Sup cunts. Long time no see. What have you been up to?

Hey Knuckles, what are you doing to that pole buddy?

I've been playing Sonic Mania. A lot. I've finished it 3 times now and I kinda want to play it again. It is definitely the best Sonic game ever, but I have 2 main gripes with it. Firstly, the lives system should have been axed in my opinion. I can get a decent amount of lives and get through the game without a game over screen for the most part, but still. It's annoying to have to restart a zone because of a cheap bullshit crush death or something you couldn't see coming.

The second complaint is a super minor one, but I don't like the way Super Sonic works. The courses to get him are fun, so I want to do them, but I don't like getting Super Sonic too early or I activate him all the time accidentally because all you have to do is have enough rings. He's cool, but his music overwrites the stage music and you miss the entirety of most levels because he's invincible and moves too fast. Oh, and you can't use one of this games best editions: the jump dash, because it just activates super form. He's fun when you first get him, but he should have been bound to a different button.

I also got the Necro DLC for Diablo 3, and it's my new favourite class. If you like making things explode, you need this asap. My current build mainly prioritises making one thing dead as fast as possible so I can use its corpse to cause an explosion, creating more corpses to make deadly bombs out of. It's really fun, but it's still Diablo 3. And I paid $24 for this dlc. I don't regret it, but that's fucking steep for a class and some cosmetics for it.

But I got another 50-60 hours of fun out of it, so I really can't complain.

Battlefield 1 is my current stress relief game. The multiplayer is a blast, and the technological restraints make gunplay so much more entertaining. Loving this game so far, even if it is a touch buggy. I had 5 people in a tank at a capture point when all of a sudden the tank disappeared, we were all left in the open, and we all died just before we captured the flag. Cunts.

Now, music, because entirely too much has been coming out.

Queens of the Stone Age - The Way You Used to Do

I don't like this song at all. It sounds so toothless. Queens have always been good at mood and subtle aggression, with even the mellower songs slapping you around the head. This is so bland.

Leprous - Mirage

Guys, the new Leprous album doesn't suck! The song they decided to use as a single is still godawful, but the rest of the album is a lot moodier and somber. It's nowhere near the heights of Bilateral or Coal, but it's maybe on par with The Congregation, which is definitely the album it sounds the most like.

milo. - Landscaping

Milo is back with his nerdy understated raps about philosophy, literature, video games, and adventure time. His vocabulary pays his rent, but the beats are fucking beatuiful this time too. Not his best, but still pretty darn great.

I want that Diablo stuff! Sounds divine.

I was really into Queens of the Stone Age a year or two ago. I'll have to check out the new one even though you say it's not like their other stuff.

Oh it is ;)

I've only heard 2 or three songs off the album, and I have heard that the opening 3 tracks are the worst songs on the album. Apparently it gets better. I hope.

Just grabbed the album from Apple Music and will be listening to it in it's entirety shortly.

I refuse to believe that Josh could do anything I don't like, it's unpossible.

Just listening to the second last track now "The Evil Has Landed" I was right, Homme did not let me down. Yeah there's a swamp boogie thing going on in The Way You Used To Do but there are twists and turns in the track that I think are well done. Overall it's a keeper.

I feel the album is really a mixed bag. There are some phenomenal tracks, like the one you mentioned and Fortress, but there are quite a few duds, and even on the good tracks the production is so flat and lifeless.

Sonic Mania is pretty neat.  I don't like how it saves your progress, though.  I know the first few Sonic games wouldn't save your progress at all, and while I like returning to classic game sensibilities, not being able to save when you want to should always be a thing of the past.  I just don't like having to start over from Act 1 of a world if I have to stop and go do something else.  I'm not a kid on summer vacation anymore, I'm an adult who sometimes has to stop and do things like, say, go to work. That'll just slow down my progress in the game and I may not be able to play it as much as I want.

I loved the second boss in the new Chemical Plant Zone, though.  It just blew my mind!

I hate that too. I'm not always up for playing two stages in a row, and a mid act save would be a godsend.

That boss was great! It kinda cemented that this game was a classic for me, and showed that this team had a blast making this game.

darn everyone around here is playing Sonic Mania. Is that on Switch?

Good to hear from you. I hope you're not on death's door anymore. Fucked up how our bodies are fucking insane, treacherous cages eh?  Tongue Out

yeah but Nintendo tax pays for the bloated Nintendo military, and what will we do without that????

I wasn't going to buy it on Switch because Sony doesn't tax purchased but Nintendo does. But I love playing the game at the kitchen table and that made me spend the extra 3 bucks.

I still need to find enough big rings and get the emeralds for Super Sonic. I got three, but the third one took me a while to figure out I needed to take that one shortcut.

Took me a bit. Wait until you to the 6th ring though. God that one took me so long.

If you had told me a year ago that everyone would be going CooCoo for Cocoa Puffs over a new Sonic game I would question whether your meds were working. Yet here we are.

I wanna get Sonic Mania. I'm not too good at Sonic games though. That sucks they kept in the lives system, you'd think they would have thought of something better for a modern audience.

Man, that Queens of the Stone Age song does suck. I only know of that band from their biggest song (forget what it's called).

One tip for Sonic that I didn't learn until Sonic 3: Don't go fast all the time. Take your time, explore. You'll get more rings, more lives, and more bonus levels which result in moves or Super Sonic which basically makes you super fast and almost invincible until your rings run out. I'm not saying don't go fast because that's one of the joys of Sonic, but don't rush. Explore and enjoy the stages.

You've also got elemental shields which now give you jump abilities: The fire one makes you charge through the air, the water one puts you in a bubble and makes it so you can't drown and you can also bounce, and the electric one allows you to walk on magnetic surfaces, draw rings to you, and double jump.

Those help a lot with the difficulty, and make classic Sonic a bit more managable for peeople who haven't grown up with the games.

Guess I am going to have to get Sonic Mania.  Thankfully I have heard that the trophy list sucks, so I will be playing on my shimy new Switch.

I havent played Sonic Mania but I have seen it in action and I might get it at some point. From what I saw they did an excellent job on the game.  I know several Sonic fans that were extremely happy with it.

Diablo 3 Necromancer DLC I bought day 1. I was soo excited for the new class. I played it quite a bit but Im now waiting to play through the whole game with a friend that wants to. Super excited to go through with the Necromancer. I beat the game a long while ago with a Wizard.

I hope you have been good. Ive mostly been working and playing games when I have free time. Hasnt been terribly much of that sadly.
