Carrier Aces was one of my all time favorite games on any platform and the simple truth is, theres not much to it,  you can play single or split screen split screen was my favorite

since you and a buddy take the role as a Japanese or US carrier with 12 planes on each carrier, and the object was simple protect your carrier and destroy your opponents.

The really cool thing about this game was if you got on your opponents tail in a dog fight and shot him up you cause the plain realistic damage like oil leaking out of the plain and if you flew to close up on him oil would be hitting your plane. Or if you shot the rudder off they cant steer the plain, it was these little effects that made this game so tense and real. Then the Torpedo bomber when you flew in close to drop that torpedo and the aa guns are just shredding you, or doing a dive bombing run not knowing if you will be able to pull out of the dive all the while fighters and aa guns are trying to destroy you. This was most definentlynone of my all time faves and playing with a freind was just awesome so if you have never played this on the snes I would highly recommend you checking it out just a blast to play and you must play it.

This was a great game. For some reason it reminds me a bit of Starwars Battlefront, especially the aerial dogfights, split screen mode, and minor resource management. Granted,Carrier Aces didn't have ground oriented troop battles too but considering the limitations of the time it was a remarkable piece of work!

Hadn't heard of this before, so is it like Ace Combat before Ace Combat, but with a "building your carrier" bent going on?

Even if it's got a lot of differences from modern dog fighters, your description sounds awesome.

No its nothing like ace combat you basicly have a carrier with 12 planes that you can set as how many will be fighters, dive bombers, and torpedo bombers and in campaign mode you go up against scenerios as it was in the pacific war and in slit screen you have to send planes on scouting missions to locate the enemy carrier etc. it really was a very good game for the time.

I loved this game when I was younger. I wish I knew where the copy I had of it ended up. Probably still at a old friend's house where I visited and then forgot to pack it up. Shame, really.

I do remember this game as being a lot of fun. I was into anything involving carriers at the time it came out. So I found it hugely entertaining.  Think I saw this one in Indiana last week, too.
