So here I am, Sunday morning not out of bed and watching the last stage of the Tour de France. I was meaning to write this on Friday but I was tinkering with a project that I am still not finished with, and I had a CD Friday trip so I was busy with that. Saturday I was going to write but again I was still tinkering a bit before deciding the weekend is for sleep and being lazy, which leads us to right now. Here I am, watching folks on bicycles finish up one hell of a race. Let's catch up on the non gaming things Chris has been up to.

Chris Watches...

Game of Thrones – HBO

It's back, I'm happy and of course I'm waiting to see which major character gets taken out. Since this is a short season and I don't have that one guaranteed episode to see who gets taken out. I've been watching the East Coast feed because it comes on at 7pm on the West Coast but it looks like tonight I will have to watch the West Coast feed because there is a WWE Pay Per View on the Network that I will watch. Quick Overview of the episode: I liked it especially with the cold opening because it feels like it flows with the end of last season into one seamless transition. It was nice getting one episode where all the questions from the last season get answered and we can move on with the storyline.

The Challenge: Dirty Thirty – MTV

My favorite reality sporting event is back and even if the field is filled with folks from Are You The One, there are still a lot of favorites from previous seasons. The big twists this season is that there is more money for the winners (the players don't know this) and the folks that were kicked out are in a redemption house which means they will probably challenge the current cast at some point.

Big Brother – CBS

The four booted contestants had a shot to compete to get back in the house. The drawback was that one person from the house had to face them in the finals and if they won, nobody would re-enter the house. If the booted contestant won, they're back in. Cody is back which is fun because when he was in the house I was annoyed with him, but after watching the mess Josh became I can't wait for Cody to return to continue their bad blood. Cody said that all Josh did was make “victim noises” (constant whining) and it's true, dude complains, and always tries to be the victim.

Chris Listens...

In my list of tracks with zero plays I'm down to around 2500 tracks because of my latest pickups. I'm still at a solid pace and two weeks ahead of where I should be so hopefully I can knock out the remaining tracks.

Chris Reads...

Captain America Steve Rogers 2016 – Issues 1-13

I'm not a big Cap fan but this was a fun read especially towards the end because it is about Civil War II. While reading this it seems my approach of binge reading a character's run of issues is hampered by overlapping storylines from other issues. It's not a big deal, but you are left saying “what is this?” This only happens for a couple of panels and then I'm back on track. As for the storyline, at first I was a little hesitant but after reading two issues I am all in and I really like the jump to the past to the present, kind of like what Arrow does where it flashbacks to give the reasoning to why the current character is doing something.

Invincible Iron 2016 – Issues 1-12 (I haven't read Issues 13-14)

At first I was a little worried about the direction of the story until it was explained and again I am hooked. It's a little different from the movies (which is what I am familiar with) but again I quickly caught up and I like Tony Stark because he's so flawed yet funny. I also like that a certain Spider person is included as well as another from his story. This storyline would make a great Iron Man flick. Anyways the end of this storyline dips into the Civil War storyline so what I read in Captain America is starting to make sense but I do need to get some back story so after I finish the comics on my tablet I need to grab the one off Agents of SHIELD book as well as any of the other Civil War II stuff.

Randoms

Last week a person on my Facebook Friends list posted a rant about how the music of their generation was better because it involved “actual instruments” “story” and other BS that people like to throw out to justify their point of view. I countered with this

00

Now I get people like their music. I believe that my era of music is the greatest but at the same time I know there is a huge bias because that's the music that spoke to me, and I grew up with. There are a lot of good music sprinkled into today's music and who am I to say that this era's music is garbage? This stuff will have the same effect on its listeners that mine did with me. What bothers me is how especially this person is so quick to judge. He's older and a lot of his views are extremely bias. I block a lot of his content but every so often I will speak up because I think it is complete BS to put down something just to further your opinion.

Pickups

Games

First game I bought during a one day Steam Sale

01

The game is $8.99 but I splurged and also threw in the sound track and it came out to I think $11.99.

*The Tour de France just ended so I went back to watching the ID Channel.

The next game was a freebie from Humble Bundle

02

I didn't care for the sequel on PS4, but I grabbed this one anyways because it's free and you never know, somewhere down the line I might enjoy it. Did I mention it was free?

Music

So let's start with the new CDs. From two different trips to Target

03

This is Kristin Maldonado's solo EP Kristin. She's one of the singers in the acapella group Pentatonix and she has a good voice but it is a shame this is over produced that at times covers her voice. Unfortunately that's the style of current music and maybe when she releases a full album there are more tracks to showcase her talent.

The second trip to Target I bought these albums

04

I'm not a fan of this Rick Ross album. It just didn't connect with me like his previous albums. Maybe it'll grow on me with multiple plays but for right now, it's just not my thing. The Calvin Harris album I bought for the single Feels feat. Katy Perry, and Big Sean (I really like Katy's hook). Remember what I said about Kristin's album being overproduced? It applies to this whole album but at the same time this could be my summer album. Everything is all poppy goodness.

Now the used stuff from the Mom & Pop. First up the Buy 5 Get 3 for $1.99 each

05

Back in college I had a digital copy of this Vanessa-Mae album. Now I have a physical copy. She's a classical violinist who's music is classical with an electonic/pop twist. I already own all the tracks on this Mariah Carey album even the new track on iTunes, but I wanted a physical copy.

06

I'm curious to listen the bootleg tracks on this Fugees album. I heard they were making a new album on the Joe Budden podcast and a day later I stumble upon this CD. I thought the Motown meets The Beatles concept sounded interesting but after listening to a couple of tracks I don't think I'll be a fan of it because of the pacing of the songs. Its different that the originals and it throws me off.

07

I haven't listened to either of these albums but I am curious about the Bel Biv DeVoe remix album.

These two albums is a blind buy for me.

08

I found this next album in the 90s-2000s section and for $4 why not

09

I like Sublime, so this was a must listen.

Hot Wheels

From the Dollar Store I found these cars

10

Another Green Arkham Knight Batmobile and the Gas Monkey Corvette. Growing up my pops had a Corvette with the similar body style (I think late 70s) and I thought it was a cool car. As for the Gas Monkey Garage show, I've never watched it.

And I added two more James Bond Spectre Aston Martin DB10s. I might open one now.

11

And finally from the Target trip where I bought the Calvin Harris CD I spotted this five pack

12

I can't find the new casting of the Adam West Batmobile so this is the next best thing. Also it is different from the last Batman five pack I found a year ago.

Alright Pixlpeeps, I'm hungry and there is a Bacon Cheeseburger in the fridge calling my name. This is also a good time to get up, play some games before the next WWE Pay Per View starts. Have a good rest of the weekend!

That's all for now, more later!

-Chris

Ok before I go here's the song that got stuck in my head to the point where I needed to buy the CD. Thanks local radio station

Hot Wheels must put out different casts of their cars every few years because when I looked up a picture for the 60s Batmobile I bought the other day, I saw several different ones with the same logo on the box.

Yeah they tend to reissue the same cars. The current line of Batmobiles have been out for a couple of years but I could never find the 60s car on the pegs. I found an older release from a couple of years ago at the swapmeet but that's as close as I could get, until I found the five pack.

It seems like they iterate on each car. The one I have is different from the previous ones just a few years older.

Yep the Batmobiles I have been collecting for a couple of years now have only been different paint jobs. Doesn't stop me from buying them and at some point I'd like to get some sort of display.

I preferred Mariah Carey when she used real vocals. Tongue Out

Actually, I grew up thinking Nirvana was the most popular 90s anything and not even being aware of her clear chart dominance at the time.

I also grew up hating my older brother's grunge and metal garbage, and listening mainly to pop-punk, until I got into the harder stuff around 13/14.

I get kind of annoyed when metal musicians start bashing popstars on-stage as if they're in any way direct competitors. That's why Corey Taylor's graceful response to the "Psychosocial/Baby" mash-up is refreshing.

I still think we deserve better when we have 60s/70s style political discontent, but nothing to match Creedence or Hendrix or anything. Although I guess Lemonade, 4:44, and DAMN. (still need to listen to my copy) are the new generation's politically charged masterpieces.

And hey, I still have the Stone Sour CD I can't stop listening to, while everyone else on this site is infuriatingly "meh" about it. Lol

There's no accounting for taste, which is why AV Club annoys the shit out of me with some of their judgmental music posts. I was happy to see people call them on their crap when they mocked the new Justice League poster and people thought it was a cool Alex Ross tribute.

Hahaha music snob Tongue Out

She had a crazy run at #1 hits. Her debut album I remember was one of the first CDs I got at Christmas for my new CD player. I was all about the Walkman up until that point.

Nirvana was big too but chart wise Pop was still king. I wasn't big into Nirvana during their rise, I was getting into rap, and then I found Blink 182.

I think in the coming years people will look at certain bands in the same light as CCR. Back in the 60s/70s music was an event. Now we have so many outlets to listen to music that there is so much out there. If we only had the handful of artists that made it to mainstream media there would be greater competition but now anyone with a laptop, decent mic, and some skill can get their music publish. The good stuff is there but we just have to dig a little more.
