Last blog was a bit of a downer. Sorry to throw all that shit on you after a long absense. This blog will hopefully be better.

So what have I been up to? Not much in the realm of gaming apart from some nostalgic hits. Been listening to a lot of music though. Before I get into that, is anyone watching Game of Thrones? I didn't really like the last two seasons much, but this season has been fucking awesome so far.

Also: Anyone watch the new Rick and Morty ep? It was pretty solid. Not the best we've seen, but enjoyable nonetheless. I liked the more prominent inclusion of Summer.

Music

Tyler the Creator - See You Again

Tyler the Creator dropped a new album, and I fucking adore it. I hated Cherry Bomb, and I kinda thought I'd outgrown Tyler. But he's grown up and is oddly introspective. He's come out of the closet now, and lets the audience know in in a really vulnerable way.

But this song, See You Again won't get out of my head. Usually RnB ain't my jam, but this song is amazing.

Ne Obliviscaris - Intra Venus

This song has a stupid name. However, it's a kinda dope metal song that more maturely mixes the elements of folk, classical, and metal. I'm keen for the new album.

 Leprous - Stuck

Not a huge fan of Leprous new rock direction. This is a radio edit of the song, so hopefully the full song is a bit proggier, or the rest of the album.

I haven't had much time for TV. It's more about music right now. I'm trying to finish up ripping music to actually play again.

Morty's arm was a great gag in that episode, love how he got attached to it like it was ET or something. My favorite bit was the Jerry stinger after the credits, really looking forward to how they handle his and Beth's divorce.

Wind - 2
Jerry - 0.

It was a good ep, just not a top tier ep. Which is fine, but after the wait, it almost feels like this was another season opener and as such was a bit weird that I wasn't wowed as much.

Still, the family stuff was great, but a mad max parody felt a bit forced and like the really early stuff.

It was forced (most the parodies are like the Purge episode), but it's more how they subvert things than the parody itself. Ending with Rick creating a modern society only to take it away was freaking brilliant, and like I said before, Morty's arm was hilarious. But I agree, good not great.

The Purge episode was brilliant though and felt like the best Community parodies: it was needed for the characters, and they ended up making the movie The Purge should have been. If you haven't seen them, The Purge movies are drearily dull on the violence front and lack any form of imagination. The Purge ep had imaginative deaths and heartfelt and dark character moments.

Eesh, not really into that new Leprous track either. I'm with you, hopefully the album is proggier than that.

Check out the Ne Obliviscaris track if you can handle growls. They have string sections, acoustic guitars, and alternating distorted and clean vocals. Plus, they're aussie and one of my friends cousin is in the band so I always have to give them a shout out.

Those guys are great and the new track is solid. I really dig their stuff - pretty cool that you've got connections to the band in a weird way!

LEPROUS's lead singer vaguely reminds me of SOAD. Their sound does a little bit too, tbh. I dug the acoustic guitar parts to the Intra Venus song. I was skimming these, so I wasn't a fan of the heavy vocals part, but I never really have liked that style of scream. I'm not into the Tyler the Creator track for the same reason: I just can't get into his voice.

I was listening to all of Slipknot and Stone Sour's discographies while I played Mortal Kombat XL. Good times. Except for Stone Sour's self-titled. I liked the singles from that one, but otherwise it just all kind of blandly ran together.

Love this season of Thrones. I'm not a fan of the short season but each episode has been really good.

As for music, it never clicked with me with the Tyler music. I'm just not a fan.
