Firstly, thank you pixlbit. I had this blog fully written out, only for it to decide to refresh and delete my blog. So, maybe an autosave feature? Until then, long blogs are terrifying.

 I finished my album: https://whatsacow.bandcamp.com/releases

I swear if no one reads this blog, I'm done. Here are my Influences.

Best Albums Since 2000

Maudlin of the Well – Leaving Your Body Map

One of my all time favourite. This is the band that got me into extreme metal. A mix of classical, Folk, Indie, Jazz, and Metal.

Agalloch – The Mantle

Acoustic Metal? Post Rock? Whatever you call it, it's a must listen.

Alcest – Ecailes De Lune

Pretty metal

Deafheaven – Sunbather

Even prettier metal

Cynic – Carbon Based Anatomy

It's an ep, but it's the best thing they've ever done, even if there is no metal on it.

Tyler the Creator – Flower Boy

Tyler comes out in his most personal album. It's beautiful, layered, and the best album of the year so far.

Earl Sweatshirt – I don't like shit, I don't go outside

The opposite of Tyler's album. Dark as fuck, about being antisocial, evil, and it's just plain awesome.

Aesop Rock – Impossible Kid

One of the best lyricists in the game is back with a more straightforward album. You'll still need a thesaurus, but you can generally make out what he's saying this time around.

Busdriver – Perfect Hair

Busdriver's flow is like a saxophone. It's unpredicatable, but you can't turn it off.

Open Mike Eagle – Hella Personal Film Festival

This was my least favourite of Open Mike's albums for so long. But it grew on me, and now with the Lyrics and Paul White's instrumentals, this is an amazing album.

Danny Brown – Atrocity Exhibition

Another Paul White Production, this couldn't be more different. Open Mike Eagles is Funk and Soul inspired, this is distorted and weird. Suits Danny though, who has breaks down, talks about the dangers (and fun) of addiction, and goes fucking insane.

Leprous – Coal

The darkest Leprous Album is just such a fascinating listen. Check it out.

Haken – The Mountain

Maybe the prettiest metal album. It's like Dream Theater and LotR's score had a weird baby.

Car Seat Headrest – Teens of Denial

A brutally honest indie rock album about drugs, depression, and finding online friends. If you like Pixises, check this shit out.

Amon Amarth – Twilight of the Thunder Gods

This album will kick your arse.

Arcade Fire – The Suburbs

This is a beautiful indie tribute to the 80's.

Milo – Milo Takes Baths

This is my favourite Ep of Milo's and kills 2 birds with one stone, since I love Baths album. Also this album is free. Grab it.

Be'lakor – Stone's Reach

Another amazing Melo-death album. From Aus this time!

Traces – Wildfire

Not a fair choice given that I know these guys, and that my brother has worked with them a few times. Still I enjoy this.

Behemoth – The Satanist

You want scary? This is fucking scary.

Chevelle – Sci Fi Crimes

Like your metal with more major chords? This is the album for you.

Deftones – White Pony

Deftone's untouchable classic. Listen, NOW!

Childish Gambino – Beacause the Internet

Not a perfect album, and doesn't excuse him for leaving Community. Though this combined with Atlanta maybe helps.

Frank Ocean – Blonde

I don't do RNB. I love this album

Kanye West – College Dropout

Kanye sucks now. Listen when he was good.

Devin Townsend – Terria

The album that made me fall in love with Open C tuning. This is a softer metal album that is a must have for road trips/

Diablo Swing Orchestra – Sing Along Songs for the damned and delirious

Still my favourite. The weirdest, darkest album they've made remains as fun and infectious as always.

Dillenger Escape Plan – One of us is the killer

You want weird metal?

Between the Buried and Me – The Parallax Pt 2

You want weirder metal? Both bands feature Mike Patton!

Radiohead – In Rainbows

Fuck you, this is Radiohead's best. The perfect mix of past and present. I adore this album.

Enslaved – Axioma Ethica Odini

Definitely the best of their prog material

Opeth – Ghost Reveries

It's unfortunate Opeth hasn't released an album since this one, because it's fucking flawless. There is an album I like more, but it doesn't quite hit the 2000s mark...

Queens of the Stone Age - ...Like Clockwork

How did they fuck their newest up when their previous effort was this good?

Gojira – The Way of all Flesh

Meshuggah with more melody

Meshuggah – Obzen

My fav album of their's came out in 1998 unfortunately. A heavier Gojira

Ihsahn – Angl

Most critics dislike this album. It's not as progressive. It's more riff based, and it's not as personal as the later albums. Fuck this is a fun release though.

Katatonia – The Great Cold Distance

Dark, Gloomy, depressing, and awesome. Even better than when they were a death/doom metal band. If you like dark gothic rock, check this out.

Kendrick Lamar – To Pimp a Butterfly

Best rap album of maybe ever. If you haven't heard of this what are you doing with your life?

My Chemical Romance – The Black Parade

A great album overlooked because teenage girls like it. If you like Queen or The Misfits and haven't heard this, you need to. Now!

Nine Inch Nails– Year Zero.

Again, an unpopular pick. But I love the smooth beats and concept albums are something Trent does incredibly well.

Noname – Telefone

Unfortunately there aren't many amazing female rappers. Noname is one of them, and this is one hell of a debut

Steven Wilson – Hand Cannot Erase

I like pretty prog okay?!

Run the Jewels – RTJ 2

You want bangers? This is a fucking party album and a half.

Smashing Pumpkins – Oceania

Pretty rock. Need I say more?

Soen – Tellurian

If Opeth and Tool had a baby.

SOAD – Mesmerize

You know these guys. They're still awesome. Fuck you.

Weezer – White Album

WEEZER'S BACK!

Witherscape – The Inheritence

Like Opeth with more spunk

Casualties of Cool

Devin Townsend does Country

Blackalicious – Blazing Arrow

One of the most technically amazing rap albums ever

Del the Funky Homosapien – Both Sides of the Mind

Del has one of the best voices and flows in the game.

Madvillain – Madvilliany

You don't know this album? Fuck you.

El-P – I'll sleep when you're dead

Amazing

Killer Mike – R.A.P. Music

This guy needs to be mayor of Atlanta.

Cunninlynguists – Strange Journey Volume 3

Just some awesome rapping.

Apple Music Calls the Townsend album Blues, you call it Country, I call it roots, potato potahto. I like it. Kind of Robert Plant, Alison Krauss (ish)

The Black Parade is the album that forced us stuck up sticky beaks to realize that MCR knew what they were doing and stop laughing at their fans. OK maybe I went too far on that last sentence. :)

That's just it.At some point your ears open to stuff you would never have given a second listen to and you realize it has merit. You have a good ear Blake. I hear is in (most) of the stuff you post. and I'm an elitist bastard so you better take that as a compliment. LOL

I hate when music is ruined by peoples' images of a fanbase. It's why I really fucking hated Stone Sour being compared with Nickelback. They both have some generic rock songs for sure, but Stone Sour is capable of so much more.

I honestly think peoples' thoughts about fans of certain music keeps them away more than the actual music itself. MCR is another example, because even if someone likes MCR and thinks it's catchy, all they think in their heads is "emo kids."

You did a whole album?

I'd like to hear more of Amon Amarth. I love Behemoth and Queens of the Stone Age.

I was going to kick your ass if I didn't see the Suburbs on this list.

I haven't heard of a large portion of these artists.

I loved every Kanye album up to 808s. I still buy his albums other than Pablo because its not in a physical form. I haven't listened to Doom in awhile, I should go back and listen to his stuff but I did check out the Doom/Sade mashup mixtape. I dug it. I didn't get into Run the Jewels until I checked out the third album (the blue cover). I like them.
