original version. Then I played the ps3 version. Then I think I played the new PC version. And I've also briefly played the PS4 version.  I really want to play it again though, I keep hearing such great things about it, and I do like it, just don't always have  the time.

Things have been tough on DPS lately, especially with Stormblood coming out. But I've been playing XIV for the past few months almost exclusively, even as my backlog keeps growing.

What do you mean by tough on DPS? Is it referring to Duty Finder? The biggest problem is finding a tank or healer, which has always been a problem for DPS queues, at least in my experience with the game. Haven't played until recently, but I'm assuming everyone is on the DLC, thus duty finder is low pop. There are huge time gaps between dungeons, so I'm okay with this. I usually just switch jobs and level up or craft while I wait, but its annoying when I want to schedule play time but can't progress due to long queues. Oh, and when the timer extends the time, oh my god fucky you FF14!!! I originally played as a healer or tank to avoid this situation, but now I'm trying out Archer/Bard and Lancer. What server are you on and do you have a linkshell/guild?

Yeah, finding tanks and healers has always been an issue, but with two new DPS jobs added with Stormblood the queues got even longer, at least for a bit. Things are evening out for my server. My friend and I are both DPS and we got into the storyline duties we had to do very quickly today.

I'm pushing story and dungeons to get to 50 at least before my free month ends. I'm around 40ish, so not too long. I know there is a vertical climb, lvl 50 dungeons, before expansions. My plan was to reach end game month 1 and then grind out 50s month 2 to setup for expansions later. The wait times have been dreadful. I'm usually on the internet or reading a book while I wait.

I have all the Metro games on my Xbox from either sales or Games with Gold. With my new games list, I might actually get to one of them. Ah yes, 2033 and Last light were free back in 2015. I want to read the books they were based on too. Such an interesting story.

They are old school, story driven FPS with stealth parts, but also pure action parts and wonderful atmosphere. If you liked Bioshock, or Deus Ex maybe. Really cool!

I can't wait to get to them.

I need to restart realm reborn but my job tanked for a bit. It has since picked up but Im still unsure when Ill be able to rejoin in. Im actually hoping they port Xeno on WiiU to Switch. I really wanna play it again. However if they even do it will be after the new one launches.

Why restart ARR? You don't have an end game char. yet for Xpansions? The worst part is starting a fresh MAIN because you have to do all the tedious STORY parts from the beginning and queue up for dungeons which take forever. Since I just bought the game I have 30 days free, plus I'll sube for another month or two and try to reach ARR level cap and then look into DLC for holiday maybe. I just need to have leveled characters on my new account. What class are you doing? I'm doing Archer/Bard for now.

Well i had to rebuy the game so essentially Im using my second account. Ive never gotten far in the story stuff with any character. I need to of course. I have all the way up to heavensward expansion wise. Wont buy Stormblood till im close to reaching it.

asrealasitgets

Oh. Okay. I've reached end-game for ARR before, but then there wasn't much to do besides grind for gear at that point. They've made a lot of changes over the years to make things more accessible for casual players, like Duty Finder, repeatable quests and such, but I had to start a new account, so I have to climb a mountain again. What was the highest level you reached? I'm at 30 right now, so just 20 more levels to end game for my Archer. I did it pretty fast too.

I wanna say I reached level 20 atleast on an old character. I know It wasnt more then 25 for sure.

Thats where a lot of sidequest content dries up and there are larger gaps between dungeons. Up to lvl 20, It's still a lot of content, especially if you start leveling other classes too.

I've kicked around the idea of playing FF XIV for a long time but the sheer time commitment always pulls me back (I'm not really an MMO person anyway). I like that it's so story-focused and since we got a second PS4 this year, my wife and I could play it together. That's a big motivator. I've always wanted to play the Metro series and even have the remaster collection but haven't gotten around to it yet Yell

I mean, it is a very linear JRPG experience. You level up to lvl 20 in no time and there are at least 3-4 dungeons that are easy and fun. There is a lot of game even in the demo. I think the combat is pretty streamlined and fluid. It's a very beautiful game and worth checking out at least. I'm basically soloing alot of it, except for dungeons which I'm doing with randos. To each their own. I think its a good game despite it being an MMO. I felt the same about The Secret World and Star Wars the Old Republic, which surprisingly became more linear RPGish games. LOL!
