Hey folks, guess what today, Friday, Sept. 15 is? It’s my birthday! Yay! Just for fun, let’s do what I do every year and you can give me pretend birthday presents in the comments section, please. It’s the thought that counts…literally. Plus the attention is nice and it’s neat to see what you come up with. And even though it’s my birthday, I’ve got some presents for you! More game reviews and things I’ve recently posted at GamerDad.com! Yeah, just what you always wanted, right? Right?!? Anyway, please click on the links and read as many as you can and maybe even post a ‘like’ or a comment or two. I’d appreciate it, thanks!
My latest amiibo acquisitions include the three new Inkling boy, girl, and squid figures from Splatoon 2, and the new Pikmin figure from Hey! Pikmin. I have to say that I’m disappointed with the amiibo support in Splatoon 2, as compared to in the first game. In the first game, the amiibo would unlock new game modes for single player, and that’s how you’d unlock all those arcade mini-games and outfits. Well in this game they just unlock outfits but you have to battle a lot to get them, or you can just take a picture in the game with them. Luckily the amiibo support in Hey! Pikmin is much better. You can level up your amiibo figure to give you more Pikmin to use in the game, and lots of other figures are compatible, too, and give you neat stuff as well. Mario series amiibo, some Splatoon amiibo, and even Animal Crossing ones will work! And the Hey! Pikmin game itself is pretty good. I beat it recently. I don’t know why so many other reviewers panned it. I liked it a lot.
A few months ago I found a Mario shower curtain in a store, so my family redecorated our front bathroom with a Mario motif. So I took pictures and just now got around to posting them. Too bad Kirby’s not popular enough to warrant bathroom supplies. If you could decorate your bathroom like any video game, what would you choose? Let me know in the comments section.
Meshi Quest: Five Star Kitchen (iPad)
This is a free-to-play kitchen cooking game published by Square Enix. It reminds me of a lot of other time management games like Diner Dash and such. But for a free-to-play game, it’s of a very high quality. So if you enjoy playing those types of games on your mobile device, I recommended looking into this one.
It’s just a standard minigolf game. But those can be fun every now and then. You can create your own holes and courses in this one, which is cool. It was also made by the same folks who do the Zen Pinball/Pinball FX tables.
Adventure Time Run: The Ooo Expedition (iPad)
Lots of characters have hopped on the Temple Run bandwagon, from Lara Croft to Brave. Now it’s Adventure Time’s turn. Is that cartoon even still on TV? I think I’ve reviewed more Adventure Time games than any other cartoon license. In fact, since I don’t really watch the cartoon much, my knowledge of the show and characters mostly comes from only the games!
In this game you play as a slime blob that has been swallowed by a giant worm, and now you must escape digestive juices and escape in this 2-D platformer. It reminds me a lot of Super Meat Boy. I don’t really like those kinds of games that are stupid hard for challenging’s sake, but this one did hold my interest more than what I thought it would. And it has a pretty rockin’ chiptune soundtrack.
Graceful Explosion Machine (PS4)
Gameplay-wise it reminds me a lot of Defender. Just a very arcade-y 2-D shooter. The colorful explosions make it hard to see enemies and their projectiles, though.
I’ve never played a game in the ‘visual novel’ genre before, unless you count Phoenix Wright, which I consider to be more of a point-and-click adventure kind of game. But anyway, when Aksys sent me the code to review this one, I decided to give the genre a try. It was a bit too serious and heavy handed for me, though. Guess I’ll just stick with Phoenix Wright.
Reader Review: Zero Escape: Zero Time Dilemma (PS4)
Aksys sent me a code for this game, too, but I had no interest in it and no prior experience with the series. So I let one of my brothers review it. So you’d better read it since my brother wrote it!
And finally is this pretty standard 2-D platformer for mobile devices. It’s not very creative and ran rather choppy on my iPad. But it’s certainly improved over the first game, that’s for sure. So I guess that’s good.
And that’s all for now! Thanks for reading and commenting on my reviews! And don’t forget to give me a pretend birthday present in the comments section! And if you have any good blog ideas, let me know, too, because I’m running low right now. Later! --Cary
Thanks. You know, as a kid, when the first Metroid game came out and Samus being a woman wasn't common knowledge, I thought she was a robot like Mega Man. They both have arm cannons, use energy tanks, and even exploded in the same way.
I did get the new Metroid game and the two new Metroid amiibo today as well. Hoping to spend some quality time with Samus here in a bit.
Thanks. Sounds like that beer commercial the Super Bowl had a few years back. I bet that would make a great theme park attraction. Actually, did you know that a long time ago, Six Flags Over Texas' kiddie area wasn't always Looney Tunes Land. For a couple of years, it was called Pac-Man Land and was Pac-Man themed. Well, sort of. The Ferris Wheel had Pac-Man on it and there was a tube maze, but that's about all I remember, aside from a few other things.
Thanks for reading! Are those Kirby beanie baby plushes? I only have one Kirby plush. When you said bean bags I thought about a big Kirby bean bag chair. Wouldn't that be weird? My favorite piece of Kriby merchandise I have is a Kirby kickball. NIntendo gave them out to the press when they released Kirby Tilt N Tumble. That was back in my Dallas Morning News days.
